Not true. I bet the good quality 3rd party covers are made in the same factories that make the Apple ones. I stated previously in this thread that i only had one apple cover. It came free with my first ipad mini. All the rest of my covers for my iphones & ipads have been 3rd party ones for $10 or less. Guess what? The ONLY cover that hasn’t survived is my ipad mini cover from Apple. The fabric has torn and peeled off on the corners. Just saying. Hey, I love Apple. And i gladly pay a premiuim for their electronics. But i do draw the line at covers & cases. It’s not about the money as much as its about the principle. Again, i am the biggest Apple fanboy there is, but come on...their cases aren’t leagues better than 3rd party cases like their devices & software are from the competition. They just aren’t.
So "not true" based on your experience?

OK...

Again, in general, Apple will have a certain standard for everything, including cases. Using a CHEAP aftermarket case will give mixed results. There are good case companies that make good products, but there is a sea of garbage too.

I wish my Pitaka fit my Xs, and worked with my PowerWave stand charger at work. :(
I wasn’t worn over by pitaka. My husband has the thin case and it felt too thin vs my Apple leather and no edge to protect screen. My daughter has the more protective case which has great protection, but too bulky for my taste.

Given the numbers of clueless folks who walk into carrier stores and buy random cases for insane full retail prices (3-4x what the same case is priced at on Amazon), Apple will have no problem selling truckloads of these to low-information consumers.

......... I've been on a quest to get a clear case that doesn't suck or isn't too big since the 5S... and here this comes, for the XR only? Boo.

Take a look at what Spigen has to offer. They have several quality clear case options.

So they gotta be making atleast $39.75 profit on each of these cases right?

How else are their going to pay for that new campus and reach $2 Trillion market valuation, certainly not by selling a peak demand product.

How about make the iPhone more durable in the first place - so no case is needed?

If it does not yellow, I would say price might be worth it. Wonder if they will warrant it against yellowing, If they do warrant it against yellowing maybe we will be able to replace it for free if that happens. But since it is Apple, I will not get my hopes up.

Hard enough justifying $50 on the leather case. But $40 for clear plastic that doesn't even have separated buttons?? Wow. That said, Apple will of course sell plenty and rake in the moneys.

Marketing double speak by Apple. Toughest glass ever (if it was kept and used in a protective bubble).

It’s concerning that people do not know the value of money (fiat money). Spend it like it was going out of style there is more where that came from.

I have a 3rd party case and it has not yellowed. It’s the oils from ones skin that yellows the case. This is worth no more than $8-10 that is with the Apple tax included.

These same people then complain why there have no money or wealth for things that do matter. Twisted priorities.

This is hilarious, but not as hilarious as the people who justify that cost when there's cases of similar or better quality at Amazon for 10 bucks.

And even more hilarious when you know the markup on the Amazon case you purchased.

LOL...the gouging never stops.

My 7+ sunflower yellow case looks quite banged up a year later. The last Apple iPhone case I’ll buy.

Back to clear, 3rd party cases.

A friend purchased an Apple leather case, 6months later it ripped and was replaced with a 3rd party case for much less and durable.

There is a markup on all products, would you work for Amazon for free. Fair market value comes to mind.

My case from Amazon was $5 and I got it free, I don’t mind paying a fair % for great CS.

Hey, I am not saying there isn’t a sea of garbage out there. There is. But there are also an abundant overflow of comparable alternatives out there as well. And for much less $$. Again, just stating my personal experience. The ONLY cover I have had that I needed to replace... was an Apple cover. All the 3rd party covers I have bought, I still use. Just saying. If you wanna buy a $40 iPhone case or a $50 or $129 iPad case from Apple...go for it. Enjoy. I just don’t see the point. My Apple fandom stops at their actual products. What I cover them with isn’t bound by the same fandom.

Lol, if spigen felt they could charge $40 for a case they would. Apple has charged $40 and $50 for cases as long as I can remember. Why is this any different...? You’d swear they have upped the price with how many are acting.
Doesn’t help that the price was put in the article headline (as if it was something unusual).

I guess he shouldn't voice his opinion on a forum full of posts voicing opinions then? lets just shut the website down, no need to voice your opinion people.... if you don't like something then just get something else.
Yes. It’s not like there aren’t hundreds of 3rd party cases to choose from. Heck I’m rocking one right now that has a place for credit cards/drivers license on the back. I bought it at Walmart. $20. Held up really well so far.

Let's be honest...this case is a rip off. Love Apple all you want, but this is a ridiculous price for a case that will do little to protect your phone.

Exactly. My fandom for Apple stops at their actual products. What I cover them with is not bound by the same fandom. It’s not about money, it’s the principal of the thing. Paying 4x as much for a piece of plastic crosses the line for me. I just find it absurd. If anyone else wants to throw their money away...go for it.

If literally every other Apple phone/tablet case is anything to go by, it will be overpriced and at best as-good as cases that cost upwards of 90 percent less.

Do you know of a less expensive but equal quality case to Apple's leather ones?

Yo, Apple. By charging $40 for a piece of plastic you are not making it look premium. By putting your logo on a piece of plastic you are making you look cheap!

I thought this kind of things must have been in a Steve Jobs' "How to Apple 101" guideline that he left in the company.

The best thing to happen to modern Apple was the death of Steve Jobs. If it was up to him we'd still have tiny screens on the iPhone.
