Depending on your area, plus there are many parents who indulge their children and then there is the rare exception of a few who do odd jobs, save allowance and buy something their want. Not judging or anything, not dismissing your observations, just saying if a parent is purchasing a new iPhone 12 Pro Max for their children then there is something going on there, if the child purchased it with their own savings that is another.

A product such as a mobile phones has its pro's and con's it all depends on the individual's responsible usage. Not painting anyone person or group with the same brush.
Valid points and keep in mind, a smartphone for many of todays teens is actually their only computer. A decent Windows laptop or MacBook Pro goes for 1,300 to 1,500 easily; it wouldn't be surprising if a teen forgoes that and goes with a smartphone instead. In fact, some of them do everything on a phone, type documents, browse web, research and selfies too. Also, using allowance and income from odd jobs could easily be their means of buying one. Its just kinda amazing seeing so many young people with such an expensive phone. I remember back in 2007 when the iPhone was launched and heard the price and thinking I would never be able to afford that. At the time, I was still a struggling adult with a flip phone getting support from my brother or mom with my data plan. I guess that's why I'm such a miser these days.

And yet if you brought in your waterlogged, flour caked iPhone in for a warranty repair it would be voided

Isn't it this kind of advert that got them sued in Italy last year ?

Let me know when all their devices front and backs are less prone to breakage. Don’t really feel like whipping out a grand to get a feature a good case can provide.

The content is fun and I get it's meant to be exaggerated and light hearted, but feels a bit disingenuous and misleading. I mean, you shouldn't be leaving your phone in piles of flour, tossing it in the air to catch it, and rinsing it out in the sink. I take the water resistance to mean it's okay if my phone gets a little wet in the rain, not stick it under the kitchen sink. These are still very expensive and moderately fragile items and this ad is misleading.
He was throwing an egg, not the phone.

This video is nice and all but that washing your phone part really hurts my feeling. Because of water resistance I washed my phone on my son’s 3 inches deep kid water fountain station whatever you call it, only to find out my iPhone 10 is water damaged and their Apple customer support wouldn’t repair it for me because their marketing led me to believe the phone is ok to be washed.

Probably would have gone for a more sentimental ad, showing that the guy cooked something for a loved one, and the phone helped him looking up recipes, maybe getting dirty a little, and showing photos of the person he made it for. Show how the phone actually helps the person. End it with hinting that the guy never has tried to cook before.

This just screamed: Hey clutzy demographic, please buy an iPhone because this guy is clutzy and it still works.

I don’t know..every year they claim their glass is x times stronger than before, yet people continue to drop and break their phones as usual.

I wash mine in the sink all the time. It is IP68 rated, e.g. 30 minute at 6 meters depth.

Thats a bummer, was it still new? Water resistance seals tend to fail over time (and are also a good reason to stay away from unauthorized third party repair shops).

I had my X fall into a foot-deep puddle that was out of reach about four months after getting it, it was there for about 3 minutes. No worse for wear.

Let’s see them wash the flower out the lightning port.;)

Lightning was waterproof from the start in 2012. If there's liquid in your charging port and you plug it in the phone does not charge and instructs to dry out the lightning port.

I didn't watch the ad until now, but I have to say it is truly ridiculous. I cook 7 days a week and the vast majority of the time, my iPhone is safely next to my Mac on its desk in my room. Sometimes I have my iPad on the dining table if I want to watch something like a DW documentary or PBS news hour while a safely and cleanly prepare my meal. I use my Apple Watch to set timers for meals that might be in the oven. Listening music while cooking tends to be a distraction. But, whatever this guy is doing in his kitchen looks more like a health and safety hazard.

But this is likely Apple just trying to juice sales a bit by giving users some form of reason to buy a phone and feel like they can use it anywhere. These days, I personally want to get away from my screen. So, when I am in the kitchen, its actually more therapy just to be able to clear my mind and think about something else. The Apple Watch is about all the technology I need to have with me.

Sister in law dropped the i 12 and the thing landed dead. I was LOL while i still have my 11 Pro that i drop all the time. Clearly the quality has gone down the rails.
That’s what you base your conclusion on? Some people die in a car crash, driving the same car while others don’t. It just depends on so many other outside factors

My Mini is the first iPhone since the iPhone 5s that doesn't have a microscratch after just a few days/weeks. And i was never able to tell what caused it.

Got it on launch day and still no scratches.

If the pandemic proves anything is that the iPhone is the not the solution to life’s problems. But people sure are buying the latest version. The amount of kids I see walking around with one is astounding!
I'm still perfectly satisfied with my iPhone 7. There's no reason to have the latest phone nowadays.
