The white macbook lives! With firewire, thats cool. What about mini dvi?

No upgrades yet on the uk store... if they can upgrade the macbook so silently/easily, why not the mac mini?

It figures. My 2.1 refurb is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I guess for what I plan on using it for it's not that big a deal. $150 more to get this new revision, I think I'll stick with what I bought.

It stings a little, but it happens all the time. Not as bad as when they put a $2000 rebate on my car 2 weeks AFTER I bought it.

The main thing for me is that the unibody 2.0GHz processor (and the new one they are using in this white macbook) is much cooler than the older generation.

Isn't the Alu MB also significantly lighter?

Still, the white MB is looking pretty good!

the UK version is 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo with 1GB RAM and GMA graphics?

I guess they've not updated yet

unless this is going to be one of those USA only type deals while stocks last

quite strange to have even updated it at all? Maybe they're just using up stored parts that are taking up space.

That's right! and $300 less also gets you a more variety of expansion choices. Like FW400 :D

But you also miss out on the Glass trackpad.. This thing is a beauty once you get used to it. I find myself using it on my home desk when I have a full mice/keyboard set... haha.

Now the MB vs. MBAir vs. Alu MB choice becomes even tougher than it was...

But $300 buys lots of nice things that make me shrug off things like that ;)

Except here in Canada, it's $1150 :(

Wow - good move

This also shows that they're not getting rid of the WhiteBook anytime soon.

This has actually made the little laptop more of a viable option again in the UK.

CPU speed is not the only variable that determines speed. Frontside Bus & CPU Speed is what to look at. The frontside went up considerable and the CPU only went down a tenth. It will be much faster.

is it poss that i send in my whitebook i got just a few days before the alum were introduced and get the 9400m gpu installed and maybe pay abit more?

indeed this may be a good sine for the mini
A very good sine indeed! :D

I was kind of upset a few minutes ago(really pissed actually) because I had hoped it would be killed completely and the two aluminums' prices dropped, probably added another option. But now I realize this means Apple just wants to finish off the stock of plastic cases/non LED displays and all that. I guess an update can still be a month or two away(aka Fare well, whitey!)

At the October'08 event, they show a plastic MacBook and they it's their best-seller... I personally took it as meaning people preferred plastic to metal as is my case. Check out the video see how you interpret it. It's at 38:14.

So with the new graphics cards is it possible to play guitar hero for the mac on the white MB?

USB sucks for external drives.

Firewire 400 is worth over $100.

The Unibody is looking expensive now.
Yes it is!

If I were to get a MacBook today, it would be the White one.

No reason to get the FW crippled Unibody MacBook now.

IMHO, Apple should capitalize on the state of the economy and say during March or April lower the White MB to around $800. Then add FW to the Unibody MB and drop the price to $1100.

Both of these moves would spur sales. It's better to keep up your volume and cut the price than to lower volume and retain price in hard times.

That would give Apple the following:

Air --> MBA 13

Consumer --> White MB

Pro --> Unibody 13, 15 and 17

Keeps it simple and seems like a win-win to me.

I believe the interpretation should be that statistically the macbook (pre 14.10) was the best selling mac, irrespective of consumer material preference.
