Nobody better quote anything at all from Blazing Saddles. Or any Mel Brooks movie at all when it comes to it,

Don’t worry, nobody will

I will!

In this clip no women were harmed or offended, in fact the lady in question seemed quite happy to be the object of the King's attentions!

On top of that and IMHO nearly everyone in the theater laughed at this scene.

Is quoting from a popular 1981 starring Dudley Moore as an obvious “none of your business what I really do” joke to a random guy sticking a camera in his face (and who no doubted edited it to portray what he wanted) really controversial?

I know it sucks, but you know how things are today. You can’t say anything without it being completely taken out of context.

giving craig a comedic slow motion and making much to do about his hair is very, very different from "i fondle big breasted women while boasting my wealth." if you really cannot see the difference between those two presentations of character, no one can help you.

describing craig as a "weird pervasion of geek sex appeal"....you are a deeply disturbed person who needs to not making things something they are not.

One is talking about it, one is doing something - that is the big difference. If you cannot see that they you're not seeing how this will play out.

I'm deeply disturbed?
Forstall was every bit a great programmer or lead for OS X and iOS (godfather really) than Craig ever was. Under Forstall there was NEVER an OS X/macOS X release with a blank default admin password (ahem Craig)! that's bonkers.

Name me one other Apple executive or employee that is flaunted over any physical trait for any announcement. I'll wait until I'm dead because there never was/has been before. This is close to pied piper which is really icky (WWDC_2018 A pack of rogue younglings Oooh their numbers gives them the courage to swarm .. pied piper).

LOL. When will people wake up - social media can absolutely negatively affect your current job and career!

Why? If he was great at his job? He didn’t mention who he worked for - the internet outed him and doxxed him on TikTok. It’s crazy that you have to walk on eggshells, or people will say he shouldn’t have joked or have said anything. So he should have just ignored the question, for self-preservation? He has to close himself off to the world out of fear of being fired? Has to always think about what he’s saying, and to who? That’s insane! What horrible precedents we are setting with all of this political correctness.

So if we're dealing with political correctness and that's the problem, let's just completely denigrate women, go back to the N word, dress in blackface, and go back to the real lyrics of Eenie Meanie Miney Moe. I mean, we're not worried about our jobs or our lifestyle, and other people don't matter, right?

Everyone is complaining that “you can’t even make a joke these days,” but are not considering that letting something like this slide would cost apple a lot. It’s not obvious to people who haven’t watched very many movies from 40 years ago (read: the entire viewership of tik tok) that this is a quote from a movie. Even if they did know, it doesn’t change the fact that some won’t find it funny and would look poorly on apple for keeping him around. That costs them and their shareholder’s money. Half of Apple’s market appeal is in their social cachet.

Yes it’s crazy to think that one stupid thing he said lost him his job, but he wasn’t working the genius bar, he was representing the company from the highest levels. So before we start blaming cancel culture, just remember that apple was compensating this man well and he will land softly on his next high-playing job—likely earning yearly more than you or I will make in our whole life.

"he has a reputation for aggressively negotiating with Apple suppliers to bring down Apple's costs."

Oh FFS... a VP of procurement for the richest company in the world can not by any means be light weight, PC, beta male. After having worked in that field (and getting flayed once too often), I know these guys are Alpha+, and this guy had to be Alpha among Alphas to do that job for that company. I hate to break it to the virtuous ponces among us (and boy oh boy are there a lot) but that kind of language is toned down for guys with the kind of personality that makes a successful negotiator, especially at that level. No it doesn't make for the best headlines in the cancel-culture media, but too ****ing bad. If his boss had any ***** himself, he would have stood up to the bad press. It's just part of the package.

If a woman quoted a movie that contained some sexual comment towards men, would she be fired?

I don’t think this has ever happened.

Standards are different for for men. Even down to dress code, hiring levels (do they ever think: “hey this team has too many women”?) nope. They do for men though.

You're missing another point here: some jokes - even if they are good jokes - do not age well.

Case in point: The first 15 minutes of Eddie Murphy: Delirious would not be considered appropriate at all nowadays, seeing how far we have come. Yes, it is funny, but again, would not work in today's society.

The same applies here, and knowing what has happened over the past 6 years with women and their denigration, especially in the political world, he should have known that what he was saying would have had repercussions. Lack of forethought is no excuse for such an action. then saying that they are "soft" is even more of a cop out.

I cannot believe anyone is whining about this at all. It was not just a joke, but a line from the movie ARTHUR - the good version not the terrible Russel Brand crapfest.

I cannot believe that people are so whiny and sanctimonious. But it is representative of the lame intellect and lack of humor in a generation - they don't have humor because they themselves are the unfunny, eternal joke. This nation has a completely doomed, useless generation. I guess that's why they choose purple hair because they are afraid of saying anything but still want attention.

Apple was just stupid here.

"Seeing how far we have come" is the only joke you have ever made, and you aren't even aware of it.

jeez can’t even make a joke anymore . This world sucks
So below are the current numbers for reactions to this very legitimate comment. 10% of these reactions are people who do not get this comment. So what that means is that the modern standard of only accepting those who express perfect virtue and silencing people with edgy senses of humor is being driven by 10%. Why would we think it is good that Apple fired a guy because he told a joke that a vast majority of people think is perfectly fine? Are we seriously wanting to live in a world where the most easily offended minority of people get to set the standards? Because that is where we are. The most easily offended people you can possibly find, who are a vast minority of people, are trying to force the majority of people from saying all of the things that the vast majority of people say or think all of the time. This is dumb. Apple fired him, good for Apple. I guess you aren't allowed to work there if you express a sense of humor while off the clock that 10% of people do not appreciate. That sounds like a crappy place to work.

Please.

you can still make jokes, this time it requires actual thought of the consequences.

One has to think first.

what I consider funny, does it reveal my character as a sexist, racist, homophobe, bigot or some rich insecure privileged a**hole needing to lord it over everyone else?

Apple is the one that fired him…er I mean he “departed”

🙄 Apples to oranges. Something said ‘in real life’ shouldn’t get you fired just because it was uploaded to the internet (and I’m sure he didn’t know or consent to that) and people figure out who you are. He didn’t say hey I’m super rich, I work for Apple. He jokingly used a play on words from a line from a movie! Absolutely nuts that a guy that good at his job was swiftly fired for something so small, how many people really saw that TikTok or really give a ****? Maybe 0.000001% of internet users? It’s so silly…and scary…
