Bad move. I need Lion for an old Mac Mini that I use as a server, since newer OS X versions don't run on the hardware. Looks like I'm screwed if I ever need to reinstall it. What did I pay for, Apple?

Just so you know, you can just use the recovery feature in the firmware to install Lion.... Not all hope is lost.

hehe. "temporary bug"

I love MR's reporting, however i'm not sure how true that is..

On the other side, it's a way to say "we will keep you using the latest OS only because we can still say "Mac's are secure" as well from that standpoint"

Either way its wrong. users should have a choice... But Apple and their security with forcing users to run newer versions if we pull it from something they got... lucky no one paid for it otherwise u'd really get an out-cry ...

Interestingly, I just visited this very location and neither of these are in the list of available downloads. Now, I'm at the very lowest (as in freebie) level of developerhood, so perhaps I'm not seeing these because I don't have enough developer mojo (or something). Anyone else see these as available downloads?

I made some screen snapshots for what you should see (after you change the + toggle to -):

Also magically my lion, mountain lion and mavericks have reappeared in my purchases tab.

Seems apple might have read this thread and gone "Oh no. Now they'll get them with torrents. We better put them back!"

Sigh. I know you mean well, but, seriously, I'm getting fed up with people telling me why I don't need to be able to access the product I paid for. :(

And no, I cannot just use the recovery feature in the firmware since this Mac does not support Internet recovery. And even if it did, it would not let me recover Lion because it originally came with either Leopard or Snow Leopard (don't remember which).

Now that Lion is once again available, download the installer, and archive it locally. (Along with any other software you may need in the future.)

Like many people I was frustrated by Apple abandoning us loyal Aperture users. It wasn't that we think Apple owes us anything but simply not what we had come to expect from Apple - we had put our trust in Apple, we accepted that Aperture was behind Lightroom but we all thought there's no way Apple would stab us in the back and leave us stranded with no way to access our old library. And then they did that - perhaps the first time it really was true when people said "it wouldn't have happened under Jobs". But it must be far harder for Cook to resist the bean counters, whereas Jobs could and did tell them to get lost.

And now this, as someone else wrote, a dick move of the highest order. And it will be counter-productive. Apple has had a lot of success in getting people to accept the idea of buying their software via the App Store. Some of us spent a fair sum to acquire Aperture. This has been a real strength for Apple, especially regarding operating systems. And something that Microsoft for example has struggled with because people don't trust them to not pull such stunts. So what does Apple do? Betray that trust by pulling just such a stunt. So now we have to second guess which bit of software Apple will suddenly and without warning, despite knowing that many people use and need it, pull and make unavailable. That was precisely the type of thing I got sick of from Microsoft and one of the reasons I embraced Apple.

This was a glitch. All of the apps and OSes are back, as has been stated in the several posts above yours.

I purchased 10.7 at the beginning of the summer(to upgrade my Blackbook-the last OS it supports) and recently purchased 10.8 to attempt a "hack" on a couple of other unsupported machines.

10.9 remains my primary OS.

I'm just glad that I-quite literally-have every version of OS X on hand. 10.6 and older are on physical media(which I've imaged and stored on a Firewire HDD) while the .app installer is both on my main computer and on that same backup HDD.

I have USB keys for 10.7 and newer, although I have to double check these before using them as I've often messed with them to get them to install on unsupported Macs(i.e. 10.9 on my Mac Pro 1,1). Even so, I like having "clean" installs in the case of a hard drive failure or something else like that.

And, all of that said, I'm still really irritated that I now can't re-downloaded software I bought a month ago(in the case of Mountain Lion). I'd be even more upset if I'd bought Aperture, although fortunately I transitioned to Lightroom(Adobe is the lesser of two evils at this point when it comes to that type of software-I bought Lightroom 6 rather than subscribing to Creative Cloud).

Seems we are ALL a bunch of idiots...

You can easily download most of the apps discussed here, simply by unhiding the purchases in the App Store; https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202320

It worked for me, and now I have access to Aperture, Mavericks, and Lion, just like before:)

Well, it didn't work for me, so it's either a temporary issue, or a permanent setting that is propagating through the users' Apple ID accounts…

Well, they are all back now. This is ridiculous… Do you reckon they were actually following the thread or getting a barrage of angry e-mails like mine and acted immediately? Without even an official statement?

I've just checked the Apple System Status page, and there are no reported issues. I think we should contact support and send them some direct feedback. That way, they *have* to acknowledge it and come clean. I mean, if they are smart enough, they should do so regardless, but we might as well give them a hand. :p

It's possible it was actually a glitch, but it also might have been them testing to see if they can get away with it and going back based on negative reactions to it.

Which is monumentally stupid, as trust is something very, very fragile and hard to regain. The only way they could “get away with it” in either case would involve coming clean, IMHO. Better be upfront about it than crafty.

I am aware that if they did it on purpose, they could always lie and plead incompetence, but at least they would address the issue…

Yeah, even though they came back it still makes me wary about buying digital downloads, although I'm sure I'll get over it after a while for the sake of convenience. I'm assuming there is DRM on the apps, if apple in the future decides to stop supporting old apps could that keep us from using our old software even if we archive it ourselves?
