First off, the chances she will ever read any of these messages is incredibly slim. Doesn't make it a good idea to berate someone for having depression but that's not what was being done here... Secondly, this is the internet and the world of fame after all so if someone opens up about these sorts of things there will be plenty of discussion about it either positive or negative. If she were that afraid of being raked over the coals about this she wouldn't have shared it. But she's not. Wear yourself and it is the inevitable.
It's not about berating someone for depression, it's about completely unnecessarily making a person reduced to something they are/have/do.

This is the… black/depressed/autistic/gay/blonde/ethnic/native/female/swearing/quiet… kid.

These are classic things done to belittle and dismiss a person; especially done to anyone not fitting the "norm" of being a white middle aged straight guy.

As much as I'm not a fan myself she is absolutely one of our most successful artists; and that isn't just limited to some small target group of hers. And the introduction he chose to use was to refer to her not as that but as a kid, as depressed, and her speaking in a way that should be scorned.

All that while recognising her as a "kid", as someone young. That's ducking disgusting.

It is amazing that we are getting a documentary for a 17 year old kid and yet somehow we dont have a documentary for some incredible people that walk in this world and who have dedicated their lives to way more interesting and serious causes

So stop complaining and make one.

Facts

1) She curses a lot (including music)

1) How would you know this, given how "not invested" you are in her?
2) Would you like to back up this "fact"? Because she actually curses very little in her music.

I wasn't dismissive. I simply stated fact. If you don't like facts, that is your problem.

I didn't disparage her about depression or make light of it in any way. Save your chiding for someone who did the things you accused me of.
If you think she curses a lot you haven’t listened to most music in this century hun.

I wasn't dismissive of her depression. She openly talks about it in the documentary and has talked about it a lot elsewhere, as well as doing commercials.

I did nothing wrong and I refuse to take your guilt trip ride because you may have taken my comments personal.

I am not explaining myself anymore about this. I am done.
stop making excuses and admit you’re wrong?

Really though, are you guys trying to be funny? She’s been on countless magazine covers and she won multiple Grammys. If you haven’t heard of her fine, but don’t insult her. She’s clearly proven she’s of worth.
“Proven her worth” is a strange statement in a world where much of the music produced is down to a “science” specifically to sell.

I personally don’t find her music noteworthy. Winning Grammys simply means the science ofa method of producing catchy hooks works too well for many.

The lyrics are mundane and trite. The beat is the same thing used in countless other music, so it must be her voice that’s selling... except she mumbles through most of what I have heard.

Yes, she is popular and sells a lot. That’s indeed what record companies love. None of that means much to me, it’s the junk food of music.

My goodness what is wrong with some of you people. If her music and this documentary are not your cup of tea then by all means don’t listen or watch.

Is it really worth your time to make a comment professing your displeasure or lack of knowledge of her as if any of us care what you think? It’s music/art and to each their own. It’s as if it’s a personal affront to you somehow. Please do us all a favor and use your energy/time in a more positive fashion. Yeesh, no place on the internet is safe from needless negativity it seems.
Message boards are here to share and discuss. If you dislike that someone doesn’t enjoy it and comments either you should a) get used to it or b) don’t take their comment personally. The internet isn’t a safe place for posting “good vibes” only, it never has been. I’m not sure why you would expect that now.

Out of curiosity, what music excites you?

I've listened to a lot over the years and my tastes have changed quite a bit as well.

I'm not sure how to "classify" what I listen to but some of the artists are:

Gregory Alan Isakov
Mandolin Orange
Andrew Marlin (of Mandolin Orange, a side group that is instrumental only)
The Milk Carton Kids
Avett Brothers

There are many other artists and genres I enjoy listening to, I just don't like the junk food of the music world. Every genre has it, it isn't just reserved for pop. It's music that will die off in a couple of years and be replaced by the next "thing". It's music that won't survive long because outside of being catchy there isn't much substance to it. If you honestly think Billie Eilish will be here in 5 to 10 years I think you overestimate the value she provides to the music industry as a whole. She's here and popular right now because they can cash out easily, the second that changes she will disappear as will her music.

See, it’s this sort of perspective on music that really irks me. Of course, feel free to dislike any and everything. That’s what art is. Many different things shape taste. But to dismiss someone entirely, especially when you’re completely unaware of their process (which I’m assuming, apologies if you’ve delved further) is kinda gross to me. Her album took years to make, with just her and her brother sitting in his bedroom. All completely written and produced by the both of them exclusively, with her at the age of 16 and 17.

You could assess someone purely on the radio hits, but reducing someone to the music business (which unfortunately is what it is - even the people you listed) is just limiting yourself.

I looked up some lyrics from the artists you listed. When The Party’s Over (an acapella song she released, very “un-Billboard”), Listen Before I Go, I Love You from Billie are all lyrically comparable. I’d recommend.

Again, not trying to convince you to like her. Art is art and it’s not for everyone. But to just dismiss things because they’re popular is such a waste to me.

She's 19. Why do you keep calling her a "kid"?

I believe she an amazing, honest, accurate and conscientious woman. She has maturity rare for her age group. Her music has touched this 63 year old woman because I have the same issues, I have and still am harassed by people who refuse to grow up and seek wisdom instead of just being a judge, jury and lynch meister.

Yikes that’s a lot of hate for a young woman who puts out music that inspires/helps millions of people across many age groups to cope with sadness, depression, and other mental health problems. What have you put out exactly that has had such an impact if I may ask, and once you’re done with that answer why don’t you also tell us how much money you’ve been able to generate for your family

Seeing as how I'm Gen X and not a boomer, "the kids" will have to just say "OK, X'er" to me haha. Anyway, there's a *lot* of current pop that I'd rather my kids didn't listen to, but unlike the typical music-by-the-pound dreck with a pretty face in front of it, Eilish has some actual original talent. Her music isn't exactly my cuppa, but it's good. I'm totally fine with my kids enjoying it. Of course, I don't tell them that... This doco is obviously for her fans who I'm sure will just love it.

There must be some big influence inside of Apple about Billie. That homepage video is the most obnoxious, probably the only obnoxious homepage Apple has ever made. apple.com to take a look. Should give a seizure warning too.
