I just don't see a >5" iPhone coming.

That is just so not Apple.

At least, it would be so contradictory on one thing, how would they explain the deep-minded one hand usage.

Would you really prefer that :apple: not make a larger phone and leave that entire market segment to Samsung?

Also people have various hand sizes and visual acuity. People will be able to choose the right phone for them.

Apple in the past has made iPods in many form factors. They should have done this for iPhones much sooner.

I wonder why they haven't been any iPod touch leaks in new sizes.

Unless... They will use the new form factor for the iPod Touch and the iPhone...

I hope they release both sizes at the same time, Or they will notice sales won't be as great, as folks who want the larger 5.5'' will wait to purchase.

Surely Apple would realize this, and say they'll both be launched at the same time on the announcement day!

I'll wait for 5.5"

They really need to make sure these two sizes go out at the same time, it won't look good if they don't. But at the same time, I want the 5.5" so I'd rather it was finished to perfection. :D

I still don't expect to see the 5.5 inch iPhone until 2015.

Yep, people still think it'll be released alongside the 4.7-inch, it's not happening.

2015 is the year for the 5.5-inch.

Lol, BGR claims beta 6 is coming August 15th? First of all, they hardly ever release betas on a Friday. Second, Mark Gurman's sources are almost always accurate, so I'm going to trust that the last beta is coming August 4th.

Oh no, not BGR and their "sources". I did in fact read that (not sure why I keep going back to their website, it's full or you-know-what) and you're right. The next beta will probably drop on the 4th of August (Monday) but the beta after that will not drop on the 15th of August, it'll probably be the 18th which is a Monday too.

----------

For the 100th time, the 5.5 inch model isn't coming until Fall 2015.

You can keep saying it but it won't get into their heads bless 'em.

Either that or they'll go straight from beta 5 to the GM. There's not a snowball's chance in hell they're releasing a beta on the 15th.

Who knows... I remember many were convinced there would never be a Verizon iPhone. CDMA technology just couldn't be put into it cheaply and Apple would never spend resources for a US only model. Many were convinced even a few days before it launched that Apple would only make one once Verizon was 100% LTE. Well Verizon still isn't 100% LTE and a CDMA radio is still required for 3G and voice.

It makes sense that Apple would want to space out the launches, but at this point I'd never say never.

This thought just struck me: we're all sitting here at the end of July just assuming that at least one model of iPhone 6 will contain a 4.7" screen….. Wouldn't it be a real kick in the balls if neither the rumored 5.5" OR 4.7" iPhone 6 is announced during the September keynote, and Apple has only refreshed the iPhone 6 as the same old 4" phone??? (I'm sure more than a few people here would be happy, but man, Apple's stock would take a MAJOR hit. Maybe that's why they recently split their stock—based on everyone's expectations?)

I honestly doubt that would happen, but who knows? :(

Yeah, fair enough, it could go straight from beta 5 to GM but a beta 6 isn't out of the question 2-3 weeks after beta 5.

Time will tell.

Come on Apple. Milk the 4.7" for 2 years (or 4 years - if you change the color to gold), THEN put out the 5.5".

You know you want to!

I am leaning more and more towards the 5.5". Its gonna be a real dilemma if they don't announce both phones in September.
They could announce the 5.5" in October along with the new iPads and iWatch

Information that came out during the Samsung trial made it very clear that Apple themselves acknowledged that their market wants bigger-screened phones. The trial was not a rumor, hype, or doubled-down redirection. Bigger-screened iPhones are coming.

I really hope you're right.

However, until we see the blurry Foxcon/Pegatron manufacturing production photos as in year's past, I'll believe it...

Ever since the rumored iPhone 6 spec was leaked last March, all we've seen are poorly machined or digitally printed mockups, mockups and more mockups, and each one a little different than the previous (mostly the interior back case parts are always a little differenent.)

Maybe "doubling down" is working to some degree? I don't recall seeing anything about the massive overhaul of the Mac Pro until it was pretty much on the launch pad. That was a major design shift that pretty much snuck right up on us all.

The iPhone is too popular to be able to pull that kind of sneak off. But we have seen parts that are probably actually parts and we will hopefully see some mockups & renderings soon  that will probably be close to the real deal.

I predict blurry photos in mid-August and a likely "whole" one exposed in late August (with Apple ordering the pictures or video taken down to confirm it).

To this "no 5.5" parts means no 5.5" phone" belief, I'll again point back to the Mac Pro sneak and point out that there seems to be a LOT of belief that an iWatch is going to launch at about the same time and we haven't seen even an Apple-branded buckle yet. I suspect both phones will debut in September as usual. If I'm going to doubt an accumulating rumor, it's that iWatch one.

Apple manages it's PR well. If there was no 5.5" phone coming, I'm confident they would have already put that one to bed directly or via a "nope" from Dalrymple by this point. It's too close to have so many pretty much visualizing themselves with a 5.5"… too many- like me- thinking 5.5" or bust. It's been a lasting rumor for many months now. That's too long to let it get it's legs.

If I want a 5.5" display I just hold the phone closer. I still can't see the pixels and it can get as large as I want and it still will fit in my front pocket when I sit down.

Apple likes to make money right? So how is making something consumers are demanding not Apple-like?

Tablet sales are going down because people are relying on phones and as phones get larger, the need/want for a tablet is less desirable.

I work for an online retailer and our tablet views continue to decline while phones are starting to dominate.

It makes perfect sense to me.

Not everyone needs to like, want or have the larger version of the iPhone but I just don't understand why some people are so against it.

My iPad rMini has cut down my iPhone usage considerably... I wonder how this larger iPhone will fit in..

Honestly, if the 5.5 is really "real" and Apple does not announce it with the 4.7" version, than don't bother holding off for it because you will wait at least a year.

I suspect that Apple will release it along with the iPhone 6S next year and call it iPhone 6A. I highly doubt Apple will screw it's customers over after 2-3 months and release a 5.5" iPhone without at least announcing them simultaneously together.

yes they're going to make everyone buy the 4.7" and then the 5.5" a few months later :)

Ugh, it would be so tough to see the 4.7'' iPhone come out and then have to wait for the mythical 5.5''. If there is a 5.5'' I sure hope they at least announce it at the same time.

For those that don't get it:

iPhone 4 = 3.5-inch display
iPhone 5 = 4-inch display
iPhone 6 = 4.7-inch display
iPhone 7 = 5.5-inch display, launching September 25th, 2015 or September 23rd, 2016
