I have a feeling this feature will be very much like Apple CarPlay, where it will be a slow ‘roll out’ and probably won’t have full adoption for years to come from most manufacturers.
When (if) it gets widespread, I wonder if there will be any trouble with people picking up phones from tables in restaurants and wandering the parking lot to see if a car responds. A key fob would generally stay in a pocket, but it's not too uncommon for people to put their phone on the table.

Audi is just overpriced average Joe cars.
My daughter has worked for a range of car suppliers official dealerships here in the UK. Many years ago it was the BMW brigade who had a reputation for being a**holes, driving like they owned the road and ignorance of where the turn indicators were. It was when she was working for AUDI that she noticed the drift from BMW to Audi by the same crowd, and it is now AUDI drivers who bear that mantle. I hasten to say not all of them by any means, but if you do see someone driving like a prick, it is more often than not an AUDI.
( and lets not mention the " Berk in a Merc " who are tarred with the same brush )

I will NEVER EVER buy a Chinese car. I would not even consider it. I would rather walk!!!!!
Americans should not buy this too. It is enough!

I have the 2022 Kia Niro that was added to the Car Key list back in March. Car Key functionality is nowhere to be found, and Kia support won't confirm or deny anything. There is a theory floating around that the model Apple is referring to is the Korean version of the 2022 Niro, which in the US is the 2023 Niro. That car was a redesign from the previous model year and Kia advertises it as including their Digital Key 2 technology, which I just assume is what enables Car Key. Anyway, I hope I'm wrong - I'd love to see Car Key actually come to my US 2022 Niro.

Where do you get this nonsense?

Would you like exploding seat-belt pretensioners? https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a40104435/hyundai-recall-exploding-seatbelts/

Fire-prone ABS modules? https://www.repairerdrivennews.com/...n-not-to-park-vehicles-inside-near-buildings/

The more than a million cars recalled for engine defects only after a whistleblower escaped South Korea with evidence of the coverup? https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/new...stleblower-24m-in-engine-recall-case/3040624/

Teslas don’t come with key fobs.

Model 3 and Y aren't delivered with a fob unless you buy them separately. Model S and X are delivered with both a couple fob and a couple cards. (2022 MS Plaid) That said, I would love to see Tesla move to support Apple Car Key, then I wouldn't need to leave any app open on my phone, and could even rely on just a watch.

Love having my phone be my key with our Tesla Y. Its so odd when I go to drive our Leaf or my work truck, have to find the key fob(s) before I can go anywhere...

I agree. The only thing I miss about the fob in my pocket is needing to get into the frunk. Having to fish it out, switch to the app, switch to the right car, allow it to connect, tap the button, tap the confirmation. That is way way more effort. Easier almost to just get in the car and open it, unless your hands are filled with bags. (which makes the phone route a problem too)

Still, I'm switched over to phone and card in the wallet. (for emergencies)

You can already rely on just a watch. There are a number of apps that let you do that. The point of CarKey is that the phone can be dead and still work as a key.

Absolutely, and that is exactly the functionality I would like to see in my Tesla experience. The easiest way for them to get to that point is to adopt Apple Car Key. It would be amazing to not have to rely on the Tesla app to drive the car, and allow it to handle remote controls and displaying information. (about cars and solar)

Let me know when the US government had to step in to force either brand to recall more than 8 million vehicles while levying a fine in the hundreds of millions over non-compliance.

The brands build garbage. End of story.

I have the car ported into HomeKit via Home Assistant. I just tell my watch to unlock the Tesla frunk.

Well, in the US, BMW are usually the a**holes.

Apple is preparing to begin supporting digital car keys in the Wallet app for two new car brands: Hyundai and BYD. The feature allows users to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles using a pass stored in the Wallet on the iPhone or Apple Watch, and Ultra Wideband with Express Mode in iOS 15 can even automatically lock and unlock a compatible car as you approach without needing to wake your device.

BMW was the first manufacturer to launch digital car keys in Wallet back in 2020, and two months ago Apple began listing several Genesis and Kia models as supporting the functionality. Over the last several days, Apple has added entries for both Hyundai and BYD to its Apple Pay configuration file. A similar change last September revealed the pending addition of Genesis support.

The inclusion of Hyundai on the list of car brands supporting digital car keys on iOS isn't much of a surprise, considering that Genesis and Kia were among the earliest adopters. Genesis is a luxury brand of Hyundai, while Hyundai is the largest stakeholder in Kia and the two companies are closely interrelated. Bloomberg also reported in January that both Hyundai and Genesis models would be adding the feature "by the summer."

BYD is a Chinese brand that has been trying to expand into other countries and recently announced that it will be moving to exclusively sell full electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

We've yet to hear which specific models from the two brands will support digital car keys on iPhone and Apple Watch, but a number of Hyundai models have supported digital car keys on Android for several model years.

They need to add the 2022 Hyundai Tucson. It already supports Android OS. Remote parking assistant works on Android phones. Time for Apple to jump on board!!!

I would love it if Tesla and Apple worked together. Being able to just tap your Watch to the car to unlock & start would be a major upgrade.

Can anyone here report if BMW is using the Apple Watch?
The MacRumors photo with the phone looks extremely unsexy.
If you’re asking if the Apple Watch can be used as the digital key to unlock and start the car, the answer is yes. I use it all the time and it’s great. With Express Mode, it’s just tap and go. Don’t even need to open the Wallet app.

You are probably right.

The Car Key list also lists the 2022 Genesis GV60 as supporting Car Key, but that car doesn't exist as a 2022 in the US and the one that just came out with Car Key support is a 2023.
