Did they also lower the price for the 256 GB SSD option? It is now $700 for the 17" MBP and the 2.66Ghz 15" MBP. Wasn't it $900 before???

Not sure about the 17" but it is $825 for the 15" 2.4ghz. BUT, one thing that has change is that to upgrade the 2.4 to 4gb of Ram=$100 where it was $150.

I am not impressed with them bumping the processor speed so soon after they released the MBP. I like many other people have spend $3k + on a MacBook Pro and are now out of date from the new 2.66 MBPs

I know some of you will say not a big difference between 2.53 and 2.66, it is more of a principle when you spend $3400 on a computer in this economy (when people are loosing jobs by the second)

Nobody seems to have picked up on the tapered foot on the new iMacs, doesn't seem to be mentioned on any of the news stories. It now looks like the cinema display foot. A very subtle but successful tweak in my opinion.

First thing I noticed, and i'm not liking it so much, but it's change right

Yeah I agree. The MacBook Pro I bought in September stopped running the programs it used to run as soon as these updates were released. I wish Apple would stop innovating and progressing. It makes my needless consumeristic desire to have the latest and greatest burn a great guilt in my belly. I mean our collective desire to continue to spend beyond are means is a large reason we are in this recession and I wish Apple respected that by ensuring technology and development froze in time. It has only been a half a year and now they are releasing minor speed bumps! The nerve! I'm not used to processor speeds increasing in six months. Things move fast today. Too fast. Boo Apple.

Macbook Pro Updated by Apple

The macbook pro was just updated by apple. Now there are 2 configurations for the 15.4" model. One has 2.4ghz CPU while the other has a 2.6ghz CPU.

Now I know the 2.4ghz CPU is a Penryn core Core 2 duo. Is the 2.6ghz Penryn core too?
Also, I just bought my macbook pro. Will a 200mhz speed bump make any difference? I noticed a bit of slowness with ITunes and Pages on my macbook pro, but that's probably the HD.

EDIT: BTW, did they update ANYTHING other than the 200mhz bump?

the keyboard comes without keypad by default, when you order you can opt for the keyboard w/keypad if you want at NO COST.

At least Apple isn't charging extra for it. The smaller keyboard probably saves them some cash. But I don't like it. There are fewer function keys. And with so many Apple-specific functions already assigned to the remaining functions keys, that doesn't leave much of a way to assign my own often-used functions.

+1 similar things w/ the Time Capsule. Its only been out a year so they had the tech in 08 most likely so why should I have to pay another $300 bucks for these new features and they do this update but yet no HDD changes?

bought a Macbook Pro in Jan...

Bought a 2.53ghz MBP in Jan....

A little annoyed about the speed bumps!!!

Haha, 19 positives and 14 negatives at the moment for a speed bump for free and a new keyboard option - what a ratio ... C'mon guys, I can understand disappointment about the marginal iMac update, but enough is enough ... ;)

Time to upgrade!

Looks like the Mac Pro Gigahertz I bought in 1999 will get replaced. 8 core machine on the way! I wonder how much of an improvement I will see in TetrUSS.

That's what u get for buying Rev A product... same thing happened when MBP replaced the PBG4: they bumped processor a few months later and then within 6 months replaced Core Duo with Core 2 Duo.

I know what we should do! Let's not improve the products so you can always have the latest-and-greatest! Sound like a good idea?

People are bitter that their 2.8 is no longer the newest toy. I bought the 2.8, and I can assure you there will be little difference in real world use between 2.8 and 2.93. C'mon.

OK, now this sucks. I bought a MacBook 2 weeks ago and would've paid an extra 500€ to try the 256GB SSD, but it wasn't available.

I also got screwed on the lack of 8GB RAM on my 20" iMac.

Thanks fully they didn't send 2 of the older time capsules. But I wonder how long I'll have to wait for the new ones

So, it looks like only the processor speed was affected (and an SSD offering as well). So, will that processor speed make a difference?

I noticed that OSX is a little bit sluggish compared to Vista.

I sold my wireless keyboard, it was too small for my liking. I think the biggest thing isn't the lack of the numeric pad, it's the small direcional pad.

You'd think the world has ended the way some owners are protesting lol. So Apple... The average user wants you to constantly improve, yet not at the same time :p

I kinda feel that after all the updates/additions to the MBP line during the lifetime of my unibody.

Nice little update, but I think I'll wait until Apple puts out a Nehalem MBP, if not later. My current Penryn MBP is running fine for what I need.

You and I are in the same boat. My next MBP will be Nehalem-based.
