Not convincing. Wallet is smaller and thinner but carries multiple forms of payment such as cash plus debit and credit card(s). Doesn't run out of battery, isn't vulnerable to being dropped with cracked screen and cards can get replaced for free vs having to buy a new pricey phone. Silly to risk dropping phone just to pay for candy so it's just a backup payment method.
Your critique of a commercial missed the most biggest flaw. The guy applied for an Apple Card, was accepted and paid with his new Apple Card which is not possible in that time frame. But the commercial is still convincing and does the job.

I have an Apple Card but only use it to pay for iCloud for the 3% apple discount.

All else I bill to my AMEX card because of better reward value and supplemental coverages which the Apple Card completely lacks.

Other family members use the Costco card for the better cash back on mundane thing and AMEX for bigger ticket items that benefit from supplemental coverages.

I think folks look at this commercial like it’s an exact real time how to. It’s just expressing a reflection of an idea.

Nobody ever looked at This Old House restoration shows like that even though it was just a reflection of some steps in the process.

I didn't time it with a stop watch but when I signed up for an Apple Card it was within minutes (near instant) to get to the point where I could use it. It's been years now so ... I could be off.

FaceID has killed the convenience of ApplePay. With TouchID, all I had to do was place my finger lightly on the home button (without clicking, phone locked) and place it near the terminal reader. The phone automatically woke up, read my fingerprint, opened wallet, and paid with default credit card in less than a second. Now, I have to wake up the phone, place it near the reader, wait for FaceID prompt, tilt or turn the phone back to my face for ID, place it back near the reader, and sometimes click confirmation. If FaceID doesn't get a good read (such as with a mask or while talking, etc), then it's much more involved, with clicking "pay with passcode", double-clicking side button, etc. It's horrible. R.I.P. Home Button and TouchID.
I agree Touch ID is superior than Face ID for Apple Pay. I do miss it. I have Apple Watch so now I use Apple Pay with that instead iPhone cos it much quicker than Face ID. Before my previous iPhone 8 I always use iPhone for Apple Pay instead of Apple Watch cos it just so much easier lol since iPhone always close to my hand and sometimes my sleeves get in way of Apple Watch.

I got one and I have yet to use it. One of the benefits I see with the Apple Card is the 0% financing. An iPhone gets 24 months interest free, and most other purchases qualify for 12 months 0% finance. You can also link your card to Apple Pay. I've also read that you get daily cashback? (I don't know how that works or if I read it correctly).

If you have iCloud or Apple Music pay them with the AC because you gets 3% rebate.

For everything else the cash back % are just average.

For big ticket items, including Mac or iOS etc, you should consider a card with supplemental coverages that extend warranty or protect against breakage etc which the AC doesn’t do at all.

You’re joking, right?
I have never come across a *usable* wallet that’s thinner than any iPhone from the past decade, especially once you fill it with all of your cards and such.
Setting aside your other points (with which I mostly agree), I was curious, so I just measured: my wallet, with everything I need to carry in it, is almost exactly 10mm thick at its thickest point. My iPhone 8, in Apple's silicone case, is 9.5mm thick. So the wallet isn't thinner, but you'd be hard pressed to tell with your fingers which one is thicker. And the wallet is a lot shorter in the longest dimension, compared to the phone. It's all a matter of how much junk you choose to carry in your wallet.

Why is it harder for him to get out his wallet than to get out his iphone? Tapping cards is a thing and I do not need Apple Card or Apple Pay. I do not see the advantage here?

Each time is see this ad I wish I would bought the gold iPhone 13 Pro rather than Sierra blue. Lol.

Maybe it's a Los Angeles thing - most places here didn't take cash for a long time during covid and still discourage it. While I don't live in LA County - my wife works there. Always good to carry around a $20 or two tho.

Whatever works :D

One of the local theme parks has switched over to digital or card payments only. No cash. Permanent policy at all of their parks nationwide now actually, and I think there are other Amusement Park chains that do the same thing. I am not sure what they do in the event all that stops working though.

I hate to admit that QR codes are generally better than NFC solutions. Gives me hope for Bitcoin Lightning, etc.
QR codes aren’t secure though. It’s easy to fake one and send people to other sites with malware or that steal your passwords.

I hate this commercial. I was actually talking to someone about this the other day. They didn't like it either.
Such Karen. Much wow.

I love how your comment is so full of hate but also not content or context ?❤️.

