i been using a 7 inch phone for the past 2 years and i think a 4 inch is way to small to read a txt or to do anything.

Possibly iPhone 6c. Or maybe they are making a smaller iPhone 6/6s for the customers who liked the size of the 4" iPhone.

All we need to do is look at the source of this rumor and realize we can ignore it.

On the other hand, a lower cost iPhone would hit the spot. My 3GS still rocks and I don't really need all the performance of 6S so a slightly slower, smaller model would be great for upgrade time.

What? He's actually fairly accurate when it comes to iPhone rumors.

You're seriously still on a 3gs? :)

It does look very good with its larger siblings.

Doesn't seem like this would be newer. If this 'happens' the tech would be running 1 to 2 years behind the current iPhones flag ship models.

To be fair I just meant it'd be newer than the tech in the 5S. I think if they do a 4inch it should be on par with the larger sizes. Make one uniform design and features and just let users pick a size/price point.

I don't own an iPhone, so forgive my my uninformedness, but are all these iPhones really necessary?
iPhone 6s + just came out and already there's talk of a new 4" iPhone months later!
And what, really, will be all that big of a difference between an iPhone 6s+ & an iPhone 7+?
I know iPhone's their cashcow & God bless 'em, but isn't this getting sort of rediculous?

Apple introduce one or two new phones per year. Samsung introduce about 50 new phones per year. Which is ridiculous?

Late to the party, but here's my theory (which may be original or already widely popular and/or dismissed).

So, here's my theory (again, which may be widely held already; just don't have time to read this thread):

There will be no iPhone that comes out in 2016.

The current iPhone is robust enough and will sell enough that a 2016 update will not happen, because...

June 29, 2017 is the ten-year anniversary of the iPhone. The iPhone 6s will be the last to roll out until Apple unveils some wicked awesome, truly-game-changing iPhone on that anniversary. Perhaps the iPhone X (denoting the 10-year anniversary).

Carry on.
But if Apple releases a tremendous and powerful device in 2017, would they call it directly iPhone 8? Eight in Chinese culture is a good number, representing earning more money, and gaining more luck. With this Tim Cook could make those Chinese customers even happier, culture wise.

Bloatware... nothing like Android, but all those compulsory apps. For example Apple Watch, News, Wallet, Tips, Voice Memos, Game Centre, Compass...etc.

Who let my mum choose her own phone? I don't think she needs my permission. I moved out of home 20 years ago and mum doesn't need my permission to spend her own hard earned cash. My brother woulda said 'get an android' (he's closer to her). She's wise enough to make her own decisions - it's Apple who mislead her by being uniquely stingy and offering an 8GB phone (that ends up being 2GB).

She doesn't need your permission, but she definitely need your advice.
And NO, she's not wise enough since she bought an 8 Gb iPhone 5C.
Apple didn't mislead her: the phone was advertised as an 8 Gb iPhone.

I'd like to offer that preference of size has something to do with how an iPhone is used. I've seen a lot of ladies with the larger 6 model screen, they seem to be using it a lot for web stuff.

I never surf on my phone, rarely I will check something up in Safari. I use it to make calls, check calendar, check mail (not really do mail), take pics, listen to music in the car and as a video recorder when i drive. (With OSmAnd DVR, I recommend that app btw, it's awesome for its purpose)

The 4" 5s size is about perfect for those purposes. Haven't cared about 6 or 6s since the one I have is doing a god job for me. So a new 4" model with good specs would be awesome.

Except that the source of this rumor is usually right with his "predictions".

Apple seduces you into upgrading. It's a cat-and-mouse game with a sexy cat. Apple doesn't push you to a new device, they pull you into their world.

Well, sort of, it has not been as sexy lately. The latest example: my iPhone was updated to iOS 9 via iTunes and straight after the update the same iTunes popped up a message saying I needed to upgrade my iTunes version or go whistle. :) So in a minute I lost the ability to synch stuff between that machine and the iPhone. Chatted to Apple Support folks, who say the only way to communicate with it now is to upgrade the software (Yosemite & iTunes). Then I upgrade my iPad to iOS 9 OTA and it continues working with the same old iTunes on the same old computer. Cheeky monkeys.

What are you insecure about others wanting a smaller phone or something? Is it personally offensive to you to the extent you have to mock people?

How hard is it to understand that different sizes work for different people? Its got nothing to do with masculinity. How is wanting to use a phone one handed a bad thing? Thats a pretty degrading/sexist statement.

Because it's like a grown man wanting to drive around in a pink Volkswagen Beetle.

No.

4" release in January? Quite the far-fetched rumor, if you ask me!

Not hard to imagine the amount of wasted design time, material, and funding that a redesigned 4" phone would yield. Also, if the 6s and 6s plus have broken all-time sales records... The idea of still having "demand" for a 4" device seems silly.

To be fair I just meant it'd be newer than the tech in the 5S. I think if they do a 4inch it should be on par with the larger sizes. Make one uniform design and features and just let users pick a size/price point.

Not sure how the pricing would work if the components where the same and the standard sizes.

Base pricing??

$99 4 " iPhone
$199 4.7" iPhone
$299 5.5" iPhone

Doesn't seem like this would be favorable to Apple since it would cannibalize sales from the 4.7 model.
