Headline :
"Apple Planning Thicker Bezel-Free 10.9" iPad Pro With 9.7" Footprint and No Home Button"

A top bezel will remain in order to provide space for the front-facing FaceTime camera, but the bottom bezel will be reduced, according to supply chain sources cited.

How is this, by any stretch of the imagination "bezel-free?"

I call bull on this rumor. A top bezel without an accompanying bottom bezel would ruin front symmetry. Not happing.

Maintaining their stance that there will continue to be a 7.9" iPad in the line-up, eh? I'm still very skeptical. I can see them selling the iPad mini 4 for a couple more years before finally killing the 7.9" iPad form factor altogether. But continuing it when it is clearly on the decline (and is only still sold because it is the cheapest iPad [something they could easily remedy by positioning an older 9.7" iPad into the same pricepoint]) seems not like Apple. Hell, they just culled the AirPort team! One would imagine that they're going to start thinning out the other products that don't mesh with their current trajectory (and a 7.9" iPad that's too small to have a comfortable keyboard attachment and/or be comfortable for lots of drawing doesn't seem to fit with their trajectory of positioning the iPad as a computer replacement).

Problem with the ipad pro is not the form factor - It is the OS. This is like changing the font on a layout, after the underlying grid fell apart because the creative writer didnt write to fit. It wont fix anything.

Can someone explain to me what makes an iPad "Pro"?

I'm honestly curious on the facts here, because none of the rumored changes (nor the current specs) seem to.

Faster processor, and functions with the Pencil. Pro models have palm rejection, which lets lets you rest your hand on the screen while using the pencil. The screen has sensors that actively interact with the pencil, which decreases latency, increases precision over a passive stylus, and allows things like tilt and pressure to alter input. The intent is that it function as a pro device for creatives.

I almost purchased the 9.7 Pro this last week. My Air 2 will do until this coming March. This will likely be my new iPad. Looking forward to this.

Another giant iPad for people to buy and stop using after a few days of owning it because they can't figure it out what to use it for... Apple is running of ideas and creativitie nowadays... Sad.

I personally like the size of my iPad Mini. It is small enough to carry around easily and provides enough workspace for basic word processing (I own a detachable keyboard for it), e-reading, and other software I use. I would be highly disappointed (and buy an Android tablet) if Apple were to kill this form factor.

I've got one of those and it is very powerful. I don't expect it to be obsolete really ever since reading and surfing web is part of its key aspects and it will always be able to do that. I guess audio control AI features is the thing that will obsolete it though eventually.
websites will continue to be made worse and worse. Your statement used to hold true for an iPad 2. But now it struggles with the web. Eventually the Air 2 will barely handle loading Mac Rumors, just like thanks to recent ad garbage, my Air 1 has a hard time with this site.

I think marketing comes up with the names, not engineering.

So it's effectively what the Air 3 would have been, but they called it Pro so they had an excuse to bump the price.
At some point they probably also wanted to get rid of the 'Air' moniker. It makes sense if you contrast it with something else but after a while there is little reason why the 9.7" iPad should have an 'Air' label.

This whole lineup is starting to sound so strange.

You're absolutely right, just as strange as the new MacBook Pros, no iMac updates, and most likely the sunsetting of the Mac Pro. Nobody at Apple is "minding the store" anymore. This reminds me of the out-of-control Apple that sunk after Jobs left the first time. No direction, too many product variations, no focus.

Well I will be interested to get this, especially if it comes without a home button. Less likely for repairs in the later years arising from a faulty mechanical home button...

In my experience, the software not being updated or the processor being to slow always happens before a faulty button anyway.

Did you make that up? Ive never had a home button fail and ive had more than a dozen apple products so far.

Most of my iPad buttons have failed. I am currently using my iPad mini 3 with a "virtual home button" setup because the home button doesn't work. It's definitely a weak point on all apple iOS devices.

By all means, go ahead and tell us what an iPad "should" be.

*waits for the typical "make it a notebook" response*

I agree. The "Air" label has to go. Not only on the ipads, but on the Macbook Airs as well! I mean seriously. The macbook airs are thicker than the MacBooks now! Makes zero sense to call them Macbook Airs! Apple really has to dial in and focus on streamlining their offerings. Very scattered. Very un-Apple like.
