Apple has posted a teaser page on its Australian online Apple Store for a "one-day Apple shopping event" on Friday, November 29th.

Black Friday, which is a major shopping day in the United States and several other countries, marks the kickoff of the holiday shopping season. On Black Friday, retailers often offer significant discounts on popular products to lure customers into their stores.

Apple's international online and retail stores also participate in these sales, though Apple's discounts tend to be very modest. Last year's discounts for Apple's core products were as follows (in USD):

- iPad with Retina Display - $41 Off
- iPad 2 - $31 Off
- iPod touch - $ 31 Off
- iPod touch 4th Generation - $21 Off
- iPod nano - $11 Off
- MacBook Pro with Retina - $101 Off
- MacBook Pro - $101 Off
- MacBook Air - $101 Off

For absolute savings, customers will have better luck with third- party merchants that tend to offer steeper discounts on Apple products on Black Friday. We have also gathered all of the best deals on Apple products and accessories into a comprehensive roundup.

Dud. Apple will never learn . These prices are just educational discounts. Poor Apple.

Right. Because when I think of Walmart, I think "classy". And when I think of Apple, I think "cheap."

When I think Walmart I think saving some extra money. When Think Apple I think products should be sold a lot less. Just my opinion. Flame away!

Erm, why? They don't *need* to offer any offers. iPad is selling well, so are the MacBooks. Why do they need to offer 'huge' discounts.

Black Friday is a retailer event. Apple is primarily a manufacturer.

Where's the rule that - because American's came up with 'Black Friday' - somehow everyone has to suddenly offer deep discounts? Surreal.

They don't need to offer steeper discounts. Black Friday was started by American retailers; Americans bought into the idea big, so retailers kept doing it. Now people expect big discounts if they go through the madness of Walmart at 3 in the morning (now actually on Thanksgiving). If Walmart has good deals, Target and Best Buy don't need to have them, but to compete they do. Apple doesn't have this competition, especially considering that a lot of people won't wait in line on Thanksgiving, period.

My point: Yes, Apple doesn't need to offer steep discounts to compete, but if leaving Thanksgiving early means saving a few hundred bucks, there are people who will do it. And the shopping spurred by these discounts does increase Apple's sales beyond what it would be otherwise.

Seems like Apple should take a hint from Target and Walmart. Why not offer Apple gift cards? That way it would look like they're offering a $200 discount, when really they're just having you shop more.

Cuz then they would make less profit to report per quarterly. LOL

i used to get excited to see what apple could afford in term of discount but after 2-3 years in a row..the pattern was too obvious. sick of you apple.com

Hahaha.. I didn't say Apple was amazing compared to Best Buy. I simply said what Apple is doing is DIFFERENT. Apple does not limit the sales to the first 'X' number of people, Best Buy does. If Best Buy runs out of product, you can't buy the sale anymore. There are no rain checks.

I already explained this but apparently you ignored it. The items that Best Buy limits are drastically discounted, 50%+. These are called "loss leaders". Best Buy can afford to sell a small amount to entice people into the store, at which point they will buy enough to make up for that loss.

Apple is not discounting anything by such an amount, which is why it has no constraints on items. It will sell every single item at profit and only offer marginal discounts. Discounts which are matched by stores like Best Buy and Amazon for most of the year. But since it is Apple selling it, it's suddenly an amazing deal.

If Apple was selling something at a large discount, say... 30% (which would be unbelievably massive for Apple), they would also put a limit on the number of items available. They aren't limiting them because the discount is tiny.

BestBuy.com has different prices than the physical stores.

This is flat out not correct. Bestbuy.com and the store are now the same prices, other than errors. BB.com has MORE items, but not different prices.

Furthermore, not only is Best Buy offering its black friday deals online, they're also available online for this entire week to its reward zone members.
Apple, on the other hand, allows you all these discounts at Apple.com if the store sells out.
And again, the deals are not comparable. The deals at Best Buy that "sell out" are discounted significantly more than any deal Apple will ever run. Apple will never offer a new item at 50% off.

