i still want my music stored locally though. Its my music why should i let someone else hold it?
Apple won't hold your music.

Think of that cloudTunes thing like a huge warehouse. Inside it is the largest depository of music in the world.

A subscriber to the social web-front of iTunes Community merely uploads the library file that is in your iTunes folder. NOT the actual audio/video file.

The meta-data then gets correlated and compared to the very large array of music in South Carolina is it ?.
The results show up on your personalized page at the Social media website Apple sets up.

Now.
You want to listen to your library from home ? Cool. It's already stored in the warehouse.

Servers see the request and stream the song/video ( that it stores in the very large media collection array in S. Carolina ) to you on your iDevice.

Ah ha! Ok- I get it- you own the music locally, and the cloud has copies- and you sync the track identifying info, so you can stream what you already own out of your home... So you aren't actually copying anything in to the cloud, it's just like reading a book you already have at your house... At someone else's house that is their copy.. Sort of... Right?

I have inside information.

1. The band playing at the event will be sex bob-omb. They will play the acoustic version of Ramona.

2. The new Apple TV will be announced. The remote control will be an acoustic guitar. To do simple things like scroll up or down one menu, you just play a chord. If you want to get to advanced settings, you must play longer rifts. I understand, "Stairway to Heaven" will unlock a free $25 iTunes gift card (Only the first 1000 people get it.)

The guitar image Apple is using in their invites is a render of a guitar peripheral being introduced that allows someone to plug an iPad in to the space where the strings go and viritually play guitar. It's like a guitar with a rectangular space in it- the iPad goes in to the center, and through multitouch on the surface and the new version of garage band you can virtually play guitar.

You heard it here first...

One other thing, I don't know if anyone else spotted this. Apple is putting quite a bit of cash into some of these events. This makes me think they could be doing quite well. I think the rumors they are going out of business may be wrong.

Correct. The actual file being streamed originates from Apple's server.

And..

You can share playlists with other users. They will see your playlist on their respective page. And on their iDevices.

There might be a new "social" tab in the new version of iTunes app.

I am going to hit the booze if this frenzy of excitement turns into a frenzy of 'Steve, put down the word magical for a minute and tell us where the 5mp camera is on the new iPod Touch because I really - really - don't want to have to buy a Flip or a Kodak because of a missed opportunity.' Please don't let me say that aloud to an indifferent computer screen. Please.

First thing I thought when I saw that guitar was the Garage Band icon. An enhanced iLife suite would give the Mac platform a badly needed injection of magic, right? I gotta tell you, I just installed Linux Ubuntu 10.04 on a friend's PC along with the Nautilus Elementary theme and - if you put a tea towel over the cheap plastic computer case - looking good!

From a personal point of view, hoping for a brand new iTunes, hopefully 4.1 with Game Centre to be released to iPhone.

If they make the :apple:TV that good then I would be tempted, and I hope they give the iPod Touch FaceTime (I don't want the new iPod but I just want more people to FaceTime with :D)

Let's do the time warp again?

Notice all the other music event use electric music, rock with amp, dance with synths now an Acoustic
Yep i think we will see the end of all but the power cord for the iDevices. Let them all run standalone either with a me account or to your existing computer network and wifi or both.

I hope there is option to keep a core group of tracks or albums but others once played delete themselves get replaced by a random part of the collection.

I would absolutely love an iPod Touch 3G. It would solve so many of my communication needs. 2GB of data every month for around €10/15 would be perfect.

Its already out there, its called the iPhone :)
Buy an iPhone sim free and buy a data sim service that gives you the 2gb a month you need, such a contract is about £8-£10 over here so that fits in with your $10-$15

£7.50 a month over here gives you 1gb a month data only sim (like the one you'd use in an iPad)

I'm not holding my breath (edit - here in the US). I begged ATT to sell me an iphone at cost and only have an ipad data plan. No luck. They were forcing the voice plan. I doubt they would do an ipod with everything the iphone has, so I will hold on to mine a bit longer.

Yes, I know it's possible, but not really that affordable. Isn't a sim-free iPhone around €700?

True, not very cheap,£499 over here which is about $650, but I think if there was such a thing as a 3G iPod touch you'd be getting towards a similar price, after all an iPhone is an iPod touch with 3G and phone capabilties and not much more (granted the iPhone 4 has facetime, two cameras etc but it looks like the next iPod touch will as well, so the gap between iPhone and next gen iPod touch will be minimal). I think because of the amount of differences (or lack of) Apple won't release an iPod touch 3G

I agree that there is a gap in the market though for 3G portable music/internet devices, something more portable than the current iPad, but if the rumours are true of a smaller iPad, 7" then this will probably be as close to what you need, assuming they do a 3G version like the current iPad offering. If it was me, I'd say something more like 5/6" which is half way between iPhone/iPod touch and iPad, the iPad 7" if it becomes true might still be a bit big do you think?

Initially when I heard of the smaller iPad, I wasn't sure what it's use would be - you really do need the current size screen for reading and extended web browsing. But as a very portable 3G device, it would be great. I'm not sure that Apple would lose many customers for the iPhone if they introduced a 3g touch. As I understand it, people love just having the one device, and if I could afford the iPhone I would buy it. As it stands, I think I'm part of another customer base entirely - those who want to check email on the go for a small fixed price every month (without lugging around the iPad). A lot of students, small business owners and frequent travellers would jump at the chance to buy such a device as long as it was less than €350. I'm not sure you need the 7", 4" or 5" would be fine.

My first thought when seeing the logo was "Hmmm, an analog acoustic instrument for essentially and ALL DIGITAL EVENT!" Ironic.

My 2nd thought was, "Hmmm, have there been any new iTUNES / Beatles rumors lately?"
