1. Actually I do know. But that's all I say about that.
2. As an Apple Share Holder I do care if a $599 Mac Mini cuts into the sales of $1199+ iMac.
If the iMac weren't selling like hot cakes I might re-think my decision and even still I would lower the price of the iMac first.
1. Well, if you really know, then it's sad news to hear the Mac mini isn't selling well. Understandable given the price and the hardware, however. Let's hope Apple updates it or replaces it with something more appropriate (lower price with similar/lower specs or higher price with more decent specs).
There is so many people who claim that the Mac mini isn't selling well but the general public has no numbers to base their claims on. I hope you understand my skepticism when you say that "you actually know".
What bugs me with your statement, however, is that if the Mac mini hadn't been a strong seller from day one it would not have survived the PowerPC to intel transition. It would also not have survived up to this point. And if it's not currently selling well
right now it's because it's outdated hardware at today's (Apple) prices. I'm sure all Apple systems see slower/less sales at the end of their cycle. And given the current cycle of the Mac mini, and the last update which was a simple slight bump in specs, it's no surprise that it's not selling well.
2. Would you care if both units made 250$ in profits? Given the current price and the current specs, it wouldn't surprise me.
😉
3. I seriously hope Apple has an upgrade or a replacement planned for the Mac mini. If they don't, I hope they'll watch the marketplace and see how people will fight over the remaining Mac mini systems. There IS a market for the Mac mini, but perhaps Mac mini buyers are more aware about computer hardware than regular people who buy iMacs, hence the slow sales right now.
