Because the final Safari 4 will be out by time 10.5.7 is?
Eh, Maybe. But I think 10.5.7 is just a week or two away, who knows how long Safari 4 will be in beta.
So one could assume that 10.5.8 and 10.5.9 will be released and then 10.6 Snow Leopard? Snow Leopard might not come out until at least Q4 '09 if that's the case.

Tiger was at 10.4.10 when Leopard came out, and Apple released 10.4.11 not too long after. So small updates are not really an indicator for the next OS release.

and mail.app will once again, after 4 years, hide after autolaunch at login when instructed

Haha, we can dream.

I just want the ability to change Energy Saver profiles from the menu bar back. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why they took that away with 10.5.6 (or .5, whenever they took it away).

Not Compatible

The fact that 10.5.7 isn't compatible with Safari 4 public beta is just fine with me. I tried Safari 4 and then uninstalled it in the same day. Page load times for sites like abcnews.com and cnn.com were HORRIBLE!

That said, I really liked the Safari 4 visualization of commonly accessed sites as a curved wall. My only gripe is that the button for viewing the wall is only available on the bookmarks bar and couldn't be added to the address bar above it.

My load times for these sites were brilliant.

Don't even begin to tell me how much your ISP is giving you mbps wise :p

I already have the Safari 4 beta installed. I wonder if I will have to uninstall it in order to run the update... Oh well, I don't really use Safari, I just wanted to see what it was like. Until Apple allows plugins (which I actually don't see happening) I will stay with Firefox.

The final version of Mac OS X 10.5.7 will support Safari 4 perfectly. We are talking about the developer version of this update.

All i want is for Apple to take time and make this OS release right the first time. Leopard is fine, i think we can wait.

We can only wish!

Actually, I'm just gonna put it out there right now: I'm betting on Mail.app correctly hiding on launch in SL. I don't have anything to back that up, but hey, if they're finally adding "Put Back" to the trash, why not??

This is really one of the things that annoys me with Apple software. They tend to bring innovative features with a beautiful user interface, but often have trivial bugs that they probably could have fixed within one or two business days!

How difficult can it be to make a mail-application make a sound when you receive a new mail?! And why does my aluminum iMac turn on it's screen numerous times in the middle of the night?!

There are countless of annoying examples, and I wish they could have sorted these out in one of these maintenance updates, instead of focusing on network problems that probably < 1% of Mac users experience!

Can someone check Dvorak Issues?

If you have 10.5.7 installed, can you check something for me? I use the Dvorak keyboard layout and bad things happened when I upgraded to 10.5.6. Command-key shortcuts don't work reliably in some programs.

To see if the problem is fixed:

1. Switch your keyboard setting (System Preferences> International>Input Menu) to Dvorak.

2. Open Microsoft Word (any version).

3. Type some text and select it.

4. Press Command-I on your keyboard (which is Command-C in the Dvorak layout).

If it successfully copies the text, the problem is fixed; if it italicizes the text, my frustration will continue.

Thanks,

-John

Preferences -> General -> "New Mail Sound"

Works for me...although I wish it was louder. iTunes, or anything else playing tends to drown it out. This is especially annoying now that I had to disable GrowlMail for Safari 4

No, you know what would be nice - if the locks in my System Preferences actually stayed locked each time I power back on. Who let that slip by after 6 revisions? Really? Gir...

Probably a dumb question, but I've never had this issue, so I'm just gonna ask it. Under Security in System Preferences, do you have "Require password to unlock each System Preferences pane" checked?

You really have quite the inflated view of software developer's ability to find and fix problems that show up on less than .1% of test situations.

Works fine here, and always has.

Maybe because you installed something that's waking up the computer? Again, not a problem here.

Yes, greater than 1% of users experience these network issues, which is far more than you can say about the other issues you mentioned. That makes it a much more important task for Apple to fix.

Maybe Apple will finally fix the issue preventing safari users from logging into enterprise outlook web access webmail. It used to work fine but for the last few years, newer releases of safari have blocked this. It is ridiculous. Works fine with firefox.

I have such an access and use it every single day without any issue with either Safari 3 or 4. I don't know what you are talking about...

Not dumb at all - I do have it checked. It will all stay locked across launch, and I believe logging back in as well - as far as I remember, as I almost never log out... It's after I Shut Down or Restart that everything is unlocked again.

Actually, it did work perfect in Tiger, but with the introduction of Leopard something broke. There's a few threads in this forum with other users complaining about this issue (here for instance). What's strange is that Mail plays the sound sometimes!
Maybe because you installed something that's waking up the computer? Again, not a problem here.
Well, Transmission runs 24/7, but other than that and Mail, no other applications run at night. I may have overrushed, stating that this is a software flaw, cause it seems that it only affects the aluminum iMacs. The Apple forums and various blogs also report this issue. Here's an example. Do you own such a Mac?

Just curious, have you experienced network problems? I sure, haven't!;)

focused on syncing and networking improvements

Yahoo! Both my home MacPro and my new work iMac can't seem to hang on to a network connection, whether it's ethernet or wireless. Currently, the problem seems to be correctable only by repairing permissions -- every other day.

It's quite obvious that Apple will release a new beta of Safari 4 that does run on 10.5.7 or modify 10.5.7 so that the current beta runs.

Please fix the wireless issues with 802.1X where it never remembers the password and often requires AirPort to be turned off and on again to fix this.

This happens on all Macs within my University, not just mine.

That's odd.
Wonder how long before that is remedied?
Can see this delaying current Safari 4 users from upgrading their OSes - kind of defeating the point.
Again, odd.

The reason Safari Beta 4 won't run on 10.5.7 is because

A. 10.5.7 is in a beta form
B. Safari 4 is in a beta form

When debugging releases of OSX engineers require the OSX install to not have any haxies or unreleased ( read "beta builds" ) software installed so they can fix the OSX bugs without having to wade through additional code. Since Safari 4.0 is in beta they have made it so it won't run on a beta of OSX. It makes it easier to debug code. I know because they have asked me on many occasions to remove anything like that when submitting bug reports.

M'kay ?;)
