Every corporation is like this now. They all have the same, soul sucking, vapid culture. They'll screw you over nothing and then look the other way when something actually bad happens to an employee. Forget seeking employment he should retire or go independent.
Correction: every corporation ever has been like this. The standards just shift over time with culture but there were always things you couldn’t say as a c-suite exec who likely has a moral clause in his contract.

Since this gained a lot of traction Apple would probably be accused of giving higher ups special treatment if they let it slide instead.

The guy was at a car show, NOT at a company event or representing Apple and he was quoting a movie?

I dont get why people give a ****.

Its the modern woke liberalist workd we live in, only it’s liberalist in a certain way and if you dare step out of that then the world will crush you, as in this case, it was a joke and he was at a car event as a private individual.

Why would he response to a dumb TikToker?
To be frank, a lot of skillful business people do have loudmouth. But this is so stupid. If somebody approached me asking questions like that, I would either ignore or tell the guy no comment. I mean I'm sure he knew he was being recorded.

I wonder if Apple the one who lost here. Apple is in the middle of a lot of business negoti6, like the TSMC thing.

Moral of the story, don't respond to a random TikToker.

Maybe he should have used a different movie quote: "I am the best at what I do, but what I do is not very nice," because, you know, it isn't nice being alpha during business negotiations, it just gets the job done.

It's a dumb thing to say regardless, but I think context is important in this case. However, I get that this is about Apple protecting their brand image.
And this is Pebble Bach Concourse d’Elegance, not a low rider tailgate bbq at a shuttered Wallmart in Stockton. If you’re going to be saying this s**t, you DON‘T blab it at Pebble Beach. Of course Apple has to stomp on this. Poor decision, bad taste, immature. But funny.

jeez can’t even make a joke anymore . This world sucks
When I first read the story it did seem like an inappropriate and offensive comment especially for someone in his position, but given the context that he was simply quoting a line from the movie Arthur, I think people are overreacting as they are prone to doing these days. It's apparent to me, he regrets making the joke, and I think his apology is sincere. IMO he should have mentioned he was only quoting Arthur in his apology, perhaps then more people would understand. It's too bad for him and also for apple.

I wonder if he'd been drinking? Seems like an overly harsh response for a joke. Just another example of humor from yesteryear that's not acceptable by today's standards. IMO it's sad we're losing our ability to laugh and have a good time these days. I wish society hadn't gotten so hyper-sensitive.

I don’t think that was a joke. He was just rubbing it in. Looking down on people surrounding you so not much of a joke. There’s a huge difference.
He was quoting Arthur staring Dudley Moore, which is widely known to be a comedy, and a highly rated one. So, most likely a joke. I guess we're in a time where few people have seen Arthur. It's possible not many people these days recognized the quote.

He might have been better off quoting Tony Stark. "Billionaire, genius, playboy, philanthropist", "I'm kind of the only name in clean energy", or "I've successfully privatized world peace." 🤔

big-breasted women????!!!

Not to stroke social influencers, but the owner of this TikTok account has 13 million followers, so he's rather influential in the automobile world

He probably made these type of jokes all the time at Apple.
That's quite presumptive of you. IMO there's no way he would have lasted for as long as he did at apple if he made this type of joke at work. He made a mistake by quoting a movie that's old enough most people wouldn't get the reference, then apologized for it.

Stupid thing to say while being recorded? YES
Stupid thing to say while being recorded as an employee of Apple? YES
Poor attempt at humor? Depends on what you find funny, it was obviously a play on a line from a movie.
Should someone lose their job over an "in the moment" reaction to having a camera shoved in their face? NO
Cancel culture at work? YES
If this were a woman, everyone would be making excuses for her, and she might get an HR slap on the wrist….tsk tsk tsk.

What an idiot. If you’re a person of significance never say something controversial online, in public, or on camera. Keep it neutral. It’s PR 101.
Is quoting from a popular 1981 starring Dudley Moore as an obvious “none of your business what I really do” joke to a random guy sticking a camera in his face (and who no doubted edited it to portray what he wanted) really controversial?

Nobody better quote anything at all from Blazing Saddles. Or any Mel Brooks movie at all when it comes to it,

Seriously people? lighten up. He was loosely quoting a line from the movie "Arthur" where Dudley Moore's character says something similar. Its not like he kicked a puppy or something. If you really want an open society, you can't stifle free expression or you just end up with another version of totalitarian state. The far right and the far left are the same thing by different means. WOKE=MAGA

Now imagine you were a woman who reports to him, and you saw that. Better yet, imagine it was YOUR boss, and he made a lame joke referencing your ethnic group. Would you feel that negatively affected your work environment?

Ok, I'll play.....

First off, no reference was made to ethnicity or race, that is a pathetic attempt to make this sound worse than it is.

Second, as a woman who works for a man. Statistics show that the vast majority of men are sexually involved with women and therefore "fondle" breasts. You do agree with this, yes? Most people engage in sexual activity right? Is "fondle" the best term to use? Probably not but it is not offensive, if you do not know the definition here it is:

Now, again, if I know either statistically or for a fact that the man I work for is involved with a woman it should come as no surprise that he would handle or fondle her breasts either at one point or another or regularly, I cannot see how his comment would offend me. Is the comment crass? Maybe, but again this man was not in the office and not addressing any coworkers or subordinates, he made a flippant, off-hand comment to a random person who approached him at a car show.

You are not debating in good faith.

Conversely, men who work for women know that statistically they are probably involved with a man in some sexual capacity right? So if a man sees a video of his female manager at a non-work, off-site event speaking about how she enjoys groping a large penis should that man be offended? Should she be fired? Would she be fired? Doubt it.
