I can only hope the Apple new displays and Mac Pro are finally around the corner. Maybe at WWDC. About damn time.

The AirPower Pro will not launch before December. I’d bet money on it.

The new one looks, infinitely, leagues better than the prior one supposedly 'designed in partnership with Apple'.

Perhaps that's why - they did better on their own, and Apple has no obligation to sell either.

Those LG bases are cheap plastic trash. That goes for all their 4K line and up. I tossed mine in the trash the moment it arrived and mounted on a post VESA bracket. The stand that Apple required was leagues ahead of these cheap curved trash by LG.

Remember when Apple used to sell high quality displays and high quality computers to drive them?

Yeah... Laser printers, too. Smart move getting out of those back then as well as displays today.

All of my current Apple computers are outstanding. My two cheese grater Mac Pros had failures. But that was when Apple was under different leadership.

I love my LG 4K. It's a perfect match for my MacBook Pro.

No adapters, it charges when I'm connected, the image quality is amazing, it's the only monitor I've seen that equals the quality of a Retina display.

They are expensive MSRP but I bought mine used but in like-new condition. If I found a deal on a 5K I wouldn't hesitate one bit.

Pretty sure that not even true. I’ve seen people editing 4K video on a MacBook Air. It just took a bit longer to encode.
You can edit 4K on the little MacBook.

Quickly? No. Preferably? No. But you can do it.

The biggest insult with Apple and 4K, at least in my opinion, is you can't watch 4K movies from iTunes on your 4 or 5K iMac.

Most Apple computers don't even have the processing power or ram to even edit 4k video so I don't even know why they are pushing 4k monitors.
They're pushing 5K monitors and soon 6k. Meanwhile, I've been editing native 6k Red footage for years now on my iMac. I wish you were around sooner to bring me back down to Earth.

I located a 5K refurb at Adorama (or maybe it was B&H)---less than a grand and it works just fine.

Can someone please tell me if this monitor is too much for a base MacBook Air 2018. I've never bought an external monitor for a laptop before. Thanks for any advice.

Dell UltraSharp 32 4K USB-C Monitor: U3219Q
Should be fine. From Apple.com:
  1. Up to four 4K displays or two 5K displays with iMac Pro and 15-inch MacBook Pro; up to three 4K displays or one 5K display with Mac mini; up to two 4K displays or one 5K display with iMac, MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro; one 4K display with MacBook.

What a fitting picture you have for your Avatar, considering the ridiculousness of your post. You should Tweet this.

Oh wow...a straw-man argument. That gets an E for effort.

Must have been before Tim was CEO. He hates Macs.

He doesn't even know what a computer is for or why anyone would use one. And he's so proud of those facts he takes out TV ads to brag about his ignorance. What a brilliant choice for a tech CEO.

Your 4k TV doesn't have the processing power to edit a black & white photo better throw it and all the other displays out too

We do live in a place where many people can not or will not make their own decision so they base it around another individuals personal opinion and not do what works for them.
You just described what's wrong with the world today, and also my rage-trigger. When someone argues an opinion they just borrowed from someone else as if it was the absolute truth. Life experience or education be damned.

For those of us who've been in the game a long time, all of these monitors are a comparative bargain. The last Apple monitor I purchased cost me around $2500. It was the 30" Cinema Display. It was beautiful and awesome for its time and still coveted enough to fetch me around $400 when I sold it last year. It was easy for me to give it up because I jumped on the introductory deal on the 5K's at $999. I would gladly pick up another 5K at full price if I needed it.

32-inch monitors are too big. You have to sit further away from them.
Monitors are not meant to be viewed all at once, like watching movies or something. I use to have a 47" monitor and my only issue was the low resolution. When you have 9000 panels open, you can never have enough screen size.

Hopefully this trend continues into software with the revival of Aperture. Somebody needs to give Adobe some competition.

Aperture ain't comin back. It was good for its day, but Apple was right to move on. The photo editor/digital asset management software space is as crowded as can be. Just among the reputable options alone, there are over a dozen. I'm glad Apple forced me to move on. I'm so much better off as a Capture One Pro user.

Just something else they are going to ruin. After they ruined their own stand alone displays. Apple in 2019 is utterly ludicrous.

Most likely, about a quarter of a BILLION people this year will disagree with you as they happily purchase an Apple product.

Then why have they sold more Macs under Tim then ever before. How come in the past year Apple has come out with new MacBook Pros, iMac Pro, iMacs, Mini?

If Apple is pulling products that are three years old, why does it not pull the MacPro which is six years old?
