The definition from Wikipedia is basically an anecdotal opinion, and your opinion is based on that.

Rogifan made a good point and I refuse to give a definition because it’s immaterial. Apple is under no obligation, to provide the means or methods for user reviews.

If Apple engages in abridging one first amendment rights there would be a lot less negative posts about Apple in this website. Case closed.
Realistically speaking, the First Amendment (to US Constitution) isn't something that's there in relation to private enterprises/organizations anyway.

You can do that with Amazon, but not so much with products that are available for purchase in all kinds of places besides the Apple Store website. If I walk into a Best Buy and pick up an iPad, is that going to show up as "verified" somehow? How about an Apple lightning to headphone adapter I pick up at an airport?

Each store can have their own verified purchase. No reason why amazon should be the exception. If you buy with Best Buy's website you should be verified on Best Buy's reviews.

Only a matter of time before the "support" forums gets eliminated as well.
Nah, those have been heavily moderated since LOONG ago. Back when Apple’s was the only major forum that moderated, other companies were on the “You have to let users information go unmoderated!!”
‘Course, now everyone knows that “no-moderation” equals edgelording and p***s pics so there are no forums that aren’t moderated anymore. :)

Not at all impressed with the Apple product lineup for the holidays. Apple TV+ a total bomb. I've watched maybe two hours on my free one year trial.

A shady move from Apple! Even though AirPods are fantastic, for example, they had a rating of under 4 of 5. I feel that a lot of products were bashed by reviews, but Apple should keep reviews public. Constructive criticism helps to improve future products overall.
And when it is not constructive criticism but bashing?

Begining to lose patience with Apple. we have the right to say if we dislike a product!. but all Tim clearly thinks about is the money in his wallet.
I really cannot believe that a multi billionaire thinks about the money in his wallet when making decisions.
I’d be surprised if this was a decision where the ceo was at all involved.
Btw Cook made apple so rich and powerful, Steve Jobs wouldn’t have dared to dream that far. Still he represents the Apple that Jobs wanted since he was promoted by Jobs for years.

They can run but they cannot hide...

True...

They are pretty vocal about how they don't support external stuff in Government, but they no problem liming users by doing this with reviews..

When will it end. If Tim was all about freedom of speech, this is anything BUT.

Nobody is limiting anything. Is Apple stopping anybody from posting reviews about its’ products? Why is it that Apple must pay for the website so that users can leave a review?

Apple didn't do away with all reviews everywhere, they only removed reviews on their website. You know, the website that they themselves pay for and maintain? The one they themselves are in control of? Yeah, that one.. that one website. The internet is filled with other options to leave a review - specifically the sales outlets which sell Apple products.

I know it makes you feel better to place blame, but.. stop it. Placing blame serves no purpose in this case because it doesn't really solve a problem. Does it bruise something within your mind or heart? Maybe you should remove that "something" so it can no longer control you and destroy your happiness.

Majority people that bash Apple don’t even use Apple products, they are just so bored to death with android and windows and when people are jealous it brings out the worst, it actually humorous some of these people that are mad that they can’t leave phony reviews any more when they should be complaining to google about the lack of adding any features to android and barely trying to make it secure,
Just a bunch of upset android people that’s all. I guess I would be pissed too if I used one of those android devices

Calm down with the white knighting, no one’s forcing Apple to do anything.

The fact is that if their products were getting good reviews Apple would gladly pay for the hosting.

Glad we agree there’s nothing to calm down about.

The fact is that if their products were getting good reviews Apple would gladly pay for the hosting.
It’s not about good reviews or bad reviews. It’s about fake reviews. Not to mention you don’t know what Apple would or would not do.

Well, Apple would probably have removed reviews for their products from all web sites but they can't for they don't own them. So, the one only website that they do own - they pulled the reviews from it. In other words, they pulled reviews for their own products from all the websites where they could do it. Surely it's the sign of confidence.

What it is, is a sign of confidence they believe some of the reviews were fake. With 85B projected next nobody is gonna care about this, except those with a vested interest for criticizing Apple.

I gave my definition which is the one from Wikipedia. If you want to call that strange so be it. You're the one that will not actually provide a definition and you and Rogifan keep moving the bar around without a definition.

And yes, by that definition, Apple, and every other American company, do engage in the practice to the maximum their clout allows, and Apple has a lot of clout. That however, is not what we're talking about on this thread. We're talking about this particular action of Apple's, removing reviews being censorship.

So, once again, what definition of censorship are you using? I gave mine and I'm consistent with it. You're using the term in a wishy-washy way where you keep changing what you think it means.

Censorship isn't something so silly as removing reviews on a single site. Those reviews can be re-established on other sites where Apple has no control whatsoever. Censorship is the ability to control speech. Apple cannot control speech. Speech continues elsewhere. Are you under the impression that speech regarding products Apple sells is only allowed on Apple's site? It simply is not. My voice, yours, others can freely be read and heard in many different avenues where Apple doesn't have control and they don't try to. And so this is not censorship. Period.

What it is, is a sign of confidence they believe some of the reviews were fake. With 85B projected next nobody is gonna care about this, except those with a vested interest for criticizing Apple.

Amazon routinely removes fake reviews. Use fakespot.com and you will see the amount of deception being used on so many products Amazon sells and they are primarily positive reviews being used to drive people to buy products. Amazon's review system cannot be trusted. It is no surprise, to me, that Apple doesn't want to deal with that kind of nonsense.

That's because most of their accessories are overpriced and don't last. (I'm looking at you Apple cables, chargers etc).

If that's the case, it shouldn't be hard for Apple to delete any review that was posted for a product prior to its release date.
Surr, but that doesn’t solve the problem. It’s not just that people post fake reviews ahead of a release date, it’s that they post fake reviews as evidenced by reviews posted ahead of release dates.

It’s not about good reviews or bad reviews. It’s about fake reviews. Not to mention you don’t know what Apple would or would not do.

In fairness, you don’t know the reason any more than anyone else here. Who knows, it may be temporary as they work out a different way of handling reviews. But if the reviews for gone for good, then I’m disappointed. Kinda like throwing the baby out with the bath water so to speak. But yes, it’s their site and they have the right to do so.
