Exactly. This is the sheer genius that gets Timmy the big bucks. In one fell swoop he has cut off every possible venue for negative commentary on Apple products.

Someone should start a forum like you describe. Maybe we can call it AppleRumors or iPhoneRumors. I'm sure somebody will come up with an idea. I just hope it covers more Apple products than TV+.

Why should it be the case that the only place that a review of your product cannot be found is your own website? Of course there is a myriad of websites, forums, YouTube, etc.., where one can read reviews. If your company manufactured a product, wouldn't you have the confidence in your product to allow the general public to post reviews on your website? A positive review would lead to additional sales and a negative review would give you the chance to receive feedback for future products and even respond to negative reviews.

Apparently Apple believes that allowing reviews of its products on its own website is detrimental to their business. This is something that has been in existence for a very long time and they just made the decision to pull the plug. They wouldn't have made this move if it benefiting the company.

It's more of a bulletin board/positive propaganda site than anything else..

If this were true, why would Apple shut it down?

Honestly, most of the reviews are people complaining about nothing, and I'm not just saying that because I'm an Apple "fanboy" or something, it's the same thing on the Microsoft website too.

They're like, "This device is 0.01g heavier than advertised... 1 star!!"

So aren't you smart enough, after reading such a review, to determine that maybe this is one particular review you shouldn't allow to sway your decision on whether or not to buy the product?

My guess is they are testing a new inline reviewing system

Maybe, but a company usually has something ready to go in place when they pull a feature.

I think this is more likely Apple trying to make "safe spaces" in their online store.

It must have been very hurtful for the Apple store to receive any bad reviews.

They are probably going to switch to a VERIFIED PURCHASE system. Which makes sense. People just pile on negative reviews for dongles simply because they dont like the fact they exist.
You can do that with Amazon, but not so much with products that are available for purchase in all kinds of places besides the Apple Store website. If I walk into a Best Buy and pick up an iPad, is that going to show up as "verified" somehow? How about an Apple lightning to headphone adapter I pick up at an airport?

Exactly right. So given that Apple feels this move benefits the company, what does that say about Apple, their current relationship with their customers, and the way customers perceive their products today compared to the recent past.

And the fact that Apple is seen as the villain in such a knee-jerk way shows how much they've damaged their credibility with their fanbase.

That's the story here.

Okay so admittedly, I was on the boat that chastised Apple for this decision at first. But after reading about it some more, apparently they have had a LOT of issues with fake/inaccurate/scam reviews. I wouldn't be surprised if they're just removing it temporarily only to replace it with a more trustworthy system later on. At least that's what I hope anyway...

Also, as someone who works in IT engineering, people are incredibly dumb when it comes to tech. Like they refuse to learn some common task or process that could easily solve exactly what they're trying to do, but then blame the people on the other end for it being "broken" or "unusable". Or they don't have any common sense about how to treat their devices and software, so when it inevitably breaks it's interesting how it then becomes everyone's fault but their own.

Of course many times these things are actually broken and unusable, but far too often it's, well, gross user error 🤷‍♂️

I agree 100%. I think you misinterpreted my original reply. To be clear, we are in total agreement.

I have never had an Apple cable fail on me in 10 years. Most of the failures are down to the users mis handling them.
With how widespread the failures are, it's pretty clear that they're failing under what should qualify as normal use. With the MBP, I found that it's heat that really kills the things. I run my mac at full load fairly regularly, drawing the max current through the cable. That eventually causes the insulation to turn yellow and then degrade. Even with a charger that stays at my desk 100% of the time and is suject to minimal mechanical stress.

I will be the first one to call Apple on on their BS but this may be a good thing. There was a ton of fake reviews on products that wasn’t even out yet. Hell there was 3 reviews on the brand new battery case for the 11 with people giving it 5 stars saying it’s great and now they have 3 days of full battery. Even though it was a 5 star review it was a fake review because no one could possibly have the case hours after Apple announced the case. Hopefully Apple will have a “verified” purchase like amazon and bestbuy has.
Why are there products you can review that are not out yet?

There's also no option to review tv shows and movies on the new Apple TV+ app 👎

I’ll actually defend this decision. Customers barely ever write reviews on apple’s website, and mostly it’s just to complain. When you compare the reviews to websites like amazon, Best Buy, and Target, they tend to be higher because you get follow-up emails to review your purchase and all that.

I think it should be about transparency. There is no doubt that there are thousands of (perhaps more) inaccurate reviews of products - not only on Apple's web site but the big A as well. I stopped paying attention to reviews (especially on Youtube where the reviewers are biased) about 8-9 years ago. Many YouTube reviewers seem to be more interested in gaining "thumbs up" and "likes" rather than giving transparent reviews. It's as if they say what they think people want to hear.

I don't knock Apple for removing reviews on their website. They have that right. If I see a product I think I may want - I buy it. Simple as that. I can always return it later if I dislike it. I prefer to form my own opinions and thoughts. I don't need or want a stranger to tell me if I should buy a product or walk away. It's my money not theirs. Same goes with Instagram and their "influencers." I travel the world and go where I want - not based on some young people who dressed provocatively with the Mayan ruins in the background.

I have 3 very simple rules:
If there are no reviews it must be because they were all bad
If they are all good reviews it must be because the were removing the bad reviews
Never trust a company that dishonest that they can not take ownership of their products and problems.

I agree with other posters; move to a system where only a verified purchasers can submit a review (good or bad), then the reviews will be more meaningful. Fake reviews from apple-haters or apple-lovers who have no experience with the product don't do me the consumer any good. If you want to have a hate or love-fest, take it to your social media page but leave the product reviews to people who have used the product.

Begining to lose patience with Apple. we have the right to say if we dislike a product!. but all Tim clearly thinks about is the money in his wallet.

You do. Apple doesn’t have to display it on their website.

Most companies don’t have reviews on their website.

Yes you have a right to say it, but Apple is under no obligation for you to do do, now if they where only removing negative reviews and low ratings I would have a huge problem with this, but as theybseam to have temoved evry review (and the opertubery to post new ones) , while it is not optimal I have less of a broblem with it. It is not like the webhas no sites for reviewing apps
