This is Pro device for God's sake. Sold as a pro device that could replace a laptop. It is sold as a device that can change a professional's workflow. If I were a professional who's adapting to the new workflow and suddenly everything is gone because I am doing exactly what apple suggests (update your device), I would be so furious that you have no idea.
If you release a Pro device it has to be perfect. Always.

Nothing will ever be "perfect always," but yes Apple should have caught this before release, and pulled it sooner even after it did slip through.

Exactly. Every Pro device I've ever gotten from every other company has been perfect. /s

This concerns me since I have the 9.7 Pro and I do not have an issue. Is it possible that I somehow I get a knockoff from China. It has the rose gold color though so I think it must be real.

Of course, for those for whom it downloaded but has not yet installed, we are still getting the daily prompts. I got my replacement device within a day, but it downloaded the update while it was connected to Wi-Fi. I haven't dared install it yet.

You can delete the update to stop the prompt from popping up. Settings --> Storage & iCloud Usage --> Manage Storage. The update should be in the list of apps, select it and delete it.

Not everyone is having the issue.

Odds are it was swapped out at Foxconn for a fake. Have you brought it to the Apple store to voice your concerns?

Not all 9.7-inch iPad Pro models were affected. A lot of people were able to install iOS 9.3.2 on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro just fine.

Did Apple snag the Windows Vista QA team? Stuff like this makes you wonder why you paid more for the shiny Apple logo.

That said. Stuff like this happens to all kinds of companies. Apple is not immune. They need to tighten the ship a bit when it comes to software. Apple should have it easier than Google or Microsoft - there's only so many combinations of their hardware to test against, and you would think they would prioritize their newest products!

"This issue affects a small number of users"

I think it's pretty clear that the reputation that Apple once had for stable software releases is sinking.
Meaning that that statement isn't true somehow?

We're not talking about "every other company". This is Apple, known for being reliable. Microsoft is the blue screen company, Apple is the "I pay 25% more, but it just works" company.

25% more tells me you're getting screwed by somebody. Where I'm from, the devices aren't 25% more than comparable products.

Now make sure that you only compliment Apple on this error, otherwise you're branded as an Android-loving anti-Apple forum troll. No disappointment allowed with the recurring updates straight from the manufacturer that bricks people's stock iPads.
What's this about again?

My girlfriends iPhone 5 was "bricked" by he 9.3.2 OTA update as well. I put it in quote as it wasn't really COMPLETELY bricked, but she needed my help and Mac to restore 9.3.2 onto it and she lost photos she took since the last backup.

So it's not just iPad pros. Has anyone else had a device wedged by this update?

Yes. I was just about to update my post. Go into Settings>General>Storage & iCloud Usage. You will see the iOS 9.3.2 update listed in the downloads (it was about 250MB). You can tap on it and delete it. After you do that, System Update will confirm 9.3.1 is the most up to date.
Settings > General > Storage and iCloud Useage > Manage Storage

You should see it on the list.

Awesome, thanks so much.

How does this stuff slip past QA?
The specific set of circumstances that trigger this not being represented in their testing pool, including their public beta testing pool? I would expect that their public beta pool is pretty large, something hard to top with internal testing.

Maybe their testing procedures overlooked something that could have been included without increasing the testing pool significantly. But I rather think that fighting the underlying reason is an approach that is more likely to reduce such instances. That could start with having better programmers and better programming 'methods' that are able to predict and thus prevent circumstance that could result in such a failure. Maybe even the staggered release should be reconsidered, ie, if the 9.7" and 12.9" iPad Pro had been completely co-developed (and thus be as identical as possible internally) then it would be less likely that a bug affects only one of them (and if it affects both models, preventing and detecting it is easier).

This is EXACTLY why we should be able to block automatic updates.
My phone downloaded an update and it annoyed me as I have every setting I can think of set to NOT do that. Deleted it a couple of times and it happened again. So I left it this time.
Then it told me it would install in the middle of the night and I’m pretty sure I declined that too. Now guess what the update has taken effect - don’t know exactly when. Now in this instance it was fine but………...
I swore you can block automatic updates..

The ultimate PC replacement my ass.

No, it really is. 9.3.2 is proof. Win users will feel right at home with botched updates. :D

Seriously, this seems to affect a very small sample of Pro 9.7 users, of which is probably the smallest user base of all iPad users given it's only a couple months old and it's price disuaded a lot of people (like me) from buying until it went on sale (which it currently is). That does make real life beta testing more difficult. I'm not excusing Apple here, esp. their reaction (and inaction) after the bricking became news, but I understand the situation. They made good and replaced bricked units at well. It would have been a bit less understandable if it had happened with an older, more widely distributed model.

That said I am glad Apple finally shut off the spigot because I was getting annoyed with the popups asking if I wanted to update.

There's the update having something that's causing some issues, and then there's any update occasionally running into some installation weirdness and not working/finishing properly. Similar although different issues as the latter can and does happen here and there with pretty much any update/installation on pretty much any device (beyond iPhones or even Apple).

You know perfectly what I mean.

Yes, you mean that you have unreasonable expectations for any company. Just because it's Apple doesn't mean there won't be problems. The sooner you get used to the idea the better. This isn't something new, either. Apple has never been a perfect company, and they never will be.

You can delete the downloaded update from Storage & iCloud Usage...

"Settings -> General -> Storage & iCloud Usage -> Under Storage -> Manage Storage"

It will be the first entry in the Apps list.
