Are they finally putting "server-grade" hard drives in these things?

The only thing apparently upgraded in the Time Capsule is the capacity.

Given that the specs of the TC and AEBS have pretty much been comparable (save for the TC's HD), what on Earth can be new in the AEBS?

I have a few time capsules and would like the extra storage offered by the 3 TB model.

I've run the one at home for almost 3 years (2nd Gen 1 GB) without problems and the two at the office for a year without problems (3rd Gen 2 GB).

Seems durable to me.

However, they are quite loud and it would be nice if Apple would go with a quieter HDD (sometimes the whirring and clicking drives me nuts!!!!!!)

LOL - link from the announcement page takes you to store with only 1 and 2 TB available.

Ninja'd - see above

How long has it been since they used a white plastic casing? Besides the Macbook...

I think white plastic casing was standard in their products like 6 years ago.

I don't really want by "base station" surrounded in aluminum ... thank you very much. I think the MacMini looks like crap with the aluminum/plastic combo.

However, the black molded plastic of the Apple TV could be quite nice!

What's the rule of thumb for the size od TM disc you need?
Is it jus tthe size of your hard disc, or the size * 2?

I don't know what i realistically need to get...

Aluminum isn't very good at letting radio waves pass through, which means it would be a terrible choice of material to build a wireless router.

The speed of the WiFi using three antennas now on wireless n 450mbps, of course no one will get these speeds so in other words its rubbish.

The only update that I would have liked to have seen would have been the inclusion of AirTunes in the APE and TC. With my current home set up it would be a nice feature so I could get rid of my AirPort Express in the living room and relocate it to an outer bedroom.

I think it ended up that they did turn out to be server grade, after a lot of people said they weren't. Not sure. There were some definition issues.

Anyway, the quality of the components was never the issue. Somebody who makes these decisions decided that they were too noisy and so cut down the fan action which led to overheating and failure.

Mine is repaired and the fan is modified. It is louder, but vastly cooler. I could always put in a bigger hard drive.

I am feeling conflicted. I am glad there is nothing new about the TC that would require me to upgrade and drop $300. However, I am also a little sad that I don't get to buy any new Apple kit this week :(
