I understand the reasoning behind the smaller discounts through Apple and have no problem with it but I think during the holidays it could be a boost for them to offer a big one day sale on a single item. Maybe it could be something like an Apple TV for $50 during Black Friday. Or 25% off refurb items. This might put a ton of Apple products in homes that may not have any.

Apple is participating in Black Friday - but just marginally. It's so Apple can SAY that they participated, but without actually undermining their high-priced brand.

This is a HUGE deal to consumers. If a consumer can get something at a really cheap price - why buy during the rest of the year? Name some other 'high-priced brand' that is offering deep discounts? There are none.

Also, if you notice, Best Buy will offer a 60" TV for like $500, but it's only for the first 2 people in line. Everyone else pays full price. Apple, on the other hand, is giving the small discount to EVERYONE, not just the first 2 in line.

You might have a point there...

Black Friday is a retailer event. Apple is primarily a manufacturer.

Are you kidding? Did you know that Apple stores are the most profitable stores per square foot on the planet? The Apple stores deliver enormous profits to Apple.

Yea... they are big in retail.

i love the "defend apple at all costs" people.

As opposed to the people who think "anyone who disagrees with an anti-Apple comment is just defending Apple at all costs"?

apple can do better on discounting their products for a black friday event.

Sure, I expect they could discount their products a bunch more than they do.

But... why would they?

Though, you did include classy and Walmart in the same sentence, which should never be done. :)

Umm.... Tu quoque? :D

During Apple BF Presentation: At Apple, we believe in offering the greatest products at great prices. That is why we bring to you today, our 3 year old iPad 2 with a revolutionary price discount of $31 dollars... magical.

It helps when most if your items for sale are over $100 with most if the store dedicated to those over $500. I have a feeling that there are more people in a Walmart at any given time than an Apple store. For them all Black Friday would do is make for longer lines, frustrated customers, trouble keeping stock (if you've never worked retail, you have no idea how much this hurts business and pisses off customers - I've had people leave $200 shopping carts behind because we were out of a particular kind of butter that was on a good coupon), potentially bad publicity (see: tramplings, potential damage to store property) and probably increased theft (I have no figures).

For Apple (a manufacturer) a modest increase in business would be extremely profitable and cutting it closer to margin would reduce profits and (probably) end up pissing off too many customers to be worth it.

Walmart (a retailer) on the other hand, doesn't seem to mind since Walmart isn't trying to push itself as a brand (i.e., a bad experience in a Walmart store doesn't decrease sales in Walmart coats sold at other stores - Walmart doesn't sell Walmart goods a other stores).

Edit: Wow, what are the odds that 4 "Walmart"s would happen to line up all in a neat row as the first word in every line (on iPhone Safari)

Custom MacBook Pro discount?

Does the $101 discount apply to custom MacBook Pro's?

I'm looking for a 15" MBP with a 2.6 gHz processor, 16 GB ram, and a 512 GB drive.

Or should I buy from MacMall instead?

No, because this offer expired approximately one year ago.

how about some sales on accessories?? then maybe I I'd buy that iPad Air case

From my experience, retailers like Best Buy and Amazon would probably be your best bet here. Alternatively, you could wait until after Christmas and check eBay for a used case (brand new but from a person that didn't like it) but that would require waiting until after Christmas.

sham

what savings? just advertisement. what can you get for the amount in savings now a days? if you can't get groceries to sustain and cook for yourself for a whole week on the amount from the savings, and all you can get are coffees every day with a donut, savings? sham. buy buy buy, that is the spirit of the season, nice. then after the new year, debt, debt, debt. the best savings? save your money. but as for me i'm def getting a few iPad minis and iPhones, just 3 .

i think $100 off a macbook air is a pretty good deal!

...why? After a few months they're almost always marked down that much on Amazon. Even Best Buy was selling them at that sort of discount.

The only reason the discounts are tiny right now is because they were released a short time ago.

That is a complete false equivalence.

Best Buy offers massive discounts on a handful of items, and everything else is on moderate discounts.

The discounts Apple is offering is the equivalent to moderate discounts, the stuff that "EVERYONE" will get if they go to the store or shop online.

If you want to make a comparison, it would be like if Apple was advertising Macbooks at 50% off.... but only to the first 2 people in line.

But you said Apple is amazing compared to best buy and I'm disagreeing so I can't wait to be told how wrong I am.

The only thing that statistic confirms is that the apple stores are too small inside and way too crowded. Something you could figure out within 5 seconds of walking into one.

I usually shop at Amazon (free 2-day, $3.99 one-day), and used to shop at a place called zipzoomfly (free 3-day, I think), both of which offered free shipping on all (or like enough all) their products. When I go to buy on other sites I'm still shocked at having to pay $5-20 for shipping (especially something small that you could stick in an envelope, not that anyone does) which can easily be a deal-breaker for me, especially when the discount will be comparable when shipping costs are taken into account and especially when places like Amazon are very good about getting it here on [Thursday] when I order it on [Monday], which is better than [some time between Wednesday and next week whether I'm there or not and will the neighbors steal my package again because they left it on the front door of an apartment building? Or should I just go to the Apple store and be done with it?].

I think I got distracted while writing that.

look into the post office for deliveries. if your a po box holder they now have a service to allow you to get packages from ups or fedex. when you order something, instead of giving your pobox address, you give the post office street address. ups/fedex delivers your package to the manager at the loading dock and then they put a notice in your box

I hope they have a nice discount for the iPad air. main reason why I'm considering buying from apple store is for the free engraving, which i believe you can't get at other retailers

----------

Anyone know if BH photo will have a BF deals. if i wasn't interested in engraving this is where I would be buying from

Apple, you have to learn how to do holiday sales from the retail giants like Walmart or BestBuy.

Stop these lowball offers... it really looks cheap!

I guess they don't have to offer anything at all. So once again it's up to you, the customer, to decide if you want to take advantage of their discounted prices...

i think $100 off a macbook air is a pretty good deal!

Agreed.

Any real discount off anything is a good deal.

Unlike some other product's, which retailers can falsely manipulate the prices to make it look like you are getting discounts, Apple products [fixed prices in general] differ in that you can be 99% sure they are real discounts [end of line excluded..].

Shame they do not do this over in the UK.

I want to buy a mac from the education store so is it $100 off the already discounted education pricing? If so, that is pretty cool.

But you said Apple is amazing compared to best buy and I'm disagreeing so I can't wait to be told how wrong I am.

Wrong-on-Internet.jpg

Hahaha.. I didn't say Apple was amazing compared to Best Buy. I simply said what Apple is doing is DIFFERENT. Apple does not limit the sales to the first 'X' number of people, Best Buy does. If Best Buy runs out of product, you can't buy the sale anymore. There are no rain checks. BestBuy.com has different prices than the physical stores. Apple, on the other hand, allows you all these discounts at Apple.com if the store sells out. Best Buy has deeper discounts if you're one of those in line on Black Friday, but you have to go out and stand in line and deal with all that crap.

Why do you think I'm saying Apple is better than Best Buy? I'm not. They're just different. I prefer not to wait in line, and if you do, then Best Buy is better for YOU.
