Maybe they're planning on opening up the iAd framework allowing smaller scale ad-buying and independent design agencies more creative control?

New Mac Pros 100%

iPad 3!!!! WOOHOO! It totally makes sense now.

miiiight be an iPod event? since the last one saw hmm ... no updates to the iPod line :p Who knows, most likely a trade focused event as suggested. But that's not exciting!

Apple TV3 and / or Apple TV Apps?

New Mac Pro's probably will be my guess

Am I the only one who sees this sentence in the original post?
The event is reported to be for a "media-related announcement" and not for the iPad 3 or an Apple television set. As the report notes, the New York location makes it likely that the announcement has something to do with advertising or publishing.

iTunes?

iTunes 11? iTunes usually comes 3 months after the release of the iPhone and the new iOS

iPod Touch -- 2/2008
iPhone ---- 2/2008
Macbook Pro ----2/2011
Macbook Air ---- 1/2008
Mac Pro ----- 1/2008
iPod Shuffle -- 2/2008

Looks like some "new" products have a history of coming out Jan/Feb.

The Apple Nuke, smaller and more targeted against corporate parrots?

Perhaps announcing a new permanent head of the Retail division? US flagship retail stores all in NYC (5th ave, Grand Central) and I have some info re: Ron Johnson's replacement (though I can't disclose)

I think Apple will only provide a press release for something like that.

Maybe it's something that has to do with investors.

While we are guessing, my bets are on new TV content and subscriptions through iTunes.

One more thing, apps for Apple TV. They will want apps adapted for this format in the marketplace well ahead of a potential Apple TV, to ensure its success. Using the existing ATV2 is the perfect way to guarantee a healthy selection upon its launch.

iPad Pro replaces Mac Pro.

12" super glossy screen, 1GB memory, 128GB storage, Nvidia 8600GT and a Superdrive.
$2,500.

That sounds great except for the super glossy screen.

And the Superdrive.

I haaaaaate glossy screens. Except on small devices like iPhones.

iBooks and Newsstand on the desktop, perhaps?

Or possibly iTunes offering lossless downloads?

Do people here posses the skill of reading and more importantly comprehension??

This^^^

It begins to make sense why many posts are as incomprehensible as they are. Apparently people don't feel the need to bother to read the OP.

Many of the comments on this thread are beyond unbelievable - iPads, Mac Pro, Powerbook whatever...

It says, in clear black and white, that the event will have nothing to do with the above - but rather advertising and/or publishing.

Amazing...

TV apps would be great. TV content, please pretty please.

Even knowing that the iPad 3 is due out this year-ish...I'd get an iPad 2 instantly if they announced that, only with an iPad, non-cable subscribers could use a Showtime or HBO app, with full VoD.

And.

And, I'd pay the regular rates you do on cable bills for those channels (usually around 10-12 for HBO, with others added in for a few more).

That said...if it's anything at all, it'll probably be something smaller in scale, like official Siri integration with available add-ons (like voices), or additional magazines/books/music that wasn't available prior.

in that regard, I'm hoping for Mad Magazine, textbooks (as many as possible, including new releases), and the earlier works of Black Sabbath (the 70s releases).

Also, I'd love for them to finally announce that OS 10.8 will be "iOS for home computers". There's no reason not to, really.

Media could mean anything....and this is a rumour site....it could be iPad or iPod or mac or apple tv or anything media related...which all the above are? Let's wait and see.
