They didn’t do a live demo. Apple is known for doing live demos. They couldn’t show it because it wasn’t ready. Other than that, we only have this article and previous statements from the usual leakers, I’m sure you’ll deny all of that.

Look, the evidence of the failure is the fact that the software hasn’t released. Why even defend it.

It's not a matter of defending anything. It's about Apple being responsible and only releasing a product that's very secure and meets expectations.

I understand you would probably wouldn't mind if Apple released AI software that has a few security issues and bugs, and is not quite ready. I have no problem at all waiting for when it's ready. The good news is there are other tech vendors that would better meet your needs.

I'd still like to better understand your previous statement: "They showed a video of features that the software team did not even have in concept." That's quite remarkable. Could you please post a link that speaks to Apple's system engineers and software team not even having a concept. Thanks.

It’s not relevant to any customers because we literally have no evidence that that is true.
We have some disgruntled employees saying that *they* never saw the features, but when you understand how Apple software development works, that means nothing. Almost none of their developers see fully finished things before they launch, because of the insane secrecy and security.
Even before the original iPhone launched, no one at AT&T had ever seen the phone. The majority of people working on its operating system, had never seen the phone.
In fact, we do have a report about it on all hands-on meeting with one of the Siri leads where he apparently demonstrates the features several times and says they have about an 80% accuracy rate.
So as an Apple customer, that’s why it’s not relevant to me. We have conflicting things coming from conflicting groups, all being filtered through the lens of newspapers and journalists that have their own agenda.
Half of apples employees are saying they never saw these features, the other half are saying it has an 80% accuracy rate and that it’s been in development this entire time, and anyone believing either of these groups completely is only getting half (or likely even less) of the story.
Okay, okay, you don’t believe the stories. I can understand. But where’s the smart Siri? What will average customers think when this gets released with iOS 19.1. They may not be aware. This may never happen again. Or it may point to a bigger cultural issue within Apple.

According to some recent articles, the release is expected to be postponed until 2026, but others suggest that a fall release is planned.
Those features planned for iOS 18 we may get in fall, maybe all maybe not and those planned for iOS 19 for fall will come later. And we can expect that they had number of new ways to integrate and employ AI. Not sure Apple can compete with big players in creating LLM but it needs good subsystem that will handle basic task itself and expert things that are beyong HW capabilities be solved in cloud or by big external LLM. And that was path Apple presented but have not delivered yet.
One interesting thing is if we would test AI assistants offline I guess Siri would shine.

Where did I say I’m okay with half baked software? Apple decided to show these features at WWDC 2024, which was too early.

You keep saying there are other brands as if it were some kind of new idea, but I’ve been considering other options for months already. My current devices run fine and run old software, when that stops working I’ll consider every option.

This is simply taken from another MacRumors article:

The report claims that the demo of Apple Intelligence's most impressive features at WWDC 2024, such as where Siri accesses a user's emails to find real-time flight data and provides a reminder about lunch plans using messages and plots a route in maps, was effectively fictitious. The demo apparently came as a surprise to members of the Siri team, who had never seen working versions of the capabilities.

I think "next year" could easily mean the next calendar year (2025) or 365 days from now.

If someone says "next week" do you start a timer for 168 hours? Or do you interpret as being the 7 days starting with the upcoming Monday?

This is literally an exercise in semantics. Trying to hold them legally accountable for vague phrasing seems silly.
This is how I read it, sorry if it’s wrong. Would definitely not spent the energy on a legal case, but some already have.

Your average customer does not know or care about the smarter Siri.
They also don’t have the slightest clue what refresh rate their phone is, how many megapixels the camera on the back has, or anything like that.
The commercial that everyone references barely explained what the feature even was.

Apple plans to release its delayed Apple Intelligence Siri features in the fall, according to a new report by The New York Times.

iOS-18-Siri-Personal-Context.jpg

In early March, Apple said that it was going to take longer than expected to roll out the more personalized ‌Siri‌ experience, and that these features would be rolled out "in the coming year." Subsequently, Reuters reported that the ‌Apple Intelligence‌ ‌Siri‌ features have been delayed until 2026.

