I just tested sending from the iPad, and the message appeared on my iPhone, but on the iPad continued saying: Sending and after a while it said "Not delivered"; however, the message was received at the other end, but the reply never reach the iPad, only the iPhone.

I haven't actually tested it since upgrading to the GM... that'll be a bummer if its disabled. I'll have to give it a try and see.

My guess as well. Along with Continuity - it's literally useless without Yosemite; so delaying it to October is a reasonably clear sign that Yosemite is coming in October.

My guess is that post-GM developer betas of iOS 8 will become available to continue to test Continuity with beta Yosemite.

Not true though. Continuity and Handoff work across iPhone and iPad. So you don't need Yosemite at all to use those features.

It makes sense to move SMS Relay to coincide with the release of Yosemite, since the two are required for that feature to function. To promote iOS as having that feature, but not have Yosemite available for the general public would only create unnecessary confusion.

Oh great! iCloud photo library is one of only two things I care about with the update :(

For what? iCloud Photo Library won't work on yosemite until Photos is out next year.

SMS continuity has worked between iPad +iPhone during the beta period.

I have iCloud Photo Library on my iOS 8 Gm iPhone anyway.

It will work on iPad + iPhone but it will need to upgrade the iCloud account. This means you will not be able to sync with your laptop since Mavericks can't support the new iCloud thing.

The way Apple organizes photos is a confusing mess anyway. So many different views for years, locations, months, days, shared, albums, yada yada yada.

That is why I haven't upgraded from 25gb iCloud. I will wait until the new iPhoto or whatever it is called to be released. That is in early 2015.

You are forgetting that an iPhone and iPad could use this feature without Yosemite. I would love to send SMS messages from my iPad.

Yeah either the continuity feature has never worked properly, or my understanding of it is incorrect. SMS messages will appear on my iPad, but if I attempt to reply it just fails to send. I first thought the intention was to let you see the message, not reply - but this seems odd since it asks if you want to use the iPhone as a relay for SMS. That wording indicates it will function either way by using the phone as a pass thru.

BTW

I am now storing all my photos in OneDrive for now. With the death of Aperture, I have switched to Lightroom for my main program.

OneDrive cloud photos look nice on the iPhone and you can store it in Raw.

Yeah, I upgraded to the new iCloud, now my iWork Apps are out of sync... Grrrr!
Is there a way to go back??? (yeah right!)

Still got iCloud Photo Library in GM here, Photo Library is labelled beta.

Also, there's iCloud Drive on the iCloud.com beta. They could add iCloud Photo Library there too.

In Yosemite beta, I'm using shared photo streams to get photos from iCloud Photo Library to iPhoto.

I was quite surprised today when my iPads were ringing. So, this feature hasn't been removed for sure.

Yes, it's supposed to work both ways. Two-way SMS, or place phone calls with your iPad or Mac, using the phone as the pass through.

I noticed that using Siri to recognize songs (shazam) has disappeared from the GM...unless it's off in a setting I'm missing.

We'll see the new iPads come with iOS 8.1 in October:

-Split Screen Multitasking (and perhaps some additional iPad specific iOS features?)
-Apple Pay
-Continuity and Handoff features

I'm convinced that given Tim Cook's cryptic comments about there being a lot more they can do with the iPad and the fact that the 6+ has essentially become an iPad mini mini, I think we'll see some iPad specific stuff launch in October with 8.1 and the new iPads.

Lol paying with an iPad Air would look so awkward but hey why not throw that feature in?! I'll take it. :p

I'm currently running the GM and I still have the icloud Photo Library option. I didn't try it in previous betas. It seems buggy but it works. Are they keeping it as beta or removing it altogether until October? I am confused.

Maybe they want to remove it until there is a way to transfer the iCloud Photo Library photos to a Mac.

I thought I saw it last night, but it then disappeared.
Also, There's no Camera Roll anymore. It's now a confusing conglomerate we need to figure out; it's most likely a simple concept, but since Apple still is adding and removing features, it's hard to figure out how it all works.

That's what I miss - camera roll!
I do like that all my photos are together on the "summary" view or whatever it is, but I'd like to see what's on my camera roll so I can delete stuff off it.
"Recently Added" doesn't specify, that I can see. And it's all over the place, not in order.

"Photo stream" has gone too (as a separate album). They're mixed in with camera roll on the summary tab.

As for iCloud photo library, I see the (beta) option but don't intend in using it, so not going to switch on to see if it works.
