Not sure I get the logic: No one is going to buy these, "which is why Apple have released them when nobody was looking."

Does that work?

Just because you release something doesn't mean anyone will buy it. You see the difference?

All I was saying is that the iPod is not the main event any more. The iPhone 5 launch and the iPad Mini launch will be the two big events for Apple this Christmas. The new iPods are less important. So they have sandwiched the iPod release date now to allow sufficient time in between the recent iPhone 5 launch and the forthcoming iPad Mini launch. At least that way the iPod gets some publicity without being drowned out by the other two launches.

If you look at Apple's quarterly numbers sales of iPods have been falling steadily over the past couple of years as people migrate to other devices. I wonder how many kids this year are going to ask santa for an iPod and how many are going to ask him for a iPad Mini instead? My bet would be with the latter.

People who do things like jogging, weight lifting at the gym or go biking would disagree.

I know some people like to work out with their iPhone but not everybody likes to strap their phone to their arm or try to jog with an iPod Classic in their pocket.

It's why some people still buy Shuffles and Nanos.

I would agree they will continue to sell some but it not like the iPod frenzy there was a few years ago. I agree with the gym thing although I go to the gym most days and most of the people I see in there now have iPhones instead.

I would have loved an iPod Watch just for that very purpose but Apple chose to go another route. I would agree about the old iPod Nano - but how are you going to wear the new nano unless you get one of those horrible upper arm band things. If Apple was still selling loads to gym people like us then why change the shape of the nano? The old one was much easier to clip to your shirt or pants.

I don't know if they realize that the target audience these days for standalone MP3 players is mostly to people who use them for exercising. I dunno, the new Nano should have a clip on it.

When I go jogging with my 3rd gen Nano I either hold it in my hand or put it in my pocket. Never been a fan of the arm band, it feels like I'm getting my blood pressure taken at the doctor's office. Can't imagine using one with my iPhone while jogging.

Audiophiles wouldn't go anywhere near an iDevice. Even Samsung bests Apple on that front.

It's all about Cowon.

Interesting. I've never used a Cowon device although I think they look very nice. Are you saying they offer a much better sound quality than the iPod?

Given the change in the shape of the new nano they must have taken the view that either people going to the gym aren't buying them any more or they are buying the shuffle instead. Otherwise why change the shape. The new nano is all wrong for the gym.

I was desperately hoping for the iPod Watch. That would be perfect for the gym and for running with wireless headphones but sadly it was not to be. I know Apple famously doesn't do any market research but maybe in this case they should to find out who is using the nano and for what purpose.

The other thing I was disappointed about was the decision to continue to max out at 64GB. I have an iPod classic which I've saved my entire music collection on to in lossless. I don't take it anywhere it just sits at home. I would happily upgrade to the touch if there was a 128GB version at a reasonable price. But again sadly not this year so I'll just keep my classic for another year instead.

Which is why they spent an hour announcing them in September.

Why not release them in Sept then? Why wait a month to release them? They didn't even announce a date in the keynote when they would be in the shops. Just "coming in Oct". Hardly shows confidence. I'm sure they will continue to sell. My main point was that sales have been falling according to Apple's own official figures and I think they will continue to fall.

This again.

I worked at McDonalds at the time and remember this. The biggest complaint we had about the coffee was that it wasn't served hot enough for it to still be warm when people got to their destination. We raised the temperature a little and the complaints stopped. It wasn't a matter of "we serve coffee hotter than anybody else", it was responding to what customers asked for.

I'm sorry that the woman went through the pain that she did but it takes neither intelligence nor intuition to understand why putting any drink, whether hot or cold, between one's legs may not be the best idea.

addressing a symptom, not the root cause, resulted in McDonald's keeping their coffee at a near-boiling 185F and resulted in this lawsuit

the root cause of the coffee not staying hot long enough was that the cups they used did not insulate properly. simply using a different cup would have addressed their problem. nothing at 185F should ever be handed to someone in a car (it's common sense) and when the dozens of complaints piled up about burns McDonald's neglected to do anything

i was just at a McDonald's this morning. ordered a medium coffee for a dollar. it was still plenty hot when i got to work. proof that 185F was not necessary and when it resulted in critical injuries, McDonald's neglected to address the problem

Since the materials are similar to the iPhone 5, perhaps they wanted to get the initial demand dealt with before sending out the iPod Touch.

That's interesting. This ad really made it clear to me that I am 100% NOT their target audience and that this product is something that I neither need nor want. I'm a GALAXY away from there... :p

Yes, we need phone and computer. Dedicate music player and tablet are toys.

Well done for kiwi songwriter willie moon for making it to an apple ad, joins bono and the likes now.

Apple must be really scrambling to find the perfect design for the nano. I haven't seen so many re-designs in such a short period of time. I honestly liked last generation's design better. But, I liked the design they had back in 2009 the best.

yeah. The first design lasted for two generations/years, the second one lasted for one generation/year, the third one lasted for two generations/years, the fourth one lasted for 1 generation/two years, and now there is this one. What is next?
