Where's my redesigned iTunes server nas icloud drive? Do we really have to turn on our macs to use our apples tvs?

Seriously no Thunderbolt?

Why wouldn't they bring Thuderbolt to TC? They're a perfect fit, how long will it be before we can actually use those ports?

Oke just some random idea

We know Apple is waiting with releasing the new Mini and Pro and Airs..
This is probably due to Lion and a bit of re-design.

What if they where hoping to wait with the TimeCapsule too, but they ran out of HDD's.. They bought enough until last week... but due to the waiting they just ran out.

It could be Apple will release a redesigned TC in a couple of weeks, and these today new ones wont even ship.

Its a long shot.. but I cant believe this is it. Not adding a TB port, Plastic, No new real features.. its just weird.

Apple really disappoints this time around, they could have made the TimeCapsule into such a great device .. But no.

The first thing I thought of after the release of iCloud was for Apple to release a refresh version of TimeCapsule with included automatic synchronisation towards iCloud. That would make it to a way more secure device, instead they keep going with a single hard drive solution making it all your data going down the drain if it dies.

Secondly there is no added Thunderbolt functionality? Oh my, when even Apple don't care about bringing forth Thunderbolt then whom will? Seems rather odd doesn't it? A Thunderbolt port would make a full system TimeMachine backup done by no time instead we are forced to use USB2.0 or stick with wireless?

One the other hand the Apple site doesn't really tell us anything about the hardware. So there might be Apple A5 hardware under the hood making it a tad bit better performing. But we can't really be sure until iFixit rips them apart and show us what's under the hood. I guess both TimeCapsule and AirPort Extreme now features the same 3x3 Broadcom Wireless NIC as the MacBook Pro 2011 models for better 450mbps support?

The price is crazy. You can get with 2/3 of the money a full home NAS that supports Time Machine, DLNA, has itune server, bittorrent/ed2k service, remote access, IP camera support and dozen more features with 4 TB storage (or 2TB in raid1) with ~275 GBP:

Synology DS211J - 155 GBP

2 x Samsung 2TB HDD - 60 GBP

You can use the rest 125 GBP for a wireless router or beer :)

TC have not been shipping from the UK store for a while. It did say ships in 2-3 weeks but last week it dropped to 1-2 weeks. Now we have no mention of the new TC and the old ones have now been removed from sale.

I think that white box may have a few hidden tricks inside....

I've noticed slight model number differences between the US (MD031LL/A) and Canadian (MD031AM/A) versions. There's no real difference between the two, correct?

T H I S,

im tired of having to map the Time capsule via my laptop and streaming files that way...

media streaming has really being a huge factor in my home entertainment area.. now that i buy itunes movies instead of blu ray discs..

im going to go ahead and build a Sandy Bridge HTPC and have it running whenever i say so, and i can simply configure itunes to run at start up... this could all be avoided if they created a 3/+ TB mac mini

I ordered the new airport extreme since my last router isn’t working out for me.

Here is what it showed in the order acknowledgment email:

So, it is new.

You mentioned 2x an internel HD

Yes, the NAS i linked uses internal 3.5" HDDs.

And very good it is too. I have the DS201j and it performs admirably (I have 2x2TB in RAID-1 in mine). That difference in price between the DS211J and 2x2TB drives and the 3TB Time Capsule would almost get you an AEBS to hook it up to as well.

The Synology is a nice device, however it doesn't have any Wifi - dual band or not - and is not a router. Plus it'll be more noisy than a Time Capsule, just look at the fan outlet on the back.

If your needs match what Time Capsule offers then it's a very neat and not that overpriced package at all.

I think you can get a wifi router for 125GBP :)

I have the DS210j and the DS411j and they are very silent - as silent as my 2.4 i5 MBP idling to give a comparison.

Think you'll find that good (stable) dual band wireless routers start selling at around £80, probably a lot more for those with 6 channels like this one. So that's not very different at all. You get a much neater package this way.

As for noise just by having two drives your solution is already noisier than Apple's, especially with the samsung drive eek. I have one of those on a modded Sky box.

Somebody , probably a whole division has screwed up big time. To upgrade an external storage device and omit Thunderbolt is laughable incompetence.

I'm speechless.

They should fire all their worthless dumb butts

i've been holding out on getting an external drive until one comes out with thunderbolt. guess i'll be holding out even longer. if apple isn't even putting it to use why should other companies?? wifi is great for small updates but i want the thunderbolt option for larger backups and restores. any word on if/when other companies will be selling thunderbolt enabled hard drives? i know lacie has one that says it will be out in summer but there is no price and it only goes up to 1tb

Trying to decide if I should order online today or wait for them to be shipped to the store, if they haven't been already. I don't know how much tax they charge online.

Regardless, kind of a lackluster update. It will be interesting to see if a firmware update will be new features after Lion or iOS 5 comes out.

But now you have 3 seperate devices taking up space, not to mention the usb wires connected the Hard Drives as well as the router connections.

Id pick the clean look along with less hassle of the Time Capsule any day.

The HDDs go inside the NAS, they are not connected via USB. The USB port is there if you want to connect an external USB disk/flash drive for convenience (like getting a flash driver from a friend / work to move some files). So it's one device.
Also, regarding the extra devices, i believe everyone has a router either a separate one or included in their modems. It's the same number of devices, with less money, giving you more options and functions than just a hard disk attached to a wifi. I really don't understand why someone will limit his options and pay more money for a TC than a much more useful and value for money NAS solution.

Apple needs to just get out of the wireless router business and leave it to Cisco and Netgear. At one point, the Apple products were ground breaking, but these days they are a total joke compared to what the competition offers. I won't even begin, but for starters, let's have 4 gigabit ports + 1 WAN port, instead of the 3+1 that Apple is offering?

Second, the Apple products are lacking enhanced functionality such as bandwidth monitoring/metering, QOS, etc...

Plus, the USB port on the Airports is NOTORIOUSLY SLOWER then MOLASSES...

And Apple continues to charge a premium for their sub standard product. No thanks.

Other than storage space what is the difference between a first generation TC and this new one?
