US video chat never took off cuz the phones/systems weren't compatible.

Hell, it took me 2 hours to get my senile parents to figure out a web cam + MSN. It was a horrible experience. The kids fell alseep by the time we got it going. So many camera/driver/MSN issues. I'm gonna make sure they get this new iphone so they can see their grand children.

In Europe it failed cuz the carriers want to charge diff rates vs a voice call.

What I want to see with the new cameras:

Facial recognition, used for photos, but also to ID how many people are in a room or a crowd. Lots of normal digital camera's these days can do it, and it's pretty amazing how fast it can pick out 10 faces and put boxes around them.

Motion detection, that compares frames of the image to see if they are changing and that indicates motion. It can use the accelerometer and Gyroscope to detect hand shake/vibration and exclude those effects.

These announcement days are too much like work for me. I want to get all interested in the new information and such, but I spend 50% of my time putting people on ignore instead... so frustrating.

Amen. Amazing how the genuine trolls rarely end up in the timeout corner. They are allowed unfettered to drag every discussion thread into the mire.

I started writing a response that was apropos to your claims, until it became clear that you're quite obviously not an expert on video conferencing systems - certainly in a global context. Nice try at trolling though!

Either we are both experts or both trolls. Your call. I stand by my words.

the opening and ending track (with the guitar) is "done did it" by blakroc (the hip-hop side project of the indie blues rock band black keys).

Yeah, thanks for the info... But Ive been looking like crazy for the track that follows the opening track...
If my hearing is correct, I hear some Bach's Cello Prelude (from suite 1) with a small twist of upbeat... would anyone be kind enough to point me in the direction of that track?
It starts at about 50 seconds mark on the vid
THANKS!
:D

All you crazy iPhone users are the reason the network is all clogged up for my Blackberry:mad: (sarcastic remark don't take me seriously) but...

I've come to respect Apple less and less. The reason I switched from "the darkside (pc)" was because of Macintosh computers, not a stupid phone. It seems like my user group is being left out in the cold. I wish they would spend as much r&d on the Mac brand of products and OSX rather then "iOS" and the iPhone.

It used to be that Macintosh computers were the main Apple market. Then iPods and iPhones came along which should've been kept as sub-markets, but now have become the main market Apple focuses on in its line of products.

I sincerely wish they would spend as much money in development for Macs, OSX, Final Cut, etc. Unfortunately they won't/aren't do/ing that.

Its a shame they are turning their focus from the very thing that brought me to Apple, though I understand many people are being brought to Apple because of iPods and iPhones, which don't get me wrong are great products.

Anyways, my main reason for posting is to figure out what the song is in the video, the cello one mentioned above, does anyone know? :D

Thanks

Unfortunately, the only change I really wanted was a change in carrier. Adios iPhone, hello android...

The iPhone is no longer good enough to justify paying top dollar to be on a crappy network.

I felt the same way as you for a long time but I have come to realize that they are not redirecting their attention AWAY from OS X. They are simply emphasizing their power to propel other devices and operating systems forward. There will continue to be Macs, OS X in the future with plenty of new goodies. Just give it time.

Agreed - the sense of neglect is somewhat alarming, but the bottom line is Apple still makes the best laptops and desktop computers on the planet (not specs-wise but overall build quality, usability, & user experience) for the majority of consumers - and their increasing sales numbers reflect that.

I would like to see Apple expend a little more energy "walking and chewing gum at the same time" as it were. Though we've seen what can happen to companies who broaden their focus too much (Microsoft).

Just have to rely on phones with crappy user interfaces. The same reason no other features on cell phones were used before the iPhone.

Plenty of cell phones had plenty of features before the iPhone and NOBODY used them because the UIs on the phones sucked so bad that it was impossible for anyone to actually use them...

So wait and see and you will be astonished how many UK people end up using face time as opposed to some 6 year old video chat on some horrible phone UI from the past.

Most cell phones had cameras before the iPhone, but almost nobody used them with any regularity.... Same will happen with Face Time. it is easy to use, you just hit a single button on the contract screen.

People making these comparisons and taking about how the rest of the world has this stuff and it is no big deal are dreaming... Wait and see...

I know exactly what you mean! Nokia's were the main phone that initially had video calling here in the UK.

I remember I'd just bought an N70, and wanted to organise going out to the cinema with a friend. I selected their number from the phone book and it popped up these two options, "Voice call," and "Video call."

I had to get the instruction manual out, check Google and all sorts, it was an absolute nightmare. I just couldn't figure out how to male a call. I promptly threw the phone in the Thames and vowed to only buy Apple from that point on.

Well, I have a iPhone 3GS, but 2 years ago, it was impossible for me to actually use my Sony Ericsson. It drove me crazy. It popped up "Voice call," "Video call" and "cancel". :p

I love it when posts have intellect, make sense and hit the mark like this one.

What mark did it hit? It was misguided and dumb. MS dominates the computer OS world still, and not only did they compete with Nintendo and Sony witness their first attempt at a console, they beat Sony with their second one. I think diversifying has done them pretty well.

Absolutely. The future is in mobility, for business as well as the consumer market. As much as I want a new 27" iMac, that's the reality, and Apple's crystal ball has been dead accurate since the first iPod.

Computers aren't being ignored; Apple is positioning itself to deal with competition in the mobile device sector, and looking toward lighter, more powerful processors and their potential to evolve these devices.

It's worth the wait on updated Macs just to read posts from the Android camp having a stroke over the new iPhone.

You just used the gaming console market as a comparison to the computing market. Apple hasn't even entered the "Gaming Console" market if you don't consider the iPhone/iPad/iPod devices serious gaming devices.

Microsoft holds marketshare currently in both the OS market and gaming console market and will for a long time simply because it will take time for users to break away from the OS they have been using for the last 15 years. The XBOX is the first great idea Microsoft has had. They did a great job of innovating a gaming console to allow interaction with other users. This was revolutionary at the time. Now to look at OS's they are lagging severely not in marketshare but in features, integration, user friendliness, worthwhile hardware. Google is following the same approach Microsoft used to make Windows as widespread as it is. License your OS to EVERYONE in order to get the products out there as much as possible. The problem with this is software and hardware integration. It simply isn't perfect. This is why Apple doesn't license out ANY of their OS's. This is what differentiates Apple from every other company. They don't follow a profit hungry business model but rather one that promotes quality over quantity. If you are too ignorant to see that then it's hopeless arguing with you.

PS. We can't forget about the red ring of death. Overheating your XBOX on purpose isn't exactly hardware integration at its finest. ;)

No one?

I'll get one once my contract is up, for the better camera and battery life. Phone-to-phone video my phone of years ago could do, though not in so many pixels, so it's hardly cutting edge. And these kind of ads, with Apple employees telling us how great their products are, are getting annoying.

isnt that for focusing? the iphone doesnt have an adjustable focus, so what would be the point?

The music you're talking about is from the song "Secrets" by OneRepublic.
