Yes/No.

I think it may be a hardware upgrade that gives it extra capacity for future software upgrades.

It has to have been updated.

- There are currently "no reviews" of the AEBS. Means it's a new model with no reviews yet.

- The price has dropped in the education store.

- FCC filing.

Something has changed internally. Someone suggested six antennae rather than three. Maybe that's it, or maybe there's more.

I'm really very curious to know this....A new one of these Airport or Time Capsules coupled with one of the new MBPs or iMacs with triple antenna Wifi should make for some really blazing fast intra-network speeds, and would be worth the upgrade for me.

I'll wait to see what iFixit finds out. I'm thinking that we'll find a small 16G "SSD" in the Express, and an A4/A5 in all of them (better to load code to for local caching of software updates for iPad/Pod/Mac, etc.). My 2 cents, that's all. We'll see when it starts shipping, but I wouldn't release it with a lot of fanfare if the code (and iCloud) aren't fully baked as yet. May as well be a pleasant surprise when the big announcement comes out.

The part numbers have changed when you add the Airport Extreme to your basket.

The new part number is the one that was reported earlier today "MD031LL/A" and I believe it was was MC340LL/A

Strange that no details of the update have been put on the UK store/ wifi page

My point was that it might be a silent update with no visible changes until a future software update, perhaps related to iCloud or some Lion update to Time Machine.

I just phoned Apple Store in my area, they don't have the new AEBS... They don't know when they'll be getting it...

I agree, the fact you can set up a new airport device in iOS5 a new Aiport Utility and now a new device, will be interesting to see whats inside and if anything new shows up in beta2

New Airport Extreme's too, woo!

New specs, might have to finally pony up for one of those. Probably leaning the TC route, the Extreme is a bit much for just a router.

I thought the AEBS used to be $199 in Canada ($179 w/ education pricing). So is this a price drop? Or am I just misremembering?

Price for AEBS did indeed drop from $199 Cdn to $179 Cdn, making it same price as US inline with strong Cdn dollar.

Canadian educational price drop reflected that as well.

There’s nothing new as far as we know. We have to wait for iFixit to confirm what’s new.

This has been a strange “silent” update from Apple. I haven’t seen such as vague update like this from Apple in a long time.

I would think it would have Thunderbolt - would be a good feature when transferring, retrieving backups, daisy chaining more peripherals (HD,printers) :/ faster than wifi, ethernet, usb 2.0

NOt much point to TB when it is a wireless backup device.

Time Machine backups are only slow the first time. The incremental backups are quite fast, even when done over wireless.

We understand you don't value your data that much. Many of us value our data more than our hardware. Hardware can be replaced. Lost data can not.

WE? Are you a siamese twin or something?

How did you get from it not being difficult for me to hook up an external drive and not wanting/needing TM to run every hour to me not valuing data?

Then being preachy on top of it. YOu can replace hardware not data. Blah Blah blah. I'm the choir bud.

I just spoke with the Live Chat people on the Apple website and the only thing that changed with the AEBS is the part number. Thats all she said.

Agreed No Audio is a big disappointment

Awww Apple, still no audio out port for Airplay? I would snatch one up if there was...

TimeCapsule and Extreme base station would be nearly ideal entertainment center routers if they had audio out.

I wish someone would develop a hack for this as Apple does not seem interested in adding the $5.00 subsystem to make it happen.

In the Canadian Store Im seeing Proce for Extreme at 179.99 (159.99 with education pricing.

Less than 200$ with tax sounds good to me :)

not going to lie, I'm a little miffed. I ordered my new time capsule exactly 30 days ago. Now on hold with apple to see if they will exchange it

Update: they did. I love apple customer service. 14 day return policy but they still let me...

I have a pending order coming Thursday - including my iMac, ACD 27 and a TimeCapsule 2 TB.

I paid the same price as the current 3 Tb cost. I want the 3 TB version of course - hope Apple will return it with no hazzle and give me the new larger version. I need it for my Sonos system and 1.2 TB apple lossless music archive (Sonos can't read the files hidden in the TimeMachine backups)......

Do you guys think this was a supply chain timing error?

I wonder if Apple was assuming the old TC and AEBS's would last until July so they could release the new ones with Lion and tout some new auto-update features and/or A4/A5 processor? Instead, they're left bone dry out of the older models and the decided rather than be out of TC's and AEBS's all together for at least a month, they just quietly rolled them out.

It just seems very odd that they'd release new part numbers with no discernable difference.

That doesn't make sense. Something had to change. I guess we will find out soon enough

It could be just a case of new firmware allowing it work better with newer features yet to be announced. The fact that these devices can be now set up without a computer, using a device on iOS5 means that other things could well be hidden.
