Media could mean anything....and this is a rumour site....it could be iPad or iPod or mac or apple tv or anything media related...which all the above are? Let's wait and see.

True... but why New York?

Hardware announcements are typically done on Apple's own turf.

I'd be shocked if there were any major hardware announcements at this event...

Not happening but I wish they'd announce an NFL Sunday Ticket deal with Direct TV. I'd buy a current gen Apple TV just for that this fall.

Apperantly not :-(

"According to sources close to the situation, Apple is planning an important — but not large-scale — event to be held in New York at the end of this month that will focus on a media-related announcement."

How is a new magazine "important" ?

How is newsstand update "important" ?

What do they mean by "important" ?

Maybe they'll make Newsstand able to be put in a folder like other default Apple apps...

But seriously its probably iAd, iBooks, Newsstand, something related.

This is why I'm thinking maybe New York because of Wall St. and the rumor a while ago of a possibility of Apple giving out dividends to their stock holders. Here's hoping! :D
Or as has been previously said, something to do with iTunes subscriptions and Apple TV?
But I'm thinking more the dividend.

I hoping for movies to be added to iCloud. Free redownloads and streaming (Apple TV) of iTunes movie purchases would be sweet.

Near $100 billion in cash. Tim Cook. Dividends. Happy shareholders. Shareholders stop crying about no dividends.

Going with movies in the cloud finally

The only media related event I could see of any "importance" that doesn't deal with a product launch is some new deal with iAds.

Will likely be inconsequential to the general public, but for those who make a living with iAds in apps, or companies looking to reach technical, young, and affluent markets it could be a game changer.

Could it be school textbooks?

That was supposedly one of the areas Steve wanted to see 'fixed' (according to the biography) - and it's vaguely media related.

An announcement to team with at least (2) publishing houses to provide e-textbooks for K-5 at least. Formation of a dedicated "Education Book Store."

Also deals for schools with preloaded configurations of iPad for classroom use on a far larger scale using an education version of the iPad. Remember the "e-Mac?" (still have one in the basement) Well, welcome E-Pad.

Not during his term. Don't like your APPL? Sell. :)
