They make it sound like video calling were a revolutionary idea they came up with, when in reality they are about 5 years behind and you cant even call people who don't have an iphone, never mind the fact that i need to be on connected to wifi...

OK I get what you're saying but why haven't we seen the other phone guys talk up this feature? Why haven't the other guys with their free Android OS(what a cost savings) advertise this?
Apple is new to this game and they are learning and implementing these features into their new found business:iphone.
So I don't care if this feature has been around since Eve screwed us all up.
This is Apple FIRST STEP.

No it isn't, "ACE". Jailbreak your phone and you can video chat over ATT. Not a carrier issue at all. It's an Apple issue. And is it a carrier issue that limits this stupid thing to iPhone to iPhone only? Take off the fanboy hat.
Ok, so you jailbroke your iphone for this. So am I suppose to care?

The build quality alone of the iPhone 4 is already a bullet point for me to buy it.

The 3GS I have is fantastic. The iPad I have is awesome. The iPhone has a better resolution screen and also the iPad's A4 processor, it's a win-win for everyone.

Show me a device that even compares to the iPhone 4's build quality? THERE IS NOTHING ON THE MARKET THAT has the same build quality like the iPhone 4. Front and rear glass that is so durable and virtually scratchproof.

I was so tempted to jump to Sprint after AT&T announced their June 7 raping plans. But I held off to see the new confirmed iPhone 4 because seriously, if the EVO 4G was so good, I'd be over on Sprint right now. I have seen the EVO 4G at the sprint store, played with it for about 5 minutes - and I can confirm without a doubt, I would not even give up my 3GS for that phone.

Sure the screen is gigantic - but too large - because it's just bulky and really not that great. It's plastic fantastic and I don't care about the specs because my 3GS "feels" so much more fluid and that EVO 4G has too many strange options that just feels like it's trying too hard to show off what it can do - and clearly, it doesn't do anything great; the iPhone really does everything great.

I don't think I can hang with android - it's seriously not that great and with the new iPhone 4, I will stick with AT&T but at least I will enjoy my expensive _ass phone.
Yeah, the geeks over on engadget are praising the HTC EVO on Sprint. Meh! Child please! That junk doesn't have the fit and finish as the iphone and never will have it. HTC needs to introduce at least 10 phones just to match 1 iphone. LOL!

I actually lost my iphone and stumbled onto this site to find information before I purchased a new one because I heard the new iphone was coming out soon. Here are a few of my thoughts as an average Joe iphone user.

As far as video chat on a cell phone to be honest I never knew of any phone that could actually do it. I've heard of it, but whenever I went into the store to buy a phone no sales person ever mentioned it. On top of that I wouldn't even know who I would video chat with because I've never met someone with a video chat phone. Besides this is something that I would only want to do with close family and friends. And none of my close family and friends have ever had something like that. But my fiance and I both have (well had until I get a new one) iphones. If we both get new iphones I can see us using the video chat. Not a lot but definitely when we've be away for a while. Like another poser wrote I really wouldn't want to use it all the time so we can see exactly what each other are doing all the time because that seems to invade too much on our privacy. So for example if I was away on business I wouldn't use it during the day while making regular calls but when I got back to the hotel at the end of the day it would be nice to be able to see each other. If other family members had iphones I could see using video chat with them as well more for special moments like birthdays, graduations, etc. Like when you call a family member that lives out of state. Now while I can agree this could easily be done on the computer, that adds another dimension to it because you need to be sitting at the computer. If the device is already in your hand while talking why not use it?

As far as peoples complaints with the marketing I find this completely funny. I've never seen someone get mad at a company for trying to sell the benefits of their product. I guess people don't like the fact that Apple is taking credit for things that already existed but really, who cares. I'm 30 years old and I occasionally still play my XBOX 360. This reminds me of when I found a website that had XBOX information and people were having all these arguments between PS3 and XBOX. It seemed pretty lame and sounded like the majority of people arguing were mainly doing so because they didn't have a girlfriend.

You spend every waking moment fantasizing about cell phones and know when and where video chat was introduced. Good for you. The rest of us are too busy living our lives and simply want to walk into a store and buy a cool reliable phone. I bet 99% of Americans like me couldn't name either one cell phone that had usable video chat or a person they know who owns it.

The "geeks" on Engadget (speaking of the commenters, not the writers and editors), praise all non-iPhone devices. With their reaction to each and every new Android phone release (every 2 days?) you'd think HTC and Moto and Palm would be selling phones in the billions.

The truth, unfortunately, is likely far less impressive. These folks pretend to be rushing out to buy each new non-iPhone, and many "can't wait to dump their iPhones." Uh huh, right. Like we don't all know exactly what the Engadget peanut gallery thinks about Apple and its products. Try posting a comment favorable to the iPhone on the next Engadget smartphone story and see what happens. Your downranking will be swift and severe. Hilarious. Yet the iPhone on launch day alone will outsell the EVO's cumulative sales. Wait until Engadget posts the numbers. And then grab some popcorn and enjoy the wailing and tooth-gnashing.

"If Jesus Himself came back to earth and turned water to wine, half of MacRumors would say 'meh, this is red. I wanted white.'"

Best quote I have seen on MacRumor so far. You forgot to mention that the other half would bitch about it being room temperature instead of chilled.

Not really - the real wine cognisati will complain that a red is not being served at cellar temperature - wine should not be served at "room temperature" - unless you keep your house at 15 degrees.