Best Buy has deeper discounts if you're one of those in line on Black Friday, but you have to go out and stand in line and deal with all that crap.

This is true. There will be (I believe) 6 in-store only deals.
Why do you think I'm saying Apple is better than Best Buy? I'm not. They're just different. I prefer not to wait in line, and if you do, then Best Buy is better for YOU.

Because that's what you said.

You are saying Apple is better because it won't sell out but it has nothing to sell out of.

I didn't say I want to wait in line, and I didn't say Best Buy was better for me, I said you're committing a logical fallacy so you can make your favorite brand look better.

Apple is 'better' here because they are offering an inferior deal which you seem to think is equivalent to a better deal.

----------

Does apple offer its retail staff a proper living wage?

It's probably better than Best Buy and Walmart whatever it is. I'm fairly certain they aren't forcing their employees to work on Thanksgiving.

if they make the discount too good, people will just order stuff to sell it for more.

and big discounts are also bad for the lasting value of their products.

What?

Oh, oh like those over priced sealed macbook pros on ebay or what ever - for over 3000, ya they are making a killing, no one is buying them, so even if you get a system on major discount, and you wanna "re-sell" it, what? Are you going to mark it up 1000% and expect you'll make some kind of profit, and pat yourself on the back for being so clever?

The people do not deserve to go into debt for over priced landfiller gadgets over the "holiday shopping craze" thank you so very much.

This red crispy shiny fruity company can afford to give 60% discounts to anyone, don't justify why they don't give many discounts, do they pay your mortgage or something?

HAHAHAH!

that $101 off on the macbook pro, apply with the EDU so, on the base 15 inch model:

$1,899 (EDU PRICE) - $101 = TOTAL $1798 :D

works???

You are saying Apple is better because it won't sell out but it has nothing to sell out of.

Sigh.

You just like to argue, don't you?

One of the good points of the Apple deals is that they won't sell out and everyone gets the same deal. That doesn't mean Apple is better. One of the good points of the Best Buy deals is that they're marked off more. That doesn't mean Best Buy is better.

You ARE allowed to say good and bad things about each. You don't have to be a complete fanboy of Apple or Best Buy.

For those who have EPP discounts via Apple, these discounts probably aren't going to make those folks salivate.

Right. Because when I think of Walmart, I think "classy". And when I think of Apple, I think "cheap."

Because spending more money and walking into a store with the :apple: on it makes you "classy?"

:apple::apple::apple: < There, I'm classy now! :rolleyes:

Well said. Of course we should thank Apple for any discount, and appreciate it, but we all know we're getting the best products when we buy from Apple. So the price is almost irrelevant. Obviously if cost is important to you, there are many options in the marketplace for compromised products at a lower price.

I love my getting my daily lol from reading your comments. So much nonsense you don't even know it.

i love the "defend apple at all costs" people.

yes we will all continue to buy apple but apple can do better on discounting their products for a black friday event.

41 dollars off an iPad? how random...

I find it funny. :D Always get a good laugh.

Yeah getting a few bucks discount is soooooooooo "Classy"!

I hate when people say this but "well said."

When I think Walmart I think saving some extra money. When Think Apple I think products should be sold a lot less. Just my opinion. Flame away!

People who think they need to buy an Apple product at an Apple Store to be "classy" are insecure and use the :apple: as a status symbol. If that weren't true, you would have no problem buying an iPhone or whatever at WalMart.

Flaming coming in 3...2...1...go! :D

Exactly the reason why their products are not selling as much in the apple store. Third party always have a better deals. I love apple products but they should have better deals.

im betting similar discounts this year. if you want deals on apple products the only place to go is their refurb section or an outside retailer for new.

are their black friday discounts normally just on the base model or all configurations?
I'm interested in the ipad mini retina 16gb with cellular

God I hate people like you.
