I think Tim probably saw it and realized the price was awfully low…

“Pull it!”
“We gotta get that replaced with something more expensive”

It wasn't low. I picked a 4K up refurb for $200, that was great. $700? No way. The 5K was even worse, $1300? You can get the exact same displays with a computer for $500 more.

I am in the market for a 4K and I couldn't help but notice Apple will still selling these really old displays at those prices. I think it hurts Apple as a business. Their business practices me me feel that they are unethical and behind the times.

The monitors are overpriced, but they aren't "old". Go try to find another external display that has wide color gamut, high DPI, IPS viewing angles and high brightness. You can't, no matter how much you pay. Even the professional ones from EIZO are missing one attribute, usually resolution. The PC market is all about numbers, so huge sizes, low DPI, poor TN viewing angles, and barely sRGB are what you get with the 4K monitors available.

The 4K is also unique in that it has extra pixels: it's 16:9 like UHD but can fully fit a real DCI 4K image without scaling. The rest of the "4K" monitors aren't even 4K, they're 3.8k.

I can only hope the Apple new displays and Mac Pro are finally around the corner. Maybe at WWDC. About damn time.

I reckon this is why Apple pulled the LG display. Shame, its looked good. But Apple has a history of making 'extinct' more that a few year old products.

What I am looking for is a 34" or better 21:9 monitor to combine the best parts of an 85 Watt charging capable Thunderbolt 3 docking station with an integrated USB Hub for perpherals, an ethernet interface along with excellent display quality and performance. For some reason, only LG offers this right now so there is little incentive for the price to drop to an acceptable level for better quality and reliability than LG has been able to deliver. Waiting

The Dells are nice screens..

I just wish they would up their game with industrial design and maybe make their branding a little less prominent.

I’m probably alone on this but the Dell brand is just one that doesn’t do much for me in 2019. The idea of staring at their logo all the time just sort of turns me off for some reason.

Mind you this opinion goes all the way back to the late 90s

mheh

I just noticed the logos on my two side-by-sides (now that you mentioned it), and I've been starin' into 'em for two years, now ;)

Regards, splifingate

Not that I'll be affording it soon, but I'd love a 30"+ Apple display. Had a 30" ACD for years until I downsized to a 27" 5k iMac. It's nice to have that bit of extra space of app palettes and really great for movies.

Well, Apple Master, you must know that RAM is configurable at point of purchase.
yes for a kidney, lol
mean while you can buy a pc and upgrade the ram when ever you want, not just when you first buy your mac

apple do this because they probably still soldering component, why can’t the person upgrade later? because the person bought a mac

Exactly, because computers only use-case is editing 4k video, computers are not used for anything else
computer are for many things but also to do 4k video, since we are here, also for gaming but mr cook doesn’t want mac users to game on macs because it seems that mac are only for high class people and education and gaming is a distraction for students, please mr cook give me a break, adults also use macs and adults also do gaming, mr cook has no excuse, oh wait , macs are using AMD because he doesn’t want macs with nvidia cards, maybe he thinks that macs are not for gaming, install w10 in bootcamp and use an egpu lol

The 21" 4k has got to be one of the best 21" ever made. Try to find a 21" with 400nits brightness. They all are 250nits. 24" goes up to 300nits. Not that you need this, but nonetheless, it's desirable for some people. Also, there's the USB-C system.

I bought mine for $400. $700 is way over the top.

Some people don't like the retro design. I can see that, but I like it. Not a big deal.

Sorry but this is the dumbest comment ever!
why is dumb? yes many macs can render or encode 4k videos extremely slow, unless you have a imac pro, why you think many users are waiting for a mac pro, also putting 5400 rpm old hard drivers on new computers it doesn’t help their case either

My 2014 iMac edits 4K video without breaking a sweat. In any case, what does that have to do with monitor resolution?
hi sorry i know you were talking to the other user but i had this kind of conversation before, there is one big point that people seem to miss about resolution and that is the bit rate, i had a friend that told me that he can play 4k videos on his computer, yes 4k is the resolution but he was using the lowest bit rate setting available, i gave him one of my phantom 4 pro 4k that i encoded with the highest bit rate available and his computer choked to death, we even switch to a better player and still the same results, then he said that my file was probably damage , so he came to my house and tested the file that i gave him using my computer and it plays perfectly fine, the answer is simple, my pc has more horse power and it can play a 4k video at the highest bit rate available, the higher the bit rate the better the video is going to look, yes the file size will also be bigger, but i only care about the best quality, many stream services use compression in order to make the file smaller, yes the video still look good but it will not look better than one that has a higher bit rate, also the higher the bit rate the longer it will take to encode, regards
