We probably won't have to look. The touch area is probably like the Remote app handles the current Apple TV. Just swipe up, down, left, right, and tap. No need to look because no specific control areas are on the touch surface. I just hope the remote will have a microphone so I can pick it up and say "Hey Siri, play The Daily Show!"

I'd be disappointed if it wasn't a significant upgrade in functionality from the current version. Siri integration is one. I'd also hope there's better app organization. The layout now is an absolute nightmare.

Need to see how this plays out....
are we talking about ala carte cable? And will it be more expensive?
Curious here too. Don't know if it'll be more expensive, but I doubt that in the end it'll be any cheaper, and besides we'll just be paying a different piper. Everything hinges on whether we'll be able to truly get the channels we want (and only the channels we want), without any bundling, as well as the various prices of these individual channels.

But the fact that the rumored Apple 'bundle' will consist of approx 25 channels at a cost of $30-$40 makes me think there will be some bundling, and we will be unable to precisely pick our own individual channel line-up.

Either way I will be in the market for the new :apple:TV.

I'll be happy if they just update the ugly UI.
Why can't they make the music and movie sections display as grid or cover flow?
Every other platform can display full cover art.
In Atv we get a list on the left hand side.
lame.

It its truly new it needs to have at minimum "space shifting" to other iOS devices. But what would make it really great is if it offered "time shifting" (via an optional USB drive) too. None of that is novel. Comcast and DirecTV already offer this service. But it's not available to my knowledge on a stand-alone, no monthly fee, device. Sling does time-shifting. Don't know if there is "free" time shifting anymore.

I can't think of another reason to upgrade either my Apple TV 3 unless a killer app develops. If Apple TV 4 is just a platform for Apple's own "non-cable" cable then I'll pass. But I'm hoping it going to compete with SlingBox.

The same way a smaller iphone from 2014 can have more storage than a larger one from 2007. The same way my wd passport drive can have more storage than a drive a bought 3 years ago and is 5 times as big

True. But this is a device that has to have a power cord and an HDMI cable attached to it - at some point, smallness becomes a liability.

I never got an Apple TV just because typing the names with that white thing was so annoying, such turn off. I hope they release a good remote control.

Although I'm excited for the new Apple TV, I don't like the idea of a touch based remote. The current remote is such a nice example of the Keep It Simple philosophy that made Apple famous, and that's getting more and more lost each day... :-(
Agreed. Having a touch remote seems like a problem, unless that touch remote can now also control all my other devices. I don't need more than one remote to control TV, stereo, plex unit, cable box and AppleTV. Please let me keep using a single Harmony remote.

I used an Apple TV for a couple of years then finally moved it to the basement TV and put an Amazon Fire on my TV in the living room. Amazon has their act together with voice commands and free streaming video for Prime members. I am hoping Apple comes out with something amazing enough to compel me to buy a new Apple TV but it is going to take more than adding Siri and a touch remote.

I like the current remote but touchpad and microphone for Siri input would make it better.
