I don't put much value in written reviews anyway. Positive reviews can be purchased and negative reviews are often written by people who suffer from molehills-into-mountains syndrome. This is why I like being able to actually see the product in person, whether at a store or one that is used by a friend or family member.
 
I have never had an Apple cable fail on me in 10 years.Most of the failures are down to the users mis handling them.

Me, on the other hand: 3 cables in 6 years for my MBP (and these are expensive ones). And I don't even know how many charging cables I had for my iPhones. And believe me - I take such a good care of all my stuff that I get laughed at by my friends. Every Apple product I own is protected by glass/gelaskin/cover/screen protector etc. from the day one. I carefully handle all the cables and store them properly.
The bottom line is that their cables really aren't such a good quality as one would expect from Apple.
 
My guess is they are testing a new inline reviewing system

Even if they are testing a new review system, why does that mean all historical data must be removed? People, including myself rely heavily on these reviews. Anyone who is being thorough can wade through the reviews and come to a general conclusion, after discarding those that appear to be posted by haters and those posted by fanboys, about the quality and reliability of the product.
 
Not I, in 12 years. I guess I’m lucky.

I have a 2011 MBP and I had 2 magsafe adapters for it. They lasted into 2018 which I can't really complain about. The one I bought for $100 (CDN) last year to replace it is already failing under the same usage conditions, so I'm going to buy a Chinese knock-off. It can't be any worse built than the 2018 one was.

I also have a 2017 MBP, the USB-C charging cable has already failed a few months ago but at least since it's no longer integrated into the power brick, it was *only* $25 to replace. I was wondering at the time if the lower build quality is the reason they no longer integrate the cable into the brick.

And the reason I'm keeping the 2011 in use is it's actually the better performing machine. It's more responsive and just does things faster (under Yosemite with an SSD and 16 gig of RAM) than the 2017 under Mojave.

Always found it odd how most all Apple products had such horrible reviews on Apple's own site, but far more review and far more positive on Amazon and other places. Always assumed most people don't review on Apple.com except mostly people targeting the brand. I can undertand where they are coming from since if a product only has 300 reviews and it's been sold millions and millions of times, and people continue to praise it but the limited site reviews are negative, then that's not helping anyone. I've seen the same issues with Apple's Books reviews vs Amazon Books, (same books get far worse ratings on Apple Books for the content of the book). Hopefully Apple figures out a way of dealing with that by better highlighting reviews from verified buyers, or getting more customers to review. Not having reviews at all isn't great though, because there are real people with real issues also writing reviews that won't be available now, at least for products taht only sold at Apple.

I think we have to give Apple huge credit for not censoring the negative reviews and keeping the positive ones visible. By sweeping all of the noise away, they are taking a fair and reasonable response. I have no problem if this is a final decision to eliminate comments.

What’s really sad is we’ve lost the ONLY place where reviews of Apple’s products can be found. There is literally NO OTHER PLACE ON THE INTERNET, definitely not a place quickly found by a Google search, where you can find information about Apple’s products. This is truly the loss of an incredibly valuable resource which we’ll likely never see another website quite like it :( Have an issue with an Apple product? TOUGH! Now there’s no place... like maybe a forum for instance, where people can be suitably warned!

It's funny how when an Apple product has bad reviews, Apple lovers would say those reviews were written by Apple haters. Because of course, Apple would never make a bad product or overcharge for it. SMH.
If you have any criticism of Apple, even if warranted, they still call you a hater, already happened prior to this post on this very article.

Honestly, most of the reviews are people complaining about nothing, and I'm not just saying that because I'm an Apple "fanboy" or something, it's the same thing on the Microsoft website too.

They're like, "This device is 0.01g heavier than advertised... 1 star!!"
 
If they’re worried about Apple haters that haven’t even bought a product Then maybe a better approach would be to only allow reviews from verified purchasers (those people who bought the product through the apple website or in a physical Apple store)

but beyond that, as a consumer it makes me much less likely to buy any 3rd party products through their site. And if they don’t have a special deal or something then even Apple branded products I’d likely buy online from other sources.

Exactly. This is the sheer genius that gets Timmy the big bucks. In one fell swoop he has cut off every possible venue for negative commentary on Apple products.

Someone should start a forum like you describe. Maybe we can call it AppleRumors or iPhoneRumors. I'm sure somebody will come up with an idea. I just hope it covers more Apple products than TV+.

You misunderstand! They've never seen that happen before to YOUR cable, case, and charger.

Since the integrity (and agenda) of the reviewers, these days, regardless of the company or product, is questionable at best, I can see why a company might take this approach. There are multitudes of venues for product reviews online, so it's not as though Apple product reviews by customers are no longer available.

If a company, in this case Apple, produces a quality product, the vast majority of the reviews will be overwhelmingly positive. As consumers, we are all aware that any review could be biased and you have you use discretion when reading the reviews. If you take the time to read through all of the reviews, both positive and negative, you should be able to determine the quality and reliability of a product. You are right that there are other venues for product reviews and most of us rely on these additional sources to determine if our conclusion about a product from the original source is actually reliable. If you have nothing to hide as a company and if you believe in your products, why remove a long standing and valuable method by which the general public can comment on your products?

I'd actually be surprised if any Apple products actually were 0.01g heavier than advertised. I take your point though; the only decent way to use review sites is to ignore the total star rating counts and read the reviews.

On the flip side, it's amazing how many Amazon reviews are along the lines of "The package sure got here fast, I haven't opened the box yet, but 5-stars."

When my iPad 1 30-pin cable failed, I took it to the Apple store. The employee didn't test the cable or ask for any paperwork or even check who I was. They took a brand new one off the shelf, opened it, handed me the cable and threw mine in a return pile with the new packaging.

The Apple experience has transformed immensely for the worse in the past 8 years.

I don't think Apple wrote any of the reviews :) My post was about reviews these days. Of the major tech companies I'll say Apple is a lot better than most. It's a relative world, it's all a matter of degrees. US corporations are *required* by law to maximize shareholder value; it is their fiduciary responsibility. So, their agenda, to a large degree, is set in stone. Personally, I think the law is insane.
 
This is kind of the sad thing. It could be a temporary thing, but it might not. And the truth is, Apple has lost that credibility, and the assumption that while they were a company, and companies made profits, they were responsive to their community of users. That somehow, Apple was different. An underdog. As the commercial put it, the square peg in the round hole.

Now they're, the peg, the mallet, the child hitting it, the supply chain, and everything else they didn't want to be.

Did Apple just simply get to popular? Is it hubris, or folly?

Who knows, but it's a shame.
 
Yes, review bombing by the Apple-hate crowd is a difficult issue. I suppose inauthentic reviews is a better term.
Do you actually have some vested interest in refuting every post that is derogatory towards Apple? Like, no one places this much personal importance in monitoring every post and attempting to dispute it with pro-Apple attitude. I mean come on man, it becomes obvious after a while. Switch to another account and at least appear unbiased. Even some of the Linux fanboys I come across don't have GNU shoved in their mouth the way you are gagging on this company.
