No. It's from Mighty Mouse the cartoon, which is apparently owned by CBS. :D

Heh. Apple weren't first to everything then. :D

In the UK store they're describing the new keyboard without the numberpad as
"Apple Keyboard with numeric keypad". Wonder how long before someone spots that.

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB869?mco=NDE4Mzg5NA

The apple sales lady confirmed this as a bug, and that everyone who orders this paradox in a box will recieve one without a NumPad. I ordered two :p

Now if only they'd do the opposite and offer a WIRELESS keyboard WITH the number pad. That's what I've wanted from the get go. What a stupid idea to not include it. I use the number pad regularly, and i'd love to have a free USB port...but the only way to get the number pad is to go wired. Way to go, Apple....

So, it looks like only the processor speed was affected (and an SSD offering as well). So, will that processor speed make a difference?

I noticed that OSX is a little bit sluggish compared to Vista.

From the linked article: The change is unlikely to be noticed in day to day operation but is a distinct modification from the original release.

To answer your question, no.

That's what u get for buying Rev A product... same thing happened when MBP replaced the PBG4: they bumped processor a few months later and then within 6 months replaced Core Duo with Core 2 Duo.

Darn, I shouldn't have bought my Macintosh LC in 1991. I could've waited and gotten a new MBP today. [/sarcasm]

Well, that's technology for you. It keeps getting faster. While it's stupid IMO to ship a computer and then update a month later. But 6 months I can understand. Only other qualm I have right now is how Apple keeps the pricing of its computers the same until it releases updates 6+ months later. Ever heard of price drops? But then Apple wouldn't wouldn't make as much money on each computer and we wouldn't want it make $5.2 billion instead of $5.3 billion (or whatever, you get my point).

I would imagine soon - c'mon, they were busy releasing Aluminum laptops and updating the desktops!

I would say by Fall...

Interestingly enough, on the orders page, since they are the same price, you can order the one with the numeric keypad for no extra charge....

The thing is, I have become very accustomed to my :apple: wireless keyboard because it is the same layout as my Macbook. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it is wireless, and therefore has no USB. It is always sitting right in front of a cinema display anyways.

I think the Apple designers were thinking the same thing.

Damnit, I was hoping for the other way around; I want the wireless keyboard with keypad, the stupidly small laptop-style wireless keyboard is no good for sitting in your lap.

Wow... I'm constantly amazed at how some small fraction of people will be able to mark any news as negative. But a slight speed bump and a new keyboard option gets more negatives than positives?

Lighten up, people. If you really want to freak out, just imagine: In a couple years, your MBP will be as far behind as mine.

Edit: And the SSD option, to boot....

Why carn't someone tell Apple that they need a wireless keyboard WITH a number pad... in the new style. There is no point of a slim line version of this keyboard that's wired. IMHO.

Is anyone else thinking this ?

Yes! How about a wireless version WITH a numeric pad. So many pro-apps have commands whose keyboard shortcuts are ONLY available on the numeric keypad. Have to say that IMHO, Apple's dropping the ball here!

i'm just mad i bought a slightly used pro with 2.53 and it has not even arrived yet :p bad timing on my part. value just dropped.

that keyboard is still hatefull...

the 250 SSD is nice :)

Nice yes, but fast ? if it is a Toshiba forget it...may be a so so Samsung ? how to be sure Apple won't say of course...
Did you notice the price of the 128SSD has dropped ? but not in the MBAir, Seems that fat cow is still giving good milk to Apple > Price for fashion may be.

I don't like the new wired keyboard. One reason I didn't opt for the wireless version is no Numeric Keypad. I like the regular keyboard.

oh well, no extra charge for it...though not nice to be the default.

as long as they don't get rid of the numeric keypad completely i guess it's ok. i use mine alot.

And I never use it at all.

I guess that why they now make one with and one without. I'll be going for this new little one.

For some reason I'm just not liking the keyboard.
If I get a new iMac with that keyboard and I buy it standard at the Apple Store I'll probably just use my current wired Apple keyboard.
Although, I'm probably going to end up getting the Mac mini.

Coming from an Apple specialist, I really don't like that they changed the standard option to min-keyboard, and made the regular numeric keyboard a BTO option. This is a needless change, and will make keeping the right iMacs in inventory (aka having to keep a BTO just to have a normal keyboard to offer people) much more of a pain.

Make the bluetooth one with a number pad, and forget this thing.

Why would they do this? This means you can't walk into an Apple store and get the full numeric keyboard with your iMac, right? If I understand it, you'll have to BTO your computer to get the full keyboard...hence making it more difficult to return, since you can't return web BTO orders to the Apple stores.

I'm just kind of disappointed how they upgraded the MBP with from 2.83 to 2.93 GHz. It's not much of a difference but I still would like that small bump of upgrade.

This keyboard sucks

They already had a keyboard with the same key arrangement - around 1998-99 when the first iMacs came out. People hated the small directional keys and cramped function keys. Everybody I knew in professional environment have replaced those keyboards with the "pro" versions with full sized keys. The keyboard was pulled off the market quite quickly by that day's standards. Why they have to repeat their mistakes is beyond me.

^^^It's an optional keyboard. You still have the option of the larger keyboard with numeric pad.

I understand that people wanted a bluetooth version of the larger keyboard, and I see nothing wrong with having a desire, or expectation, for something like that.

However, I don't understand why people are upset at having a free option with regards to their keyboard. Perhaps it's because the smaller keyboard is standard now. Nobody has confirmed that you can't walk out of the store with an iMac with full-sized keyboard. Regardless, it's better to have options, isn't it?

Personally, I'd rather have the smaller keyboard.

Hear that? That's the sound of the world's smallest violin, playing a really sad song for you.

If you need a shoulder to cry on.....

Now all they need to do is to make the full-sized keyboard available in a Bluetooth flavor
No kidding! When I worked at an Apple store, I had countless iMac customers ask about the wireless keyboard/mouse option, but they quickly went "never mind" when they saw what the keyboard looked like. People who are buying desktop computers don't want a laptop keyboard.
