I'm trying to wait for the New New Mac Pro, but I have been pricing out components to build a new PC if they either continue to delay or screw it up.

Hopefully this is a signal that they are about to announce new display and new Mac Pros. At least I'll know if they over engineered what should be an easy sell; A modern modular machine in a single case.

I’m hoping for this too, but I’m not sure what to expect. They keep saying “modular” which makes me worry it’ll be a set of interchangeable Apple modules, not user-upgradability with third-party parts. I hope they resolve their issues with Nvidia (they seemed to fix their spat with Qualcomm, which gives me a bit of hope). I think Apple is way more likely to screw up the new Mac Pro than the display.

Sorry but this is the dumbest comment ever!
Some people watch a ton of tech tubers and is their sole form of "reliable" input, if it can't do 8K RED RAW etc etc it must be trash to the average consumer because.... this is what we all do right.

We do live in a place where many people can not or will not make their own decision so they base it around another individuals personal opinion and not do what works for them.

Frightened of confrontation and decision making.

The pace of technology that 5k is now considered 'traditional.' Well hopefully they will come down in price further.

I wish. But instead retina monitors are still extremely rare. Even the LG one is hard to find and still costs as much as three years ago.
Sadly, most of the monitor industry is either cheap low resolution office displays or gaming displays that focus on refresh rate instead of resolution.

I thought maybe after Apple had solved whatever manufacturing issues surrounded the 5k iMac at it's introduction there would be a 5k Thunderbolt display coming shortly. It never materialized.

Now there is talk of a new display type altogether and if past is prologue they will launch a new 4k/5k iMac with fancy display and also a new Thunderbolt Display alongside them.

And the shipment estimates on all of them will be 4-6 months for the first twelve months they are available because of course they decided on a technology that's difficult to produce at scale but, hey, Superfluid MicroMini LED Retina Display, ammirite?? And the bezels, they are thinnnnerrrrrrrrr!!!

updated iMacs are coming Fall the earliest. They've just been updated so it will be a while.
I would love Fall but I think it may not materialize as they might be really waiting for the ARM chips. Who knows but new iMacs will either be fall or sometime next year :)

The LG monitors had issues in the beginning that need to be patched/fixed. I’m sure Apple wasn’t too happy about that. Apple probably thought LG can do a good job, but didn’t. So Apple decided to go back making their own monitors again.

Hopefully this trend continues into software with the revival of Aperture. Somebody needs to give Adobe some competition.

I don’t know about the quality of the display, but the housing is terrible, cheap creaky plastic that felt awful to the touch when adjusting them. Looks horrible from the back too. I wouldn’t want that sitting on my desk unless I had to.

32-inch monitors are too big. You have to sit further away from them.

Nah, I have a 32” monitor sitting on my desk. I sit the same distance from it as I do my 21” iMac. I’d really like a 40” display. It’s not like anything is bigger on it, it allows more items to be seen at once. Now a full screen picture or movie I might want to sit back from to get the proper perspective, but that’s not how I use mine mostly.

Well if they’re moving to ARM, it’ll be a while before the update. Intel’s not releasing new desktop-class CPUs soon (the 9-series is pretty recent; I’d guess Intel chips are probably a Q4 2019 release) so I’d be very very surprised if we see new iMacs before next spring at the earliest.

That has always been Apple’s target audience.

The Dells are nice screens..

I just wish they would up their game with industrial design and maybe make their branding a little less prominent.

I’m probably alone on this but the Dell brand is just one that doesn’t do much for me in 2019. The idea of staring at their logo all the time just sort of turns me off for some reason.

Mind you this opinion goes all the way back to the late 90s

I have one and I love it. It’s perfect for graphic designers. No other 4K monitor on the market can even compare to its image quality. I got a good price for it so no complaints.

Yep! Although, they could do fall redesign with better GPUs etc. as the update that just happened was really weak and didn't really warrant the wait time so I'm inclined to believe that it was just a bridge update before we get redesign (possibly 31.5) with better GPUs and some other goodies.
Otherwise, if we are going to ARM next then I doubt we will see ARM before WWDC2020.

Most Apple computers don't even have the processing power or ram to even edit 4k video so I don't even know why they are pushing 4k monitors.
Apple is "pushing" 4K ( and up ) displays because there is a large market for consumption of 4K video.

Viewing 4K requires a 4K display. And Im pretty sure most people purchase displays for viewing not production.

I miss the days when you could pair a matching aluminum Mac mini and an 23" Cinema display for relatively cheap.

I suspect Apple won't give us a cheaper alternative to this 6K behemoth of a display.
It'll be 31" or go buy an 27" iMac.

with today's offering of 4k ips 27 inch for 400-500 bucks, like my dell p2715q, it's a real hard pill to swallow to even consider apple lg's 5k price tag,

I am in the market for a 4K and I couldn't help but notice Apple will still selling these really old displays at those prices. I think it hurts Apple as a business. Their business practices me me feel that they are unethical and behind the times.
