I’m wondering if we’ll get any Mini action at all, or just an internal update (something along the specs you’re suggesting) ... or something _extra_ crazy like a full on redesign? (Mini Doughnut ?)

i can see them making it black to match the pro, but would the specs on a mini necessitate the hollowed out fan system? i figured it was because of the vertical stacked nature of the pro's components that required it. just curious if the donut thing is just a meme or something remotely legit

I got my Mac Pro last year so I guess it's time for all you hockey puck mini lovers out thier! Enjoy!

Oh dear, I think I'll skip the first 15 minutes of Mr. Cook monotone voice. He really ruins it. Wish he wasn't onstage.

Wouldn't a new nMP-style Mac mini with a vertical fan system be a lot more silent than the current Mac mini, even allowing better components like a desktop CPU (lower cost) and GPU (better performance)? A bigger, taller Mac mini would also allow the use of regular desktop RAM, which I think is also a bit lower cost than laptop RAM.

Far too many of these, it just leads to a sense of disappointment irrespective of what is launched or more often than not just updated. Just release the updated products rather than the bloated overly self-important badly streamed show.

Lol at the people who constantly complain about the last stream. Just remember how much you actually paid out of your pocket to watch the stream. Oh so many entitled people here. :p

Are you serious? Just because I didnt have to pay i shouldn't have a problem? Wtf? Then why stream anyway, why bother if no one saw it and even can say a word because it was free. This is not how it works pal.

Call me bonkers for not waiting 5 hours, but i just ordered a Mac Mini :D

Honestly that's not bonkers because of what happened to me several years ago. I wanted to buy a Mac mini and I was waiting for an Apple event because I was expecting Apple to refresh the Mac mini as well and when the event was over there was no refresh. So the next day I just ordered the current Mac mini and in my order confirmation it said that it wouldn't ship until next week, which I was confused about. But then one week later after the event Apple refreshed the Mac mini and that was the one Apple shipped to me. So it was awesome, I got the new one even though I ordered the old one, and I'm sure the same would happen to you in this situation. The only problem is, is that I don't expect Apple to update the Mac mini today, not until the Broadwell chips come out next year, but that's just my guess. But Apple's rule is, as long as you buy an Apple product within 14 days of a new one being announced you're good no matter what, because you can always return it and buy the new one.

I simply stated my opinion. If you didn't like it you didn't have to respond....PAL.

If this is real, this is extremely significant.

Well that's what their website looks like now. But the weird thing is the :apple:TV page redesign has been out there since late September, so it's not something they just updated in the last day or so.

this is actually a pretty fair point. these have been getting less and less relevant to their actual products and their brand, really. it's so expected and predictable, it could be to their benefit to 'disappear' for a while (as much as that's possible). it's not at all what it was. spec bumps? um.. ..yeehaw?

edit: not that i'm unimpressed with what apple does each year it's just seems progressively less inspired. getting more confident and wittier onstage isn't really an indication of how much 'better' they get, imo

My question is would that style scale down and still be as silent and efficient? Did Apple reach the limit of efficiency and noise reduction with the MP? I'm personally not a fan of the MP form factor but that's irrelevant to the discussion. I'm more interested in the portion I bolded from your quote. The mini is plenty small and a slight size increase to gain better performance wouldn't bother me in the least. I've never been a fan of smaller/larger just for the sake of aesthetics.

I'm so excited. This is going to be a truly amazing event. I'm off to the shops soon to stock up on goodies for a viewing party I'm hosting. Anyone else hosting one today?

I remember, before live streams over the internet for everyone, when a large group of us would gather at the U of C, who did have access to the a live stream, to watch the SteveNotes projected in a classroom; late '90s, early 2000s, I believe. We would all be cutting various jobs to be there, and more than a few bosses were there with us. It was a great opportunity to connect with the Mac community and a lot of networking happened there.

Hope you have a good event.

Apple updated their :apple:TV page with the new design language in late September. When they did the bottom of the page was updated to say "starting at $99" when it previously just said "$99". Any significance to this?

It certainly suggests a product with a higher price point!

I’d still like to see something that merged an AppleTV with Airport/TimeMachine (at least in terms of having an HDD/SSD) - specifically, integrated storage with a built-in iTunes server, so you could use your AppleTV as a centralized “NAS-ish” device, plus serve up content to other devices like iPads (vs. having to run iTunes on a full computer, or only streaming).

I think most people are suggesting it just as an aesthetic consideration, since like you indicated, it’s not really needed functionally.

I’d _love_ to see the Mini offered in the Pro case, but I think cost, and ultimately, that form factor would work against it (I think people like the rack/component size of the Mini, so it kind of disappears).

I guess we will know in about an hour :) (or we’ll know, that we won’t know ... :D )

For those of us who can't watch the stream at work, where's the best place to follow the updates live? It doesn't seem like Apple will be doing it from their website like they did with the iPhone announcement..

I've got the good fortune to be watching this at work.
