Even some of the best Ultra Slim Case cost less than $3 BOM. And they aren't that much better than the one which cost less than $1 BOM.

I would only spend $40 to buy it If the case doesn't get a slight yellow after 2 years of usage, remain Crystal Clear over the 2 years period, scratch resistant, less than 0.2mm thin.

There are no reason why this should be a $40 pcs. The case industry are already extremely high gross margin business. Unless the one Apple sell are of exceptional quality, $40 will be the worst Apple product pricing ever.

Basically, this better be BLOODY DAMN Good for them to charge $40.

It’s more ridiculous for people to spend up to $1500 on a phone and then balk at a $40 case.

Similar to people who buy a German car but complain about the $2-3k navigation.

I would disagree with that argument. I don’t think it’s as much an issue of price as it is the principle of the matter. I think that many people debate the prices of the iPhone itself and how it’s getting out of hand. But are willing to buy it, cause it’s arguably the best device of it’s kind. A case is a different story. It’s not proprietary at all. And it is totally understandable for people to balk at paying $40 for a piece of plastic that can easily be duplicated for less than $10. THAT is the point. And I think most people making that point could easily afford the $40. Again, they aren’t complaining, cause they could easily buy an equally good case for a fraction of that. It’s the principle of the thing. But Hey, if you wanna pay $40 for an Apple case...enjoy.

Not true for the Silicone cases, every damn one cracks
That’s the one I have and no cracks, so not every one.

The leather ones are fine, the silicone ones fall to bits after a few months. Starts at the open end where the corners wear then snap off. Leather fine, silicone overpriced rubbish. Can see them doing well with th clear cases vs spigen etc who cover the bottom and protect against smashing when dropped vs the open end of Apples cases.
I guess I’m lucky because mine is still perfect.

Exactly. $1000 phone, and then complaining about a $40 case? Boo hoo!

If that is the logic being used, then why are millionair/billionaires eating fast food. Why are their not draped in gold?

Functionality of a case is to protect, functionality of a mini-computer far exceedes a single use of a case.

Just because one has money does not mean their do not have to be wise in spending it.

+1.

The design of the first few iphones were made for the human hand. Even the 4 series which were glass sandwiches didnt need a case due to the squared edges that makes it not too easy to slip out. Then the 6 came and is shaped like a slippery bar soap.

The 4 series design with its rim sticking out provides some protection to the glass components. The moment the glass and rim were flush, that is when problems arose. Bring slippery was another hit to the design along with being curved.

The Apple Watch sport bands are more expensive than the knockoff sport bands on Amazon, but the quality of the materials is much nicer.

It's up to the buyer to decide if the quality of the material justifies the price difference.

I'd have to feel the iPhone case to compare it to the feel of some of the cheap clear cases I've seen.

In the end, I won't be buying this because I have an iPhone X and don't use a case. The phone feels so much nicer that way.
Yes. The Amazon sport watch cases are trash and most of the really cheap phone cases on Amazon are trash.

The Apple products are more expensive, sure, but at least they’ll last

Apple Planning to Launch New Clear Case for iPhone XR, Priced Around Hella Too Much Money.

FTFY.

Apple cases are usually pretty good quality imo. I always buy just the one on launch day and it usually holds up until I get rid of the phone.

Love clear cases but 3rd party manufactures usually don’t last as long. Hopefully they release a clear variant for the X/XS.

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother looking at the forums. Lately it has just become a place for people to complain, attack others, and complain some more.
It’s a first party case. They have always been $35-$50. Don’t like it? Don’t buy it. Full stop.

Looks really nice with the clear case. I doubt I'll buy an XR for myself, but my wife may want one. Her phone is her main connection to everything.

I wasn’t worn over by pitaka. My husband has the thin case and it felt too thin vs my Apple leather and no edge to protect screen. My daughter has the more protective case which has great protection, but too bulky for my taste.

Right, the thin Pitaka definitely isn't one you'd sport if you're prone to dropping your phone, but I'd take it over a skin any day of the week. The main draw was magnetic mounting that still supported wireless charging.

I like my Apple silicon case for day to day use so I can relate with regards to "some" protection (though I don't see the draw to covering anything with a dead animal), but I still haven't pulled the trigger on anything more protective for my Xs. I guess I'm just hoping Spigen will release something with some color to it, rather than the grays and silvers and blacks they continue to put out.

I don't know what the folks at Apple have been smoking, but they've definitely been smoking something if they think $40 for a clear case is reasonable.

You can get that on eBay for $2 with shipping, or if you want higher quality go for a Spigen case which runs you half the price and that's already quite expensive.

If not wanting to spend more money for arbitrary things is considered wise for people, that’s fine, but complaining for something so trivial like a pricey case when one has already spent a relative large sum of money for the phone itself is hypocritical and unnecessary.

And fast food has benefits in convenience because it’s fast to consume for time conscious individuals. There is nothing gained in convenience in buying a $10 case on Amazon versus buying the $40 case from Apple.

This is kinda like the joke about the black box on airplanes. If its indestructible why not make the plane outta whatever it is made of.

If this case protects the phone so much better than what they're using, why don't they make the phone out of it? ;)

When has Apple ever priced their accessories to match 3rd parties? I’m sure Spigen and others are happy Apple doesn’t as that keeps them in business.

So don’t look at the forums! Or avoid the internet altogether, if you have problems with differing opinions. In the case of this case people don’t even complain, they make fun of Apple. Usually you want an Apple product at all costs, because it offers something you can’t get anywhere else. They are really good at making premium computers, but they haven’t invented an all new kind of clear plastic none of the big chemical companies has heard of. There is no benefit to this being a first party case.
