Apple Providing Apple TV+ Subscribers With Three Months of Free Access, Extending Free Trial Subscriptions Through January

Ha. I canceled my free year. Now I can’t get it back. Nor the additional months they were giving away. I wish they would have said something before I did that.🤷🏻‍♂️

Bought an Apple TV 4K recently, it came with a free one year Apple TV+ subscription. Haven't activated it yet, because none of the shows appeal to me.

Not sure how this happened, but I'll take it.

I must have missed the where TV or cable were offered in exchange for a one-time fee.
I’m inclined to agree that software as a service at the current price points can only work for so long except for perhaps key products. As the whole market tries to shift to this model subscriber fatigue is highly likely. At some point there will probably be market rationalisations and buyouts. Competition in big production services can only go so far as tv and movie production has serious costs attached. For the software developers charging large subscriptions for their products I think that has a much shorter shelf life unless your product is absolutely essential, and even then people may start to dump the subs until they have a need to use the product or seek out the cheaper or free alternative that can get the job done.

I cancelled mine a few days ago, but given that in one year I have only seen two episodes of a series and one movie, I think I can live without it. I would never pay for this anyway unless in the distant future they can actually compete with Netflix or any of the other services out there.

Ok, some more time for me to finish the Ted Loose series. I won't pay for ATV+ as long as the current layout is used. Is it an all-you-can-watch platform like Netflix? Or is it a video rental platform? Or a buy-a-video platform? It's mixed-up too much now and I've already had many a discussion with my kid who wants to see a vid which is needs to be bought or rented whereas I only allow my kid to watch the Apple Originals as these are included with the ATV+ subscription. As a result my kid has ditched ATV+ altogether and currently only watches Prime and Netflix (and NPO Start, a Dutch specific service). Fine with me, up to Apple to improve the experience.

Is this deal also on offer to those who bought their iphone in November or December 2019? Or is it only for those who bought their device in the month it was released?

I don't see how it is even legal to not let you have the service until the trial is over like nearly every other service we have. The only one worse is Sirius with the inability to ever cancel. They need a law where you need to be able to cancel everything online without hassle.
That was kind of my thought that I was canceling the renewal. Oh well plenty of other services out there to watch.

You just need to time them and cyclically use them.

damn, this. Have to get into the habit of going in and out of services.
I just accumulate them all, use maybe one at a time when there’s something worthy and keep them there all in the name of “having it ready”. Worst part is with work from home everything has been a bit crazy that the only tv, show, channel, series, etc have managed to watch has been Servant over the last month, a free one (was great by the way).
What a waste of tons of subscriptions active.

I’m already out. Just nothing of real interest that grabs my attention immediately. Quality production and acting all around, but just not my thing. Everything on there feels sanitized or something is being held back - like there’s no personality or humans behind the productions. It feels too Tim.

i hope you are not seriously saying that if someone is trying to decide whether to purchase new Apple hardware that they may be swayed to hand over their money if they get AppleTV+ for free.
My roku stopped working last December, and this is the reason why I bought the Apple TV over another Roku.

Can you tell me what laws are being violated? And the harm people would suffer canceling an unwanted free service?
the harm is loss of enjoyment of life lol :)..........I don't think it's a clear violation of any law but reminiscent of Microsoft's monopolistic moves to package THEIR software into windows....it's a fringe complaint that's for sure...

I seem to have gotten a *full* additional year. My free trial was supposed to expire on November 22, 2020. It now says November 22, 2021.
