it's just a newb bringing a thread back to life, it happens everyday.

I'm also still waiting on 10.4.12. I can't go to 10.5 unless I buy a new computer. I can't think of anything that needs fixing in 10.4.11, and it's more stable than 10.5.

Indeed, I ran Leopard on my iBook for about a month, and went back to Tiger because it was so slow and buggy. I don't need Spaces, Stacks or the "new" finder; Tiger works great, and that's all that matters.

(Ironically, I am now running 10.4.11, and I stated in one of my earlier posts about how 10.4.11 killed my mini; don't know exactly what went wrong there, all I remember is my mini was slow. Must've been something else.)

A 10.4.12 update would be nice though. :)

I can't believe this thread was resurrected. There have not been any recent rumors about a 10.4.12, nothing since this was originally floated last March, have there?

In fact, if Apple was plannning a 10.4.12 I would expect it would at least be released at the same time as 10.5.4 to include compatibility features with MobileMe. But there has been no mention of that, and Apple's Terms of Service for MobileMe specifically refers to 10.4.11 as required for support, so I don't think they are thinking in terms of a 10.4.12 at all.

10.4.12 aka Snow Tiger - Only runs on PPC. :D

Well, I've got 1.5GB of ram now, a 1.8GHz 7448 G4 and a working ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP and various OpenGL screensavers STILL tend to bog down to 15fps (e.g. GLMatrix) in Leopard (runs fine in Tiger). Other system effects in Leopard now run fine (window animations, the dashboard wave/water effect when adding new apps, etc.)

The funny thing is Xbench actually gave me higher graphics ratings with the Rage128 in Tiger and Leopard only gets a 10 higher rating compared to moving the Rage 128 Kexts over to Leopard. Clearly, Xbench is flawed, though since the feeling in Leopard is vastly improved and usable now. Still, I can't help but wonder what's going on with OpenGL. I guess I should look for some other tests. MameOSX runs very poorly, for example. A game like Altered Beast should be 100% on this system and it drops its frame rate down in the 80% range. The older MacMame (.103 I think was the the last version) runs full speed by comparison with that game, but goes slow with Asteroids which runs full speed in yet older versions, even when it was only a dual 553 with 512MB of ram and a Rage 128. I find these results bizarre at best, although I haven't gone back and tested them under Tiger again yet to compare. The problem might soley be with Leopard (which is now at 10.5.4).

Really, I need to get a 3D Mac game from a few years back to try on it, I suppose to see how the 3D really performs.

And this is related to 10.4.12, how, exactly?

It's just a followup comment to #73 on page 2. Leopard just randomly froze on me a little bit ago so I still find myself booting into Tiger, which appears to be much more stable. Unfortunately, Tiger is not getting some newer Leopard features added to it like headset bluetooth support for more than just D-Link adapters, etc.
