And you know this how? If you think all he does is design "pretty cases" you obviously don't understand much yourself. ;)

It's amazing how some people feel personally insulted by another person's opinion of a corporate executive that they have never met and really know little about.

I apologize for insulting your BFF "Jony" there Rogifan!! He's just the most wonderful person ever!!!! :D

It still stinks of copying.

Well, considering Apple used the "thinner than a pencil" idea when they introduced the iPad Mini last year, I wouldn't call it copying. Sure, they didn't create an ad with it, but they evoked the idea of it long before the Samsung ad came out.

And really, it just brings up very similar vibes to the MacBook Air commercial, I don't see a hint of inspiration from the Samsung ad whereas it is very familiar to the MBA ad. Regardless, Samsungs ad is goofy and corny, Apples ad is beautiful and filled with emotion. It really doesn't matter who the hell came up with "thinner than a pencil."

Are you always this mature, or just when you post on Macrumors. Where was he insulted? He was simply pointing out how devoid of insight your "opinion" was. Sounds to me like he was also giving an "opinion."

"Who wants a stylus ? You have to get them and put them away and you loose them. Yuck !"
- Steve Jobs, iPhone Keynote 2007.

MessagePad hardware had a slot on top to hold the stylus. Very handy. Love Steve but I miss the stylus. It was an enhancement to write cursive on the pad and be able to convert to text then print if a hard copy was needed.

I really miss that.

Whoever does their commercial is at the top of the game.

I'm praying the Air has 2 gigs of ram, I so want to upgrade from my 3.

I like how they perfectly balanced that pencil on its edge to eke out that extra width.

Stayed like that for the whole commercial!

Well, we wouldn't want to "loose" them......

Jobs said a lot of stuff that he changed his mind about (People don't read, video doesn't work on iPods, Tablets are going to fail). A good stylus would improve input on many apps...

Why must hero worship be the part of every conversation? So what if Jobs didn't like a stylus. He was wrong more than once.

Thank you! I'm not sure why so many people feel the need to choose either multitouch or the stylus. Like many other things in life, the mentality should be both/and, not either/or.

if I have to watch one more Jony Ive Scientology style head tilt brainwash video I'm going to have to throw up

"Acting boastful is for those who pretend they're great - arrogance is for those who are..." (source: me)

Johny Ive has "styled" a half-dozen of the most iconic consumer/prosumer products that the world has ever known. He works quietly and with amazing discretion - popping his head up only when the Marketing Dept. tells him they need him to say (read) a few words about his latest masterpiece (which I'm sure he then edits).

Even if his nod was contrived ('not saying it was), there are few in the world who deserve an exclusion more. And for the record; nowhere could I find that Johny Ive is a Scientologist. And even if he was Scientologist, (Atheist, Christian, Jew, Hindu Buddhist, etc.), who gives a rip?

You should call the cops. I hear they have a 70-80% chance of catching those guys that hold your face to your computer with a gun against your head while they press play and make you watch.

Not in the UK - they'll just give you a crime number and not bother doing anything.

Take a chill pill man. Ives mannerisms in those ads are contrived and ridiculous. I like to watch ads about gear that I might want from many a manufacturer. Some do it well and others don't.
Apples ads, (with Ive in), go from very good to ordinary and I agree it looks like he's on something.

The comment was fair.
They have repeatedly discussed how his design area has NO barricades, doors, etc. between the engineering area & how what makes Apple different is how closely the design team work with the engineers.... surely they must gain more understanding (of each other's jobs) than in most (if not all) other companies??
Your jab was COMPLETELY unfounded. You have no basis of fact... if you do, by all means- present it. If not, at the very least don't ridicule somebody calling you on making stuff up & pretend like it's blind hero worship.

Hey if you have first hand knowledge that all this guy does at Apple is design "pretty cases" then tell us what you know and I'll shut up. :)

i wish apple would release an iPad PRO now we have the iPad air, something that is basically a Mac Book air, but with a touch screen, removable keyboard and the ability to run FULL osX as well as iOS apps.. that would be a killer system imo

I thought I had already seen mentions of a mysterious 12-ish inch tablet in the works or a new thinner macbook air. Reminds me of "These are not three separate devices; this is one device, and we're calling it..." all over again. My uneducated guess is that both will merge one day when Apple deems it doable and necessary.

----------

Also, but somewhat unrelated - In the Ive video he says: "With its...size and weight, this is the ..., lightest iPad we've ever built." If memory serves, he didn't say the lightest iPad Air (it is the first, after all), but rather just 'iPad'. But isn't the iPad mini lighter? Am I nitpicking, or is this a seeming contradiction to the technical specs?

I think it will only happen if either the iPad or Macbook Air lines cease being profitable as a stand alone product, as it is apple would rather you bought both, not one or the other

I prefer it when they just use music and images without any voiceover but the "pencil" ad is very clever and hits home. I can't wait to get an iPad Air next week. Might even take some time off and que up this time given how difficult it's been getting an iPhone 5s.

Pencil. It's been done before.

That's what samsung was thinking with the iPad, but it didn't stop them from making a copy.:D

Can't you buy a 3rd party stylus?
