So you've already held both cases in your hand and compared the feel of the materials?

If the iPhone case feels nicer than a $10 case, it would be worth the $30 difference to some people.

Hey, I’m not knocking personal preference or telling anyone what they should or shouldn’t do. I couldn’t care less. Just giving my personal opinion. I live here in NYC, and there are vendors right outside every Apple store selling cases for iphones & ipads. It’s not just the price of Apple cases i find ridiculous, it’s the principle. Every ipad & iphone case I’ve bought has been 3rd party and indestinguisable from the Apple versions.

I love all the "have you felt it?!" yet posts as if Apple has found some new form of plastic and magically it won't let in dust or turn yellow. Or, just like everything else they do, they've made a product and aimed it towards people with an addiction and seek to exploit that addiction.

They are a business and sell products to make money. Shocking, I know.

Spigen is a reputable brand. They currently have 3 clear cases for the XR that range from 12 to 15 dollars.

Yeah, and when their main goal is to make as much money as humanly possible without offering a bump in quality, they're going to get called out for it. And people will call them out (and corporation lovers will defend it). Shocking, I know.

hmm.. apple leather and silicone cases are 100x better than any aftermarket case i've used.

while i prefer leather cases for grip, this clear one isn't a bad idea to show off the colours.

Just to play devils advocate, i beg to differ. I have had only one case made from Apple. It came free with the first ipad mini i bought. It is the only case i’ve owned that has torn, and where the fabric has ripped off the case. No big deal. But to say that Apple cases are built so much better than all 3rd party cases is bupkus. My 9.7” ipad case cost less than $10 from Amazon and is as new looking now as the day i bought it 4 yrs ago.

I get it. Design a phone that if you drop it you're pretty much breaking glass. Sell "protection" case for a markup that I can't even fathom is real at $40.

Maybe if you've made a phone that needs a case to prevent a $500 repair something is wrong? Eh Johnny?

Lol, if spigen felt they could charge $40 for a case they would. Apple has charged $40 and $50 for cases as long as I can remember. Why is this any different...? You’d swear they have upped the price with how many are acting.

What argument are you even making here? "If they could screw you, they would? So go ahead and buy from someone you know is screwing you instead?" Seriously, what is your point? People are rightfully pointing out that you don't have to overpay like a fool for these accessories and still get a high quality case.

Having felt the difference between Apple Watch sport bands, and third-party bands, I prefer the quality of the Apple bands.

That doesn't mean I don't also buy the third-party bands as well.

I think it's too easy and cliché to dismiss the Apple clear case without having tried it out.

There is a bigger "tell" here. A clear case serves no purpose beyond being "a case". It doesn't offer any particular inherent personalization. But what it DOES say is that Apple has finally decided to forgo their nonsensical "holdout" from their position that a case isn't necessary. Every survey shows that the gross majority of users put cases on their iPhones. And the drop tests prove that the iPhone isn't especially hardened by design (especially when compared to the competition). So a case IS NECESSARY. And THAT is why we got the camera "bulge". Apple has remained completely tight lipped in the face of a lot of criticism about the bulge, with a few exceptions trying to paint it as some "inspired" design idea. But that's obviously bull. The "bulge" exists only to push the lens out past the edge of the case that caused interference with the sensor's angle of vision (which first started to be an issue with cases on the iPhone 4, into the 5 design). Basically, Apple engineered the iPhone 6 (and later models) with a bulging lens protuberance because they KNEW users were going to put the device in a case; it had nothing to do with available depth in the shell for lens/sensor thickness.

(And they obviously "know" this because they know the iPhone design just can't be engineered to overcome its inherent fragility due to the materials demanded by the Design team. Glass, aluminum, and stainless steel are simply not shock *absorbing* materials, certainly not like TPU polymer. In short, Apple is selling a fragile phone using a PR message of "beauty" while obviously cognizant that the beauty needs to be covered to be long-term usable. IMHO, true design and engineering "beauty" is when the beauty is kept intact AFTER the fragility problem is mitigated. Could anyone imagine the laughter at Samsonite for selling "beautiful" luggage that required being placed in a Pelican case to be put on a plane?)

I will buy this case by the dozens and place them in a 2000 dollar Balenciaga equal to the 1 dollar IKEA blue bag.

The argument I am making is why is this an issue? Many brands charge $40 for their cases (as I pointed out). Apple has always charged $40 for their cases. This isn’t something new. Don’t buy it if you don’t like the price.

Each for a euro or two, not 40

Or dollars. Or whatever the currency
The ones that are $3-5 are just trash usually. They break or the finish wears off. The decent 3rd party ones are at least $15. The Apple one I got was $30.

Seems expensive for a simple clear case IMO. I get that iPhones are expensive and you want to protect it with a decent case, but I can't imagine what could possibly be better in a simple case like this for 40$ over one thats 10$.

I bought a xiaomi one for £1.99 delivered from China. It was a genuine xiaomi case, superb quality and fit perfect. For £1.99 the seller and xiaomi are making a profit.

Apple have seriously overpriced this. £10, £20 tops.

This is hilarious, but not as hilarious as the people who justify that cost when there's cases of similar or better quality at Amazon for 10 bucks.

This will literally be made right next to Brand X on a Chinese assembly line. Same materials, same design, $30 mark up.

Glass, aluminum, and SS are the materials used in basically all smart phones these days. Plastic feels cheap. I don't know what point you're making. Nearly all phones are put in cases, this isn't an Apple specific thing.

Then just buy a knockoff case on Amazon...

I guess he shouldn't voice his opinion on a forum full of posts voicing opinions then? lets just shut the website down, no need to voice your opinion people.... if you don't like something then just get something else.