However, NYT reports today that its sources within Apple are still confident of a fall release. From the report:

The ‌Siri‌ features in question were demonstrated at WWDC when introducing ‌iOS 18‌, and they were expected to come out in an update to ‌iOS 18‌. The functionality includes personal context, onscreen awareness, and improved app integration. Here's a quick summary:
Personal Context

Siri will be able to track emails, messages, files, photos, and more – learning from your interactions to help you stay organized and complete tasks.
  • Show me the files Sam sent me last week.
  • Find the email where Sam mentioned ice hockey.
  • Find the books Sam recommended to me.
  • Where's the recipe Sam sent me?
  • What's my passport number?
Onscreen Awareness

Siri will understand what's on your screen and act on it. For example, if someone texts you an address, you can ask Siri to add it to their contact card. Or, if you're viewing a photo, you can ask Siri to send it.

Deeper App Integration

Siri will handle more complex tasks across apps – things it currently can't do. Apple shared a few examples of what to expect:
  • Move files between apps.
  • Edit a photo and send it.
  • Get directions home and share the ETA with Sam.
  • Send the draft email to Sam.
Already, Siri has gained Type to Siri, a refreshed interface, ChatGPT integration, and improved natural language understanding.

Apple demonstrated many of the above missing Siri features in WWDC previews, and went on to advertise them on its website. It also promoted them in a since-pulled TV ad for iPhone 16 starring actor Bella Ramsey, as well as elsewhere. Apple has been sued at least three times over the delayed Siri features in California.

Every single feature they originally discussed better still be available on the 16 Pro.

1)I guess your point is sort of correct, except that the argument is that “ Steve Jobs would never allow delays like this, he would have fired the entire executive, software, and AI teams in pure anger”.
When the evidence is exactly the opposite.
2)Also, not everyone on the globe is talking about this, barely anyone is talking about this outside of technology websites. I have literally tried to have discussions with people who are less than informed about technology about Apple Intelligence, and I’m pretty much always met with a collective “huh? Personal context? What does that even mean?”
1)I never made any mention of Steve Jobs...you're thinking of someone(s) else on this forum.
2)I said everyone on globe *KNOWS* about this. It might be a stretch that I'm saying every single human but you get what I mean. The news that Apple isn't shipping AI has been around on all sorts of non-tech websites; It was headlined on CNN's website in March. It's all over Reddit. It's been in the NY Times and Bloomberg. So maybe a lot of consumers aren't *talking* about it, but any of these consumers who remotely care about Apple AI should know about this delay from these news sources as well as simply not having it in Fall 2024 when it was advertised as being available.

Coming this fall, along with Air Power and the Apple Car.

Apple keeps making promises they just don't keep. Siri is really a joke at this point. Apple "intelligence" has been a bust (so far).

I can't help but think that from my vantage point, Apple is floundering.

They could learn through the media about some huge delay even if they have no clue about the specifics of the feature. Might sound even worse as a headline than as a detailed report actually.

We shall see. Right now everyone (rightfully so) doesn’t trust Apple ONE BIT with getting Siri better at all let alone getting this new LLM Siri right. WWDC this year is going to be a make or break for Apple Intelligence as a whole. They better deliver.

Would be a nice surprise.
Don’t want to be too pessimistic but I fear that is being used as advertisement during the iPhone 17 campaign and we might won’t see the features until 2026 as part of an iOS 19.x release.
Apple better not withhold anything software related from iPhones 16 and 15 Pros. They made promises and didn’t deliver. They lied, they cheated and they stole people’s money in the process.

Spot-on. Most people here reflexively assume Apple's 2+ Billion active customers are all techies and therefore must be just like them, deep into the latest tech (including AI).

In reality, they're just regular non-tech people who happen to own an Apple mobile phone. That would include teachers, police officers, garbage collectors, auto salespeople, musicians, librarians, real estate agents, carpenters, drywall installers, auto mechanics, bank tellers, veterinarians, insurance agents, cooks, firefighters, plumbers, secretaries, painters, retail clerks, woodworkers, CPAs, waiters, lawyers, judges, doctors, nurses, pilots, steelworkers, auto assemblers, school counselors, gardeners, architects, baby sitters, politicians, professional baseball and football players, and on and on and on.

And therefore... all of the above people must be really steamed right now because Apple doesn't have AI fully implemented yet (with those people not knowing what it is, how it can be used, etc).

Life goes on. The human race will survive, with planet Earth rotating into the Sun's rays tomorrow morning.
