Kind regards,

Common sense.

Touch based doesn't necessary mean you will to look at it any more than your current apple remote. It might simply mean it supports touch gestures, and or pressing different part of the remote do different things without a physical button.

The thing is most tech users simply use Logitech Harmony remotes since it can control all devices. With this new apple remote it won't control all your other devices, and scenes, unless they add sensors and such like Harmony which is doubtful.

And the biggest complaint about the touchscreen harmony remotes is that you have to look at the remote to figure out what activity you're enabling. With an all button remote you can feel your way around the remote to find the button you want. You can't do this with a touchpad, unless they're using gestures with on television commands.

I'm still "suffering" with the original, 720p black box. The remote barely works at all, it's super laggy even when it does work, it will drop its (strong) WiFi connection from time to time, and it's been randomly rebooting itself. I'm more than ready.

Why use vlc when you can use Quicktime? Even if you have wmv files you can add Flip for mac to play those with Quicktime. Is this some kind of pirating need?

QuickTime is an awful player. Many times needed to convert files it's playing before you can even see what you opened. VLC just simply works. Your assumption that one has to pirate video files in order to work with a multitude of files that QuickTime can't natively handle without plugin support is absurd. Call me when QuickTime can play an .flv, avchd, MPEG, or any of the other formats professionals work with.

What's wrong with the Apple TV remote we got?
Requires line of site to work, for one thing. That's my biggest complaint but I also find the signal of the current remote weak (even with a new battery) and sometimes the 4-way ring controller gives me the wrong direction unless I'm being really careful. There's also a big lag between pressing the button and reaction on screen, especially with FFWD/RWD and trying to type on a character grid, but that could be more the ancient CPU and the software.

I actually don't mind the small, simple form factor, but it's got shortcomings.

I hope they stick with $80 price tag, they could even go up slightly again to $100, like they where. but nothing higher then that.

I sure the heck hope so this time. but as others have mentioned, I won't hold my breath after hearing about this time and time again only to be let down with nothing.

I heard that one before. blah blah blah new apple tv. blah blah blah. nope, just new iPhone, just apple watch, just apple music.
Man, I wish I could understand what you are saying. Those who desire to believe rumors shouldn't complain if they don't materialize.

Poor developers these days. They've got apps to write for watches, TVs, phones, tablets, desktops, convertibles, fridges, and whatever else you want to stick an LCD on. Pretty incredible.

Luckily there are literally millions of developers. They should spilt up and each take a category.

Apple seems committed to television, they have kept after it for quite some time. It's very interesting to witness the gap between how they hype it, and the rather slow and labored pace at which anything of significance actually happens. Sometimes it seems as though they keep it around just to avoid the criticism that might come their way if they silently killed it off.

Hate to say it but they could actually learn a thing from *GASP* Samsung (even if it looks like a mini trackpad clone) I have this remote for my tv and the trackpad like touch control works great.
