I still don't understand why they don't feed the cable through the feet of the table. Everything would look so much more cleaner and elegant.View attachment 632057
Probably a fire/safety issue. Quick and obvious way to disconnect power in an emergency.

Genius: "Better start closing the doors"

There are two main types of Apple stores, those that restore historical buildings and the new ones built from scratch. This only affects the purpose-built stores.
Yes, but don't you understand what that says about contemporary architecture? You can restore almost any historical building and end up with a better looking Apple Store than when you build everything from scratch the way you want. That means our design philosophy is completely off. We've lost it.

And it's silly to compare the two. This is what one of my local Apple stores looks like (designed and built under Steve Jobs and Ron Johnson):

That's totally fine, but I think many people would disagree with you. I love some of the historical buildings, but I also really like the new store format. They fit harmoniously in almost any surrounding area, but still have a strong style that complements the devices that Apple makes.

I think the new store is beautiful.

It also appear that the new Apple logo reflects the one on the MacBooks, so no backlit logo in a space grey building.

Let's prepare on a complete lineup of space grey Macs :)

The surrounding area is named San Francisco and the property is immovable, it doesn't need to fit anywhere else just here. In fact that's part of the criticism.

"What's baffling is that a company renowned for design innovation has hired one of the world's most acclaimed architecture firms, only to unload a box that would look at home in Anymall, U.S.A."

What is an "urban design critic"? Some snob that thinks they know more about art and have better taste than you?

They are more in highlight these days for store openings and gossip articles than they are for actual product launches. Are we living in a Post-Apple era?

No.

It's called disappointment, disillusionment and plain old fashioned boredom with a stagnant, once buzzing company......

No, it's called snarky bores with nothing better to do than try to one up each other with inane, repetitive and stupid comments about anything Apple.

I think it very much depends on who they are and what their qualifications are.

It's entirely possible they do know more about art/design/architecture.

I was thinking the same thing! That's such an eye sore

Is MacRumors really run by Google, or are the forums just occupied by a bunch of people in urgent need of enemas? Seriously, on what is allegedly an Apple fan site, an article on the preview of a new SF store immediately yields 75+% negative comments.

It's like whiskey. Eventually the buzz wears off and you realize after you drank it, it was good at the time, but in hindsight.... and that's apple these days. It was good at a time, but now apple news is more a buzz kill than a buzz with all the lack of compelling innovation.

Forget innovation, products updates royally suck. All they do is thin things. The reason you see 75% negative comments is because these (self included) are the people who made apple, who praised it, bled it, and cannot even get a freaking laptop upgrade that doesnt have a year old tech in it with downgrades shoved in for good measure.

This is just a guess, but hiding flexible cords might be against the NEC code. If it's against the NEC, it voids any insurance coverage and that's no bueno.

It looks beautiful. There aren't many retailers that put as much emphasis on design of their spaces than Apple. I think that in years to come, some of the more original locations will become landmarked buildings when the inevitable happens and Apple contracts.

Yeah, fourteen tables from IKEA, great design..

Then if a reader finds the conversation not to their liking perhaps it's better they visit a different website?

Those white chunky spiral cables say so much about what's wrong with Apple. I'm amazed they themselves "Don't Get It"
It's an Umbilical Cord between a controlling mother and it's child.
Apple, is always wanting to hold you back, tie you down, lock you in.
Stopping you from being free and using other systems with it's products, keeping you in the garden.

It's so amazingly symbolic.....

Apple today invited journalists to San Francisco to preview its new Union Square store, set to open this weekend. Dozens of images are being shared on Twitter and other social networks, giving us our first glimpse at the revamped store that's been under construction for more than two years.

As it shows off the new location to journalists, Apple has also published a press release outlining all of the new features in the store.

The store features a next-generation design that's been adopted by other retail locations in Brussels and Memphis, with wide, open spaces, high ceilings, enormous windows, redesigned product display areas, and a 6K video screen that spans most of one wall. Unique to San Francisco is a set of massive 42-foot tall glass doors that slide open 40 feet to leave the front of the store open to the street.

This should read
"Apple announces the new desktop computer with 20 cores, 5 GPUs and 3 alternative operating sytems, OSXI, iOS and a new stripped down OS for pros who don't want all the silly stuff, have work to do and need a lean, fast machine at a cost of $1500. This establishes Apple back where it was as the maker of the most secure, user friendly, professionally orientated computer ever made. Cook, Ive and a host of other sycophants were last seen disappearing up their own egos reimagining their own distant, dismal fate. Investors now sure of a sensible, practical ethos in the Apple board room flock to buy shares especially as design and production is now centered only in the USA and Europe."

Ive is not an architect and not an interface designer. He has no clue. Go back to the lab and design a mouse with a charging port on the side and a pencil with a female connector instead of a male and iPhones and iPads without bumps. Instead now is even ruining the store's interior design. Him and Tim are the most egomaniac people in the planet and the board should fire both of them.
You care to elaborate on that statement? What was great about the stores years ago compared to today? How would you design an interface? Also, Tim Cook an egomaniac? He's probably one of the most modest CEOs out there. Steve Jobs on the other hand was an egomaniac and was proud of it.

multi-screen..... Apple's going all out...

I doubt Apple, of all companies, would buy furniture from IKEA........

U'r saying they build a great store with all that money, but then use less than desirable tables etc ? No way they would do that.. even for cost saving...

You want you store to look good, right. I would imagine it be like a car repair shop similar to fixing a 2016 car, but replacing it with old/used parts just to save the customer money..