“So me and a friend didn’t like it because… no reason.”

I understand that but why did he need to apply for an Apple Card? He could’ve simply added a card to Apple Pay and had his bank approve it and then use Apple Pay. That is actually possible and useful especially when credit card chip readers don’t work which happens all the time.

You just use the app and it will detect if it's a valid QR code, and don't scan any code outside the cash registers. The security is in the app QR code detection.

No new device needed for reading QR codes. This is important for countries in Asia where people are not that rich.

Watch solves risk of dropping and convenience issues but there's still the battery life issue which is even worse than phone payment. Don't want the hassle of having to charge every day or twice a day. Until that is resolved wallet > phone > watch payment. Another big issue is a lot of small convenience stores don't support phone payment vs cash/card that's 100% reliable.
Garmin pay on a watch that lasts for a month.

95% of Apple products are good???
Actually, if we get slightly serious. Apple ads WERE good when they were the “underdog”. The rebel, the phoenix, the hip, smart, young, fresh and they had a more homogeneous (ie. nerds) user base. Now that they are a household name, they have to be USDA Grade A Prime Groomed Wholesomeness. That’s an over exaggeration, but you get my point. I think IMHO, they’re a bit to slick now. But it’s a very US thing, be edgy to get the customers and then change not to offend the customers you got by being edgy. Let’s hope they don’t slide into Microsoft softness. (Which actually are getting slightly more edgy).

What is the difference between this and the Apple Wallet? When I use Apple Wallet, I can add any credit card and pay through the sensor on the back of the phone, right?
But I've had bad experiences with Apple Wallet in the past, sometimes it doesn't sense, or has trouble sensing correctly.
I guess it might need to sense the right spot on the back of the phone, but sometimes the payment sensors in stores are cluttered or cramped, which makes it even harder to sense.
When you have people in line behind you, it's embarrassing to have the sensor fail and you have to give up and pay with cash or a "real credit card" from your pocketbook.

Pretty cool. I don't remember the process for Apple Card, but I got an Amex card earlier this year and the whole approval process took about 30 sec and it added a card to my Wallet. So yeah, one min total like the commercial. In fact I did buy groceries and used Apple Pay and still got 6% cash back from Amex. I confirmed with Amex that using Apple Pay is no different than using any cc payment system. You still get your cash back in the respective categories.

People love to bag and hate on stuff they don't know. I guess we can't blame them for being skeptical (only natural). But those of us who have used this system really like it and know it works pretty quickly. Agreed. I didn't time my Apple Card application but I'd venture to remember that it was less than a minute. Everything was all filled out already, I just had to hit next, next, next - done.

Not disputing or doubting your experience but you must recall the very many posts from people who applied for the card and were turned down even though they had very good credit scores, others who had transactions denied, monthly payments gone haywire. Many of the issues were due to Apple's choosing the inexperienced Goldman Sachs to handle the finance side of the card operation. Not to mention the dubious ethics on display in recent history by GS. Does the 2008 crash ring a bell?

No worries - understood. My wife was declined too initially. After waiting a month to re-apply she was accepted (lol?). Who knows why, lol. I recently had a relative apply and was declined. This definitely happens - yep.

A lot of places don’t take contactless payment for example the King Scoopers that I regularly goto on accepts chip. They don’t even take tap from cards.

Apple today shared a new ad focused on the Apple Card, highlighting the convenience of having a card-free payment option and the simple sign up process.

In the spot, a man in a store pops a chocolate bar in his mouth before realizing he doesn't have his wallet on him to pay for it. He frantically checks all of his pockets at the checkout while people wait impatiently behind him.

Eventually, he pulls out his iPhone, opens up the Wallet app, and applies for an Apple Card right there in line. He's approved within minutes, and is able to use the Apple Card on his phone for his purchase. "Reboot your credit card," reads the tagline, with additional information available in the video's description.Apple Card is available in the United States only and it is a convenient iPhone-based credit card issued by Apple in partnership with Goldman Sachs. It is linked to Apple Pay and built right into the Wallet app, but it also works like a traditional credit card.

Just shows Apple is for the olds. A zoomer would have just walked out while laughing at the clerk and filming it for a TikTok challenge.

Or how about take on the gang robbery incidents by showing the Apple retail workers trying to sign up the smash and grabbers?

If a dude had taken that long in line in my neighborhood, he’d probably had gotten his ass beat.
