First, why are you insulting people ?

Second, 1449 € = 1558 $ US, so you are telling me that you have 259 $ of taxes, around 20%, in the US ?

1$ = 0,930102776€

1299$ = 1 208,20351€

Add 19% VAT (MWSt.)
1 208,20351€ * 1,19 = 1.437,7621769€

That's 11,24€ difference, or 0,8%. And import duties are not included.

Overseas the prices typically include about 20% VAT. In the U.S. they do not include 8% sales tax which must be paid in most states. For folks complaining, please put those numbers in and make your argument.

I don't see any insults. You should pay attention to what he said though about thinking before opening one's mouth. It was good advice.

Thanks Seth. Why don't you also add that in the U.S. one would have to pay 8% on the $1,299 price?
If the price difference is so high, then folks will continue to grab the items when they come and visit as tourists. For some countries that still makes sense. But with the strong U.S. dollar, I suspect we will see less of that. And being a foreigner does not exempt you from paying sales tax here in the U.S.

Ok, but gnasher729 was talking about US, so I just want to know the current taxes in the US, in order to compare the US price with the french one.

I'm sure they are lower.
In Europe we still pay more for Apple products than US customers

Because saying "My god, is your educational system going down in the last twenty years" is not insulting people ?

I doubt those Dick Smith and JB discount sales will be getting this new lot below the former prices. Pity. :(

I'm not buying.... actually want to get rid of it all.

Same here and POS like Yosemite are only helping that decision. I'm not particularly excited about buying a $3000k iPad Pro.

I understand phones are their bread and butter and don't begrudge them that, but on weekends I'm a creative pro (the same cats that kept them alive in the 90's) and well…they don't cater to me anymore.

Please don't spoil this "discussion" with facts.

:p

Don't get me wrong: I'm the Canadian author of this article and would absolutely love if Apple retained the same prices regardless of the U.S. dollar conversion rate. However, it seems unfair to suggest Apple is evil for increasing prices when this is simply a matter of currency fluctuations that are outside of its control. The company was generous by leaving the previous prices untouched for so long as the U.S. dollar continued to strengthen. If and when the U.S. dollar becomes weaker again, the international prices will go back down again as happened in July 2011.

That's it. The prices Apple raised in my country is just way over the top.

Been stuck in Apple ecosystem long enough to realize how greedy this company has gotten. Comparing both their offering against competitors, it just doesn't make sense to stick with Apple anymore.
Take for example:
- iTunes Match (paid subscription) vs Google Music (50gb free storage)
- iCloud (5gb) vs rest of competition (>5GB, not to mention One drive recent promotional campaign that boost my storage to 200gb)
- Cheapest app pricing is 0.99 USD, Google Play 0.01 USD (Note app only goes free in Apple ecosystem or lowest pricing is 0.99)
- Free movie and music from AppStore (Home Alone, some random iTunes Festival music), Google Play (Pacific Rim, Fast and Furious, ColdPlay latest album, tons more)
- Amazon AppStore with tons of quality free apps on limited time

Don't need to start about the hardware debate about the 1GB ram and stuff on iOS devices.

I used to love Apple, thinking their hardware is fantastic but now I'm thinking competitors have caught up and its time to save up money and ditch the ship.

Every single Apple Laptop went up by $200 in Australia sadly :(

Apple should start paying its proper income tax here if it wants to jack up prices (although I do acknowledge prices are somewhat dependent on the exchange rate). The non Retina Macbook went up to $1549 - which is well above the currency conversion and our GST... not overly fair.

As for the income tax, I don't know. They should, but no major US multinational does, in the US or anywhere else.

But the price rises are in lieu of losing money. The US $ has risen relative to other currencies. They're just maintaining.
