So below are the current numbers for reactions to this very legitimate comment. 10% of these reactions are people who do not get this comment. So what that means is that the modern standard of only accepting those who express perfect virtue and silencing people with edgy senses of humor is being driven by 10%. Why would we think it is good that Apple fired a guy because he told a joke that a vast majority of people think is perfectly fine? Are we seriously wanting to live in a world where the most easily offended minority of people get to set the standards? Because that is where we are. The most easily offended people you can possibly find, who are a vast minority of people, are trying to force the majority of people from saying all of the things that the vast majority of people say or think all of the time. This is dumb. Apple fired him, good for Apple. I guess you aren't allowed to work there if you express a sense of humor while off the clock that 10% of people do not appreciate. That sounds like a crappy place to work.

Getting fired is nothing. Where I came from, governors went to jail for this kind of things.

Yeah, because MacRumors’ active readership accurately mirrors the workplace demographics of a company like Apple. Nice reach. 😂

If a woman quoted a movie that contained some sexual comment towards men, would she be fired?

If this happened, I would surely hope so, otherwise there is a double standard. However, I think the bigger issue is that women wouldn't go to such a level; or at least we haven't seen them go to such a level.

I don’t think this has ever happened.

You're right; it has never happened.

Standards are different for for men. Even down to dress code, hiring levels (do they ever think: “hey this team has too many women”?) nope. They do for men though.

Or perhaps men should actually stop thinking that because they are a man that they should think, believe, or assume that what they are doing is okay, and take everyone, regardless of gender or color into consideration before speaking?

BL.

Please.

you can still make jokes, this time it requires actual thought of the consequences.

One has to think first.

what I consider funny, does it reveal my character as a sexist, racist, homophobe, bigot or some rich insecure privileged a**hole needing to lord it over everyone else?

Apple is the one that fired him…er I mean he “departed”
Does it matter? He was not representing Apple (so it appears) and was on his own time, not company time.
Unlike someone we all know that confessed to grabbing women's genitalia yet still managed to become President of the US, this guy quotes a movie line on his own time and gets fired?

Doesn't matter. If someone suddenly approaches you with stupid questions and recording, why should you even response? Or maybe this guy's ego is already too high for his professional career.
Why even respond? Because you should be able to do whatever you want on your own personal time! What he said didn't break any laws. He didn't say anything about his employer. So much for freedom of speech.

His FoS rights stop the moment he enters Apple's doors. As much as I believe in FoS, as a private company, Apple can set limits on whatever speech they want to and his 1st Amendment rights aren't being violated

Not a sexist, chauvinistic joke, at women's expense.

Please explain for us, and be specific, how the comment:

"and fondle big-breasted women"

Is sexist? Doesn't seem to be versus the definition.

He is merely describing his sexual activities and his seeming well endowed lady friend seemed to agree. Do we all need to know what they do sexually? No, but I'm not surprised they practice that particular activity, I would venture to say that almost everyone does.

Is chauvinistic? Also doesn't seem to be versus the definition.

How is a man stating that he fondles breasts a chauvinistic comment? Isn't that just a general sexual activity and if his partner is well endowed then he fondles large breasts right?

Is at women's expense? His lady friend seemed genuinely amused, she did not seem offended, marginalized or embarrassed.

You do not seem to understand the meaning of words you use but your turn...

Was he at Apple? Was he representing Apple on an officially sanctioned event? Was he working for Apple at that moment? I can't say for sure, but it sure seemed like he was on his own personal time off at a car show.

Sorry but that is a bit over-exaggerated reaction if you ask me.
The man used a silly movie quote to answer a popular question (its a trend on TikTok where people mostly use witty/funny answers to how they got rich).

You're right he wasn't at Apple however I'd be willing to bet money they have clauses about conduct when representing Apple, officially or unofficially.

Was he officially representing Apple? It doesn't seem like it however Apple will probably argue that he was representing by association - ie people know who he is and who he works for.

Like I said, was he officially representing Apple? No. Was he representing Apple by association? Most likely but as @I7guy said, he's an executive and should be held to a higher standard.

Management at that level should be held to a different standard. Even if he was quoting or paraphrasing a past reference he still should maintain a modicum of decorum. What’s the saying? The medium is the message?
If that were the case then POTUS 45 should have been canned before he even started, or, literally any day during his term.

Whose standard? Is there a defined standard? Does his Apple contract say he can't say "breast" in public? It's ridiculous. It was meant to be funny and not sure how anyone could even really be offended in the first place.

Maybe the fact he was with a large breasted woman showing off cleavage in public is not within Apple's standards? Where does it stop?
