The Required QuickTime 7.1.3 Never Showed In My Software Updater But Is On The Apple Site Here. Anyone know how long it's been sitting up there without telling us to download it?

Yeah, I had the same problem. It's nice that they've decoupled iTunes and QT now though. I don't want iTunes on all my Windows machines, but almost always want QT installed EVERYWHERE.

It quickly became a pet peeve of mine when they bundled the two things together.

Looks lke we need a software update for games but no update is available. Hmm - are the current 5G no good for games?

You people amaze me... We all knew this was going to be a iTunes/movie/iPod event. Why did you think they were going to release a new MBP? That doesn't even make sense. They will most likely release them like the did the iMac last week.

We amazing you? ;)

I think everyone who's waiting for a C2D MBP pretty much knew they weren't going to be released today. They were just hoping that they might, as did I. I've been thinking the 26th at the Photokina event, but that didn't stop me from hoping they could go ahead and post them on the website today without Steve having to worry about announcing them. They most likely will be a silent upgrade.

Well I think all of the products are compelling...I'm very disappointed that there will be no rentals, the price to buy the movies is too high so who cares about a streaming device...Oh well...Not for me I guess...

You can stream ANY video content that iTunes can handle. So it's nice even if you don't buy from the apple store - you can rip your own DVD's with something like handbrake and stream those.

Ewww...No student discount at all on iPods now...

That's a bummer. I was counting on the EDU discount, without it the price drops aren't as cool. I wonder if they'll bring it back after a time, once the student promotion and initial crush of demand are over?

Possibilty: That it only plays DVDs that have been encoded in h.264

Interesting point, it's possible they'll use a dedicated h.264 chip. Good thing I've been doing all my ripping in h.264.

I can't seem to get it to play? .. Did you (or anyone else) was able to watch the stream?

It keeps saying "Connecting..." and "Changing Transport"...
did you update quicktime, that might be the problem.

Try setting your stream speed to something specific besides automatic.

I watched the entire thing on the old Quicktime. I was actually downloading the update as I was watching. Sound was really low though but only for people talking (Steve, Bob Igor). Just a bad mix.

Please Explain Why You Made This Post Without A Link To It?

Interesting to watch. Thanks for the link!
What Link?

STOP POSTING ABOUT A LINK WITHOUT INCLUDING THE LINK.

Will somebody repost the link tothe special event stream? I cannot find it.

I finally found the link on the cover of MacRumors. It is HERE.

Perfect it's hosed so none of us can watch it now anyway.

I am currently encoding a 640x480 H.264 file to see if it will load on my 5G Video iPod now that I have the update. The description of the update makes no mention of this new higher dimension H.264 capability. Only "Bug Fixes."

I watched the macrumors text coverage live then went to a 3.0 megabit DSL connection to watch the streaming event. Except for a slight mis-synch between audio and video it played smoothly. I believe it needs buffering if only to assure synch. I am not big on pure streaming due to it being error prone and lossy. My connection is never QUITE as good as Apple engineers presume. It NEEDS buffering.

I like how Steve did one more thing several times. I have missed it in several past presentations.

I will be a buyer of an iPod this year, hopefully the full-screen version, as well as one of his set-top boxes. I am also not only buying a Merom MBP when they arrive but suggesting them for my employees and associates. Many are linux geeks of course.

The kids will be getting MacBooks for christmas and Yonah is just fine for that. It's faster by far than my trusty Titanium Powerbook!

Loading fine for me, but I've seen others with this problem in the last few hours. Not unusual for some wonkiness to appear under heavy server loads...

Thats a good point...maybe I should get the 500Gb Hard Drive in my new iMac...

Cooool!

I watched the whole quicktime stream and it was neat. I really want that iTV thing!! I must say they did a great job with iTunes but I dont like that they removed all the aqua from the interface. I especially like the Summery you get when attaching an iPod to you Mac, really neat! All and all it was a good event, lets hope for more. :D

I feel the same. I hope this isn't what is to come for the supposed Vector Aqua. I really love the Aqua Scroll Bar as it is!

I just noticed that Cmd+1 no longer makes the iTunes Main window appear yet it still states it does under the Help Viewer (Keyboard Shortcuts). Also, Cmd+2 doesn't make the EQ appear. Seems they forgot to change those shortcuts to say that they are now reserved for Video, "Actual Size" (Cmd+1) and "Double Size" (Cmd+2). Boo, at least I have SizzlingKeys which makes F8 bring up iTunes.
