Can someone please explain the in store diagnostic test? Is there a piece of test equipment involved or does an employee attempt to hear themselves? I have a very faint crackling noise in one bud that is present when running. Thanks!
Yes, to the back room experience. However, in my experience the room was only a few feet away with no door...so I could hear a series of audio tests being run. I don't know exactly what hardware and/or process - but I know it's not just a tech making a judgement call. Mine were replaced a week ago...good luck!

Well I'll be stopping by the authorized service provider tomorrow. Mine have been doing that static on the left AirPods for about a month or more but I thought I was just screwed and had to deal with it or buy new set. Awesome!

Yep had this issue too, worked fine one day then a week or two later, crackling and noticeable audio feedback when attempting to use it (Only in one ear).

Took it to Apple, both earbuds failed the test and they replaced both earbuds. This was before this program was announced and they swapped it under my AppleCare Plus warranty.

No local Apple Store here and the Apple rep said I would have to put a $100 hold on my card for the left ear bud and as bad as carriers were last year I didn't want to risk it getting lost and get charged , the Apple guy said hey if you got a Best Buy they can send them and then you won't have to put the $100 hold on your card

I had both mine replace. Made an appt at Best Buy, a day before my appt the right started crackling. Best Buy Geek Squad put them in some device to test and sent them off and a few days later got a call to come pick up my replacements.

I got my first pair in November 2019 and had them replaced in April of this year for this issue. I waited as long as it was bearable since it didn't seem to bother me unless they were in one of the two active modes - "cancelation or transparency" Left failed first and right failed about a month later. The replacement pair have been flawless. 🤞🏻

If you do it over the phone they will give you the choice of waiting for a shipping box that you can send back to them with the AirPods and they will then send you back a replacement or pay a deposit (hold on card) and they will send you the replacement with a return box that you can send the bad one back in. I did mine this way and it was 3 day-turn around for the whole process including the release on my card. They used FedEx as the carrier and it seems to be express overnight (morning delivery) both ways and the hold on my card was released within moments of them receiving my package.

I just had both of my AirPods Pro replaced after failing Apple's audio tests. At first, I thought I was crazy and it was just the noises the AirPods make going in and out of my ears, but soon realized the noise occurred by just moving my head around.
Same here!! Took me a moment to even say, "Hey, this isn't right".

This seems to be a component that failed in the original and continues to fail in the replacement units. I wonder what it is that they haven’t been able to engineer a better replacement?

I had both of mine replaced last summer, so far, they are still working. I am hoping that Apple brings out a new line early next year. In the meantime, I hope these hang on.

Literally just got mine replaced a couple days ago. The anc wasn’t working as good and heard some static noises every so often.
After I got the new ones wow it’s night and day difference. So glad I went in to get them replaced.

Advice. Request replacement in store! I had my AirPods replaced last December over via phone support and I was charged for replacements. It took nearly 2 months battling with credit card company and Apple to issue a refund. When I called Apple I showed them the article from MacRumors and they had no clue about this issue. It was a pain, for real!

I’ve had my AirPods Pro replaced 3 times so far. I like them when they work but now I always feel uneasy about them working as expected. Who knows if this is a design flaw or just a manufacturing defect that’s truly been corrected. The fact the repair period has been extended makes me think this is going to be an ongoing issue for a while.

I had my pros replaced last year before the repair program and now they're cracking again when the noise modes are enabled. Do we know if the problem is hardware or software related?

Getting mine replaced as we speak. Funny thing was they sent me some last week but they were physically damaged. The audio though was much improved on the ones I had which makes me think my original ones were never that great out of the box. Good that they are resolving. My beats pro still don’t charge the right earphone every second time I put them back the case. Very annoying.

i got mine replaced 6 months ago. now im noticing that the noise cancelling is terrible....
I had mine replaced in September of last year for this very issue, and I recently started noticing that the noise canceleing isn't working well anymore.

Today the crackle came back.

I'm glad this extension exists.

…mine squealing after removing from my ears, high pitched noise. There must be a component in the app that deteriorates over time thus crackling etc happens

Good. I’ve replaced two pairs of Air Pods due to the crackling issue.

My right one distorts at a volume of 80% if not in normal mode. Due to lock down I had to send it away as the stores are closed. Waiting for it to come back now.

What do you do if you bought after Oct-20 and its exhibiting this? Mine are starting to crackle (left ear only) and thought id be up for a new pair.

My AirPods Pro was replaced last year even when the Apple staff couldn't exactly replicate the issue. I'm very happy about that. Top notch after-sale service.

It took 2 support tickets to fix mine. The replaced the left one and the case in the first ticket, and the right one in the second ticket.
