*Sigh*

Why don't Apple release torrents, web streams *never* work. Just provide a direct download or a torrent or something. Trying to access that stream from Australia is just laughable.

I can't believe in 2008 a big name company like Apple is still getting something as simple as web video so horribly horribly wrong. Torrents thrive on massively hyped releases, get with it Apple.

The stream worked flawlessly for me, which is good because torrents don't work at all thanks to my internet provider.

Just finished watching.
  1. Apple, thank you for the free iPhone OS update.
  2. Looking forward to the App Store July 11.
  3. MobileMe should be nice - minimizing the need to manually cradle/sync.

A few rumor misses will keep me satisfied with current 16GB iPhone.
  • GPS software (turn-by-turn with audio) not implemented/demonstrated.
  • No video camera support (yet).
  • Maximum capacity is unchanged.
  • Lower price is superficial because recouped in monthly AT&T fees.

Features others will enjoy until I purchase the next awesome 4G 2009 model.
  • 3G speed.
  • Accurate GPS location services.
  • Remaining features available to all iPhone users.

Apple, you left room to grow, while raising the bar for those just getting their feet wet. Good Jobs. Or to use the phrase mentioned several times in the keynote: 'we're blown away.'

(Amazing how Apple can run out of product for over two months and still reach its target of 10 million units for 2008.)

We haven't seen any Apple apps yet. Wait until the App Store goes live, I'll bet they've got some homegrown goodies sitting on the store.

I'd like to see "To Do" list from my iCal/Mail available. That should take them 4 minutes to write.

2 things.

first, can anyone explain what is the app store?
cuz i read quite a few articals about it but i still dont understand what it is.

second thing, so does it mean that we certainly wont get a new mb / mbp this summer (before school starts) ?

WWDC Keynote Podcast is Out

What everyone seems to be missing here is that Apple thinks it has hit a home run with the iPhone SDK, from the feedback it has received from developers. Apple believes that it is about to create a new market, based on mobile multimedia devices. It believes that it is in a position to exploit this market the same way it exploited the MP3 market with iTunes and the iPod.

The lower price of the 3G iPhone will mean a substantially lower profit per unit for Apple (an unusual marketing strategy for the company, to be sure), but at least a tripling of sales. And that's not including sales driven by the App Store. Apple is anticipating that thousands of apps will become available at the App Store by the end of 2008, and those apps will further drive iPhone sales. In a way, it will be similar to the xBox, in which the profits are in the software sales, not the hardware sales.

I think the aggressive price lowering of the iPhone (remember what the pricing was just 1 year ago) and the focus on the iPhone SDK at WWDC demonstrate how aggressively Apple is moving to try to take advantage of what it perceives as a great opportunity to change the face of technology again, and to potentially become the dominant player in a developing market.

i just watched the Keynote then as i didnt stay up for the live feed and just had a Geology test at uni. the stream was perfect on my 1.5 Mb line.

many of you are probably thinking were ive been! (or not! :D)

my thoughts

  • iPhone SDK 2.0 is amazing! it looks soo easy to make apps
  • too many developer demos… took up like half the keynote! they never ended! :(
  • mobileme sounds awesome! having your own little exchange server would be very useful and the web applications look really fast and crisp
  • thank God Steve released the 3G iPhone! i was really worried there for a while as most of the event was allocated to iPhone app demos
  • i cant believe Apple is releasing iPhone to 70 countries in 2 months… thats amazing… i mean c'mon even The Ivory Coast!
  • i cant believe the iPhone is now 199… im gobsmacked
i loved the "its a small world after all" bit, seeing Al Gore laughing at it just put a smile on my face :)

Was going to ask about the same thing. He looks sick and his extensive use of "extras" is a bit worrying.

I hope his cancer isn't back. I really hope he's ok.
:(

so thats why he wears that wierd shirt all the time?

To be fair, it isn't called the World Wide DEVELOPERS Conference for nothing. :)

i know, i know!… thats just how i feel. i mean how many did they show? 10? i already had a feel of most of them at the last SDK keynote.

as you can see above i got more excited at the end. overall a good watch.

I'm going to make a drinking game out of the keynote:

Every time you hear the phrase or a related phrase "BLOWN AWAY" take a shot.

I'm blown away by the usage of the words "BLOWN AWAY" :D

It did drag on, that's for sure. But if you want to wow a room full of press and developers, you should show as much as you can when you have a captive audience.

The new phone is awesome. The fact that the new software runs on both the current and new model is even better. Add the fact that Mobile Me will work on the first iPhone and I'm a happy camper.

The only way it could have been better for me is if they'd announced a new Mini. :)

these never work for me in safari...I usually have to get the url from the source and pop it into vlc

at least for me, the WWDC '08 podcast cuts out at 21:39. Anyone else have luck? At least I've already seen the streamed version...
Maybe this is something to do with the podcast download reading 1.08gb and the resulting file only being 253mb?

Otherwise, thanks for the tip aznkid25.
